Karma Karma: A fast-paced supernatural thriller Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 5 ratings

What would you do to escape the past?

Seventeen-year-old Jack Ethan Dray has put his street-gang past firmly behind him, or so he thinks.

When he gets a shout-out from an old gang member and his ex-girlfriend starts acting as if they’re getting back together again, Jack worries his past is coming back to haunt him.

Then Bonita Chang asks for his help to find her twin brother.

A brother that used to belong to a rival gang.

Jack knows that his only chance of being with Bonita is if he helps her.

But he’s no hero…until she starts acting like he is one.

‘Karma Karma’ is a spellbinding story about the thin line between good and evil and the choices we make, and about facing up to who we are.

Another fabulous book from this author combining a touch of supernatural with current issues surrounding gang culture in modern cities.

Jack is a young lad, trying to start over after making a dangerous decision to leave a gang called The Ride and nearly losing his own life for it. He’s happier, attends college and has ambitions to study law. He’s made new friends and there is a girl Jack is making a connection with.

Until his world is literally turned upside down and Jack is ripped apart by fear, loyalty and feelings for a girl he hardly knows. Strange things start to happen, Jack starts losing his friends through comments and actions he doesn’t remember and dreams that just feel too real. And what’s worse, his Ride tattoo seems to be coming back together.

Jack faces an internal struggle that makes an unusual appearance. He is forced to face up to his past and to himself in a battle to save his friends and the girl he is falling in love with.

Brilliant book, believable characters, face paced story. Great all round for young adult audience and adults alike.

Many thanks to the author for the digital copy of KARMA, KARMA Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Jack thinks he's put his days as a gang member behind him. He's staying away from everyone he knew from those days, but his ex-girlfriend doesn't seem to get the message.

Strange thinks are happening. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees someone who looks an awful lot like him. And others say they've seen Jack here and there, as well as the ex-girlfriend who doesn't understand why he's hot one minute and cold the next.

Choices will have to be made .. IF he wants to continue on his path away from evil and toward goodness.

This is an intriguing look at teenagers determining their future lives ... who they want to be...

A bit of sci-fi / horror features a younger brother who sees auras ... body tattoos that seem to disappear ... even alter egos. The main characters are not completely credible, but they're pretty close. It's dark and in some aspects, kind of creepy. It's a compelling read and leads to an unexpected conclusion.

This was a good read but slow to start. I liked Jack's character. I liked Arifs character too. I was glad with the ending. 4*.

In the context of street gangs, Karma Karma asks the ever-vital question of who we really are in a vivid, thrilling way that’s bang relevant for teens of all genders.
When seventeen-year-old Jack’s friends start to see him doing deeds that are totally out-of-character, Jack begins to realise that Jed is on the scene. But how can he explain Jed to his dance buddies, his new girlfriend Bonnie, his family – especially when Jed kidnaps his little brother, Danny? The odds of Jack ever pulling completely clear of his ex-gang-boss, Sol, look ever more stacked against him, especially when he gets his hands on Bonnie’s twin, Juan.
Exploring auras, alter egos, disappearing/reappearing tatts through a range of convincing characters, this is a gripping story that plays at the edges of horror and the supernatural whilst remaining constantly believable.
Lorraine Cannell is a YA writer to watch, going from strength to strength in a genre in which she’s completely at home.
