The ghost of a little girl will stop at nothing to get a mother.
After a crushing family tragedy, Melinda needed a safe place to heal with her husband and teenage step-daughter. The lovely farm her great-aunt left to her seems the perfect place. When they open the doors, the house is full of boxes and toys and dolls.
Lots of dolls.
Dolls with secrets revolving around a mysterious wooden box Melinda finds buried in the hoard.
Sheriff Kingsley knows something strange swirls through Maddison, Indiana. An undercurrent of evil that permeates the town. The evil seems focused on Melinda’s farm, and the box. Can he stop what is coming?
Clearing out the hoarded home releases Melinda’s true inheritance. Can her mind, and her family, survive the legacy left to her or will the house of dolls destroy them?

Enjoy this short excerpt:
The hall passage is lighter now than it was on our trip in. Every door on this hall except the laundry was closed before. The door to the dining, turned sewing, turned doll room is open now. My dog, Mojo, growls into the room.
I peek slowly around the jamb.
Eyes, thousands of eyes.
Dolls cover every available space. Shelves and tables and chairs full of dolls. Even the picture window with the seat below is full of dolls. The afternoon sunshine through the window stings my eyes after the darkness of the crowded hall.
The sun glints off their eyes in thousands of pinpricks of light, mesmerizing, hypnotizing.
Mojo barks suddenly, sharp and angry. A strong force pushes me into the room. The surprise of the shove knocks the jars of beef out of my arms.
The glass jars hit the floor. The sound of shattering glass and a slamming door fill the room simultaneously.
The beef chunks and broken jars swim in a pool of congealed juice and fat. The mess looks disgusting.
Hungry, Mojo rushes to the pool, and gulps down the beef.
“Stop, you’ll get cut,” I shout.
Mojo looks up as he wolfs down a chunk of beef. Juice runs out of his mouth, as does a thin stream of blood.
Someone pushed me in here. My shoulders still sting from the rough shove, my knee aches from landing on the floor.
Thousands of doll eyes stare with blank expressions.
Frantic to escape them, I attempt to open the door. My hand slips off the knob, slick with blood.
“What the?” I find a small cut at the base of a finger. “Crap.” I shove the bleeding finger into my mouth. Added to the adrenaline and fear, the sick taste of blood makes my stomach flip.
With my unhurt hand, I try the knob again. I don’t slip off this time, but it won’t turn.
The door is locked.

Make this a movie!
Inheriting Elyse is the second in the Maddison, Indiana Supernatural Thriller series by Dawn Merriman. This book is written with such vision and clarity that it is like watching a movie or a chilling television show (think a combination of American Horror Story and The Conjuring franchises). Since I'd just read book one of the series, I knew I could expect some great writing and a dynamic plot, but I was utterly unprepared for such a phenomenal sequel. The INTRODUCTION was so compelling that it literally left me breathless. Once I centered myself, I went on to the first chapter and caught myself holding my breath all over again. This book does NOT let the reader go. Featuring an inherited farm, ghosts, possession, dolls, and a family struggling to start over, Ineriting Elyse hits several horror tropes, but Merriman keeps the story fresh and intriguing. If you love clean suspense that will scare your socks off and keep you coming back for more, Inheriting Elyse is the book for you.

I'd just finished Marked by Death and immediately ordered Inheriting Elyse! Dawn Merriman has a lot of spooky thoughts running through that brain of hers and translates to paper exquisitely! I already knew Madisonn, Indiana isn't all it seems to be. Sweet little town, good people, and lurking evil. While Inheriting Elyse doesn't pick up on the main character in Marked By Death it does bring in some of the other characters and they're becoming more interesting all the time and I hope there's another to the series. Supernatural, evil and hauntings seem to the norm for Madisonn.

This wasn’t what I was expecting because of it being a book 2 of a series. I was expecting a mystery/thriller. This was more a ghost story. It wasn’t a bad story, and I can get the gist of where the series is heading. It only gets 4 stars because of the typos. I don’t know if the author has beta readers, an editor or both but someone missed the typos.

Wow, nothing like a possessed doll to freak you out and keep you reading. Might be best to read during the day, but what fun is that? Loved it!

I like the way this book is written about a family, problems, but most of all an evil ghost! It's a fast read with a house with a hoarding problem and walking dolls reeking of havoc on the whole household. You won't be disappointed in this supernatural thriller!

I must say this was the most difficult book that I have read thus far.
I rate this book a five star. I do not like dolls or clowns they freak me out there are no clowns in this book thank goodness. But I"m so happy that I did read this second book of this series. It was exciting a page turner for sure. I got through it and now I can't wait to read the third book..

I wasn't sure about this story until I really got into it. If you are a fan of scary books that will make you question if evil demons are among us, you will want to read this.

What is it about dolls that can freak us out? Whatever it is, this book has worked it out. Just that subtle edge of scariness wanders through the book from the very beginning and culminates in a climax that remains open to further future fear - read the book to find out why. Basically well written, definitely not for reading at night.
