How to be a good Human: A modern guide to living a good life. Kindle Edition

4.8 out of 5 stars 6 ratings

A book full of useful advice of the practical kind. It won't teach you to change a tap or stop a leaky pipe, but it will tell you how to deal with life in general. Full of age old wisdom that in this modern age we seem to be forgetting, this book aimed at young and old is a useful guide when things are seeming difficult and you need a bit of advice or a prompt about the way to think about things differently.

This is not an easy fix book, many of the things we have to do to get our lives running smoothly require a great deal of effort and continuing practice and this book is a resource you can keep coming back to again and again. There is also a free podcast to support the book on all major podcast platforms - search for IAMSHOKONIN to find it.

Full content visible, double tap to read brief content.

Andrew grew up all over the world, in fact he is living in what he thinks is his eleventh country, but this changes according to how often countries have merged or broken up over the last fifty years. (it could be thirteen and that doesn’t include going back to countries already lived in for a year or so).

Andrew is not a normal person by any stretch of the imagination, and this is down to having been semi nomadic all his life as well as having had a couple of careers that required him to travel and work in over 40 countries in his life so far. He has worked in most industry sectors and some of the largest companies in the world helping them to succeed.

All of this is by way of explaining why Andrew is quite uniquely qualified to offer an opinion on the more fundamental aspects of life and humanity; he’s seen quite a lot of it, from top to bottom, inside and out, North South East and West.

Andrew is a dedicated Shokunin and specialises in passing on wisdom from some of the ten thousand years of literature he has read in his lifetime. Branded as IAMSHOKUNIN on line, Andrew has a Podcast (https://iamshokunin.buzzsprout.com/) and occasionally produces Vlogs as well. He maintains a Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/IAMSHOKUNIN/

As a still working management consultant, and author of a book called Productivity, Andrew lives in Spain when he is not travelling.

This book is the equivalent of having a proper, grown up conversation about topics that are fundamental to us as people. Obviously written by someone with experience and a well rounded view of the world. As with any text or author you don't need to agree with every single point but I suspect you will agree with the vast majority and more importantly reflect on your own opinions and the way you interact with people. An easy read and something that can be dipped into again and again.

Some words of wisdom for young men starting out in the world of adulthood – and for all of us in general. This is what every father ought to be telling his son. Looking forward to the sequel for daughters!
