Hot Read: The Originals (Seattle Steelheads Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 118 ratings

The clock’s ticking down, and the hearts of Estelle Harris and Steelheads quarterback Brett Gunnels are about to enter crunch time.

Supposedly undersized for the NFL, quarterback Brett Gunnels went off to do a stint in the US Army right out of high school. Returning damaged yet stronger—and more determined than ever to prove himself—he was the last pick in the draft. Mr. Irrelevant, they called him. But he’s a starter and a winner, no matter his past few years as a backup. Now he’s going to prove it.

Estelle Harris is engaged to a man she doesn’t love, working in the wrong job, and fooling everyone including herself in the process. Her love of animals is the only thing that gives her purpose. As she shares that love with the Steelheads’ reclusive quarterback, and much, much more, it’s only a matter of time until their friendship turns that final, hot corner. There’ll be no going back. True love is like football. It’s not always how long you have the ball. It’s what you do when you get it.

USA Today bestselling author Jami Davenport writes sexy contemporary, new adult, and sports romances, including Gone Missing, Seattle Sockeyes, The Scoring Series, and the Portland Icehawks.

Jami lives on a small farm near Puget Sound with her Army Ranger-turned-plumber husband, a Newfoundland drool monster, and two demanding tabby cats.

Jami worked in IT for years and is also a former high school business teacher but recently achieved a life-long dream of being a full-time author. A horse lover since birth, Jami showed dressage horses for over thirty years. Now she gardens and goes glamping, along with other travelling adventures. She's a lifetime Seahawks and Mariners fan, a proud season ticket holder for the Seattle Kraken, and still misses her SuperSonics. An avid boater, Jami has spent countless hours in the San Juan Islands, a common setting in her books. In her opinion, it's the most beautiful place on earth.

Chase your dreams and capture them with your heart!
Two people fighting to find the place in this world. Both trying to prove to themselves and the nay sayers that they are capable of and can be what they dream of. For Brett it is proving he is an NFL Quarter back capable of making to the super bowl. For Estie it is that she can let go of her grip on control and live her life for her and not others expectations. Two people on a path that collides and leaves them asking the bigger questions... Should they take the leap to their forever? This book and the stories of the men and women in the Seattle Stealhead Series is simply inspiring. The struggles that humanize and make them more believe able people is what makes this story and the series so addicting.Brett and Estie with their fury family was a joy and emotional romance.

Brett and Estie seem to spend more time fighting their attraction to each other more than anything else. Loved the book and all the characters.

Brett Gunnels was the Seattle Steelheads backup quarterback. While he had a super bowl ring like everyone else on the team, he didn’t think he truly earned it. So when Tyler Harris was injured and he was thrown into the game he knew this was his chance to earn his keep. He knew he had to work hard to overcome so many odds both on and off the field. What he didn’t expect was to fall helplessly in love with Tyler’s sister Estie.

Estelle ‘Estie’ Harris has her life planned and mapped out before her, a proper job and a proper fiancé Richard Michaels, it’s the way she thinks it should be. But in all honesty it wasn’t quite how she had pictured it at all when she was younger. She doesn’t know if she truly loves her fiancé and she definitely hates her job, the only thing that hasn’t changed is her love for animals. So when Tyler offers teammate Brett a place to stay at her place, things might be shaken up for the good.

Now the question is can Brett overcome his fears and PTSD and can Estie let go of her OCD a little bit. Because if they both figure it out in time the two of them can make an incredible couple.

I have always loved Jami Davenport’s books especially the Steelhead series. This was a great book and one to definitely add to your reading list. Now that being said there was one thing that bothered me, okay well two. The first is why one character suddenly disappeared. There were several questions that should have answered before it happened. Then Brett’s military service should have been brought back up so you know why he has PTSD maybe in a prologue. If you haven’t read other ones it does make you scratch your head a little.

Estelle Harris is living a life that she doesn't really want anymore, she's working a job she that leaves her unfulfilled, and is engaged to man her heart no longer loves. She needs a change, but finding the courage to embrace that change is another story. Then she meets former service member, now quarterback Brett Gunnels, and suddenly a change doesn't seem so bad.

He enlists her to care for his pets while he is on the road with the team, and with each interaction they have the hotter the sparks burn. Their connection blooms a friendship that has the potential for more... but taking things to that level is something that scares them both!

Between the pages of this expertly penned novel you will meet a couple that both let their emotional baggage hold them back from really living. Estelle has created a life for herself that she no longer wants, but is too afraid to rock the boat and go after the life she really wants. Brett has always been told he wasn't good enough for the job he dreamed of having, and now that he has it he isn't so sure how to handle all that comes with it, or the fact that his dream is finally coming true. It was evident that these two could be something special, but getting to that point in their friendship seemed impossible when they looked through their doubtful eyes. These two had a war waging with their hearts and minds, each telling them something different, but little by little they began to listen less to what their heads were saying, and followed where their hearts were leading them. I loved following them on their little journey, even if it hurt the heart a little at times, the minor hurt was well worth the outcome. If you love heartfelt romances heavy on feels and toe curling romance then I have no doubt this one will score serious points with you... it's outstanding on every level!

This is such a good book. My emotions were all over the place. I loved the animals in this book, especially Bongo the parrot! He sure came out saying some crazy things. I have to say that Estie’s fiancé was such a jerk. I don’t understand how she did t see it. But she was such a control freak that I guess that clouded her judgment. Estie’s brother was the quarterback for the Seattle team and Brett was the backup quarterback that had not seen any action. So many people doubted Brett because of his size (not as tall as most of the team). Brett had feelings for Estie, but would not act on them as long as she was engaged. Estie’s brother Harris gets hurt in one of the games and Brett has to take over. They were just a few games from the playoffs. I loved that Harris was determined to help Brett and sat with him all day every day going over footage of teams they were about to play. Harris was a cocky thing that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. I was glad to see Brett notice another side of him. It was awkward at first to see how Brett didn’t have confidence in himself. I know a lot of that was because of his father and the naysayers in the sports world. I was glad to see how Estie boosted his confidence. I was glad to see Estie and Brett work on a relationship. It was hard to see all the ups and downs between the two as I loved them together. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
