About the author

"Poignant, powerful and searingly emotional, AnneMarie Brear stands shoulder to shoulder with the finest works by some of the genre’s greatest writers such as Catherine Cookson, Audrey Howard and Rosamunde Pilcher." Amazon reviewer.
Author of over thirty-five novels, AnneMarie Brear has crafted sweeping historical fiction with atmosphere, emotion, and drama aplenty that will surely satisfy any fan of the genre. AnneMarie was born in a small town in N.S.W. Australia, to English parents from Yorkshire, and is the youngest of five children. From an early age she loved reading, working her way through the Enid Blyton stories, before moving onto Catherine Cookson’s novels as a teenager.
Living in England during the 1980s and more recently, AnneMarie developed a love of history from visiting grand old English houses and this grew into a fascination with what may have happened behind their walls over their long existence. Her enjoyment of visiting old country estates and castles when travelling and, her interest in genealogy and researching her family tree, has been put to good use, providing backgrounds and names for her historical novels which are mainly set in Yorkshire or Australia between Victorian times and WWII.
A long and winding road to publication led to her first novel being published in 2006.
She has now published over thirty-five historical family saga novels, becoming an Amazon best seller and with her novel, The Slum Angel, winning a gold medal at the USA Reader's Favourite International Awards. Two of her books have been nominated for the Romance Writer’s Australia Ruby Award and the USA In’dtale Magazine Rone award and recently she has been nominated twice as a finalist for the UK RNA RONA Awards.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2021It was really a 4.75. The storyline was very good and kept my interest totally. This lady can write beautifully while spinning a great story. This was one of those books U cannot put down. Enjoy a great read.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 23, 2016In the prequel, Kitty Mc Kenzie, at her parents’ funeral, Kitty promised to keep her family together, and subsequently proved her bravery. When I finished the novel, (which I have reviewed), I looked forward to reading the sequel, Kitty McKenzie’s Land.
After twenty-one days on the voyage from Newcastle to Sydney, Kitty and the other ship’s passengers leant “against the ship’s rails, eager for their first glimpse of the small city. They all delighted in spying little bays with golden beaches, rocky cliffs, inlets and thick forest. Every now and then in the distance, a small cottage materialised at the water’s edge.”
Kitty is delighted to have brought her family and friend and two servants to the other side of the world.
When the ship docks, Kitty frets. Where is Ben? Did he receive her telegram? Does he still want to marry her? “Whatever comes, she must face her new life with courage.”
Ben dodged people and baggage. “He crushed her to him and held her tight. She cared nothing for the looks and stares that came their way, for at last Ben held her.”
Pleased, I hoped they would be happy.
Ben remarks that her three younger sisters and brother have grown. Behind them stood her dearest friend, Connie, holding her twins and “their mouths agape at the strangeness of this new land, Alice and Hetta befriended servants.
Through Kitty’s eyes Brear showed me Sydney. I really enjoyed this talented novelist's recreation of times past.
Kitty and her seventeen-year old sister, Mary, were surprised “to see such beautiful and grand buildings in a relatively new city. They viewed quaint churches of all denominations, and public buildings of classical architecture.” From the tram the saw The Rocks “an area of crime and poverty…slums where the rough, disorderly inhabitants showed no respect for the law or other people.”
In spite of Kitty’s pride, which nearly causes her to break off her engagement, she and Ben are too deeply in love for their quarrel to last. Their wedding day should have been the happiest day of their lives but fate dealt a cruel blow, after which the only solution is to live off the land.
To use a cliché, Kitty McKenzie’s land is a page turner. From beginning to end it held my interest. I wanted the best life could give for Kitty, her family, friends and servants.
I have no hesitation in recommending this well-written, interesting novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 23, 2018OVERWHELMING..I am not sure I could read a follow-up about this family! The writing is so emotional. Not very many smiles but an abundance of tears and heartache.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 28, 2018Terrific reading greatly enjoyed this one as much as the 1st. A great story teller, holding the reader wanting more.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2019The characters, now in Australia, become involved in their new homeland. More characters join them and the plot expands from Sydney to the Outback. I enjoyed Book 1 more than Book 2.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 20, 2018This books and one before has such a wonderful story line that is told. A person doesn't want to stop reading or listening to the story. There are some very touching parts of the story about Kitty. She always trying to keep the family together. All the difficulty she meets to trying to keep her promise that she made to her dead parents.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2018This is a true page turner! I didn't want to put it down. I loved the charachters, the settings, the writing, just about everything! That makes it so frustrating to get to such a chopped off end. Several more chapters to fill in the gaps.
And here's the spoiler. ....
More about her miscarriage and his blame and accusation against her. A least a scene decribing it rather than just telling it as a past event. Further frustration that he never sees the harridan female for what she is. A scene where he overhears the Jezebel character demean and snear at the heroine would have worked. Without these oprions I am left with the impression that he is a mean and shallow man and it made me think their relationship is doomed. I actually threw my kindle down when the book abruptly ended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Book
I have only recently read books by AnneMarie Brear and I cannot get enough of them. I just love her stories from the first page and I read them so quickly I am sad when I have finished the book but I just cannot put them down once started.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good sequel
I think I liked this even a little more than the first book - Kitty McKenzie....possibly because it's set in Australia. Like the first book Kitty is still looking after, and trying to keep her family together. As well as trying to make a future for them all in very trying circumstances, she also encounters much heartache and I kept wondering if she would ever find true happiness. A very good read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good follow up
I enjoyed the second of the 3 saga series, but I liked the first story better than the second. Maybe because of the hardships Kitty had to encounter, or maybe her decisions putting her family in danger, awful consequences. But, she sure knows how to work!!!
