Elizabeth Bailey grew up in Africa with unconventional parents, where she loved reading and drama. On returning to England, she developed her career in acting, theatre directing and finally writing.

Elizabeth's latest venture is The Lady Fan Mystery series, published by Sapere Books. The novels feature amateur sleuth Lady Ottilia Fanshawe and a cast of family members including her husband and champion Lord Francis Fanshawe. She originally published Regency romances with Harlequin Mills & Boon and has many titles in her Brides by Chance Regency Adventures series, now also published by Sapere, as well as standalone Regency and Georgian romances.

Elizabeth also writes edgy women's fiction: Her dual time novel Fly The Wild Echoes, which deals with past lives, and For One More Tomorrow, where the ghost of the real Macbeth returns, protesting his villainous portrayal by Shakespeare. And she has published a romantic suspense novella, Silence of a Stranger.

Elizabeth lives in Sussex, England. She is still an inveterate reader with eclectic tastes and she spends her spare time helping other writers improve their craft.

This was one of the most exciting stories I have read in a long time. This is one of those books you stay up all night to read because you can't put it down.

I really liked this story! The main characters were well drawn and likable, the villain was dastardly, and the secondary characters were also as well drawn as they needed to be. I did feel, however, that the villain could have been better punished. Elizabeth Bailey writes well written, proofread, and edited stories that keep with the manners and times of the late Georgian and early Regency period.

I haven't read any of the previous books in this series so I'm not sure if that would have helped understand these characters better, but I found this book dragged in places . It started out well with the mystery of what happened to Edith Westacott in Bath and who she was running from, but it didn't take long to uncover his identity. I liked Colonel Niall Lowrie better. He was doing his best trying to run an earldom he never expected to inherit in the first place. As a soldier, he knew his place in the world, but as an Earl, he was clueless, but willing to learn as much as he could in a short amount of time. He first comes across Edith when walking in the woods. She lay in a faint and his first instinct is to help and protect her. As his feelings grow for her, he tries hard to understand what she's so afraid of as she reluctant to speak of it. There was some good tension filled moments as the villain stalks Edith, but I thought his ending a little unrealistic especially Edith's role in it.

I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy and all opinions are my own.

A hero, a heroine, a pair of strange, giggling young ladies, a Vicar/uncle and his house keeper and the support of a whole town and of course a villain.
These all mesh together in an extremely easy to read and most enjoyable historical novel which I thoroughly loved.
The best was the honor, trust and growing love between the two main characters which warmed my heart.
A beautiful story well told by Elizabeth Bailey.
I read an Advance Reader's Copy of this book and this is my honest and unbiased review.

Have you ever heard one discordant note being played over and over?? That's this book. It made me so uncomfortable because a supposedly intelligent woman behaves like an idiot, won't ask for help and won't trust the two men in her life who could help her. So it drags this out over twenty some melodramatic, boring chapters. I hated the previous book in this series for similar reasons, so two in a row makes me not even want to go on. This writer's other series is better, with more plot and stronger characters, but this series tries to make a novel out of insufficient material. Sad because otherwise this author writes beautifully as far as style goes.

This was an exciting romance with great characters. Niall is a strong, practical, capable hero who actually communicates and allows no misunderstandings. Edith is a smart and witty heroine in a frightening situation. The villain is so evil. One of the best scenes in the story was the exciting race where the villain chases Niall and Edith. I enjoyed reading this book very much.

Once again a super novel by Elizabeth Bailey. Her stories are always worth reading. I hope that the other stories are of the same standard. I am sure that they will be.

5.0 out of 5 stars The plight of Regency Women

This well written book gives a glimpse into the hazards facing an unprotected woman in the Regency era. I found myself angry at the arrogance of the man who thought he had the right to treat her as he wanted. I also applauded the heroine and her strength to try to defend herself. And of course there is a hero who wanted to protect her. An enjoyable read.

A top class trad regency with fine upstanding heroine and hero versus a thoroughly vile villain. Good plotting, dialogue and characters, and a fine period feel.
