Horsey Mere: A chilling Norfolk Broads crime thriller (DI Tanner Norfolk Broads Murder Mystery Series Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 9,320 ratings

A CHILLING NORFOLK BROADS CRIME THRILLER!
"Beautifully written, brutally wrenching, this is David Blake's best work so far."
Samantha, Amazon.co.uk

The remains of a 17th Century witch, an MP found hanging above a five-pointed star, and three girls with powers beyond anyone's control.

As DI Tanner and DS Evans endeavour to make plans for their big day, the chance discovery of Norfolk's last known witch, tried and hanged by Norfolk’s infamous Witchfinder General, sparks a chain of the most horrific events, none of which Tanner seems able to stop.

Set within the mysterious beauty of the Norfolk Broads, this fast-paced British detective series is a dark cozy Norfolk murder mystery with a slice of humour and a touch of romance, one that will have you guessing until the very end, when the last shocking twist is finally revealed.

Horsey Mere is a totally addictive gripping crime thriller, the fifth in a chilling series of serial killer books, ones which will rapidly convert followers of L J Ross, Faith Martin, Joy Ellis, Damien Boyd, J M Dalgliesh, and Elly Griffiths into David Blake devotees.

I have read all of David Blake’s DI John Tanner books and enjoyed every one of them. I wasn’t a big fan of his previous book, Three Rivers, but I am so glad that I continued with the series.
Horsey Mere is one of the best crime books that I have read, it had so many things going on at the same time and then in the end, they all tie up.
It was also heart wrenching, emotional and sad and yes, the ‘twist’ was a shock.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series to see what life brings to DI Tanner and company.
    Thank you David Blake.

Why? Because I hate it when the author kills off one of the main characters. The plot was a good one by and large, and kept you guessing. I didn't see the outcome of the first murder, or the several that followed, having the resolution they had. And I didn't like the fact that the author didn't resolve the issue of a vicious xenophobic monster running for MP. Maybe it's not fair to expect an author to anticipate how each reader will respond?

Without giving readers a spoiler alert, I actually got so into this book that I cried! I tend to picture the characters in a really good book, and if one dies, it's like one of my friends died. True book lovers will understand. Read this series, but start with book one! You won't be disappointed.

If you think you know how the plot is going, think again. Every loose end has a surprising destination, but they all converge at a complex finale to a hard to put down story. We'll done.

Dialog often trite and unbelievable. Good story line & plot, but I often found myself rolling my eyes at the dialogue. No way conversation between police & suspects or public would proceed the way they do in the story- I guess since it's considered a 'cosy' mystery the author can get away with it

This is one of the most horrifying stories I have ever read. I would not recommend it to anyone. Bad story, David Blake.

Last nigh I stumbled upon this latest installment of Tanner & Evans pursuit of justice. Thrilled to spend another evening in their company, I devoured the book in one sitting. The discovery of an ancient witch’s grave leads to a series of grizzly deaths. The possible suspects are legion, but in the end the trail of death leads somewhere no one could foresee. A perfect illustration that for every choice there is a consequence because nothing happens in a vacuum!

Very fine writing. Characters that you care about. Characters you dislike. These are the sort of books that keep you looking for the next one in the series. Thank you Mr Blake.

I have been a fan of David’s work for a while now. I haven’t quite caught up with everything that he has written but I am getting there. I particularly love the series which features Detective Inspector Tanner and Detective Sergeant Evans. ‘Horsey Mere’ is the fifth book in the series and it is another corker from David Blake. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it but more about that in a bit.
It took me no time at all to get into ‘Horsey Mere’. In fact the synopsis was enough to grab my attention and the story within the covers sealed the deal as it were. As soon as I started to read the book I knew that I was going to be in for a treat and that I would find it impossible to put the book down for any length of time. I was right on both counts. I read ‘Horsey Mere’ in one long reading binge. I became so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and I managed to cut out all other distractions so that I could focus solely on the book and the characters. ‘Horsey Mere’ was one of those books that I was desperate to finish because I needed to know how the story concluded but I was enjoying the author’s writing style, the story and the characters so much that I just didn’t want the book to end. I found ‘Horsey Mere’ to be an unputdownable and gripping read, which kept me guessing and kept me on the edge of my seat.
‘Horsey Mere’ is extremely well written but then I have thought that to be true of David’s work in general. He certainly knows how to grab your attention from the start and draw you into what proves to be a compelling read. Reading ‘Horsey Mere’ felt like being on a scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. I felt as though I was part of the story and that’s thanks to David’s very vivid and realistic storytelling.
In short I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Horsey Mere’ and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of David’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Another brilliant read. Love this collection about a not so perfect DI Tanner. It makes him real. I enjoy thee police procedures but I love getting to know the hero and heroin of your books even more. A perfect blend of both. Thank you.

I like this author's style of writing realistic police drama. The characters are not super-beings. They are just ordinary people with everyday foibles like the rest of us. This is a good read and if you like your police drama credible and your characters professional but human, you will enjoy this book.
