The Princess Rebellion (The Kyroibi Trilogy Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 22 ratings

They want her to end the tyranny of an empire.
But is theirs the side of justice?

Ellie only wanted to save the world; she never wanted to rule it. But as the true master of the Kyroibi and heir to the Korghetian throne, she’s now expected to do both. Worse, she’s also expected to play nice with the other leaders of the Ghowrn Alliance, including the overbearing Prince Gevandar, who sees her as nothing more than a weapon to unleash upon the Huptsovian Empire.
When imperial ships are discovered lurking in Ghowrn space, war becomes inevitable. Ellie finds herself pressured to use the automaton army under her command to end the battle once and for all. With only a handful of allies, she instead embarks on a mission to free the Alliance planets, determined to avoid a full scale robot invasion.
Besides, the more she learns about her mysterious battalion, the more she wonders if peace was ever truly their purpose. And if so, at what cost?

Epic Space Fantasy

From her six foot four inch height to the uniform white dots that peppered her skin in perfect geometric patterns, Ellie Whitmore was certainly unusual, but an alien from the other side of the galaxy? Of course not. That's just what the tabloids said to sell papers.

Or so she thought.

Christina McMullen is a science fiction and fantasy author who just can't seem to keep humor from sneaking into everything she writes. When she's not writing (which is most of the time these days), she's either getting her butt kicked in Mario Kart or catering to the whims of a very small and very grouchy dog.

I loved getting away from Earth, seeing where Ellie is from, getting to find out more about the universe McMullen has built, and meeting new characters. I enjoyed the pace of the story, easily turning page after page, and I can't wait for the third one.

There was one thing that cemented this as a five star for me, and that was the character Gevandar. Almost immediately on meeting him, I wanted to give him a high five. In the face. With a chair. When an author can get that kind of emotional response from me, they get five stars.

Loved the first book! This, too, was well-written. I enjoyed the unveiling of the different worlds, as well as the introduction of some fab new characters. The story line is has deep elements of human rights and social justice intertwined with the fantasy and sci-fi. Looking forward to seeing how Ellie and Julian's story plays out in book three.

A lot of growth in the main character through this book. Ellie learns to set some priorities and only move to change the culture when she can.

What can I say? This second book of the series is a knockout! It gets more into the mystique of the Kyroibi, and what it means to Ellie to be a true master. She handles it well.

The world building and great characterization continue, and the three princesses, Ellie, Mikk, and Bethany (hey, she’s from Queens, that makes her a princess!), show that princesses can be strong and not just pretty faces. They get down to the business of fighting and saving; they prove that they don’t need no knight in shining armor to do the work for them!...although I have to say that Julian makes for a right nice knight in shining armor!

There are plenty of twists in this story that’ll keep you on your toes.

A great continuation of the series. I already have the third installment and I’m looking forward to it!
