Lavender and Lace: A Contemporary Christian Romance (The Bloom Sisters Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 384 ratings

In their online writer chatroom, they are getting serious.
In the real world; He thinks she’s shallow, and she thinks he’s out of touch.
When their worlds collide, will their hearts survive?

Lavender Bloom is a social marketing expert and influential fashion blogger. Always focused on the perfect image, she shows the world a flawless version of herself, except to her family and her nameless online best friend. Her broody new client certainly doesn’t understand her or why she prefers to hide behind her computer.

Reclusive author Emmett Drake spends his days writing his award-winning fantasy saga and his nights chatting online with the woman of his dreams. When he is forced to hire an image consultant to please his publisher, he despises everything the woman stands for, even if he sees hidden depths beneath her polished façade.

Lavender is determined to help Emmett embrace the power of social media, convinced he has the platform to make a difference. Meanwhile, he is determined to uncover the woman hiding behind the carefully scripted marketing lingo. Their struggle to find authenticity in a world centered on likes, comments, and shares will challenge them both to embrace God’s purpose for their lives – together.

Return to Bloom’s Farm in Lavender and Lace and embrace the joy of family, faith, and true love in this nostalgic modern nod to the romantic classic, You’ve Got Mail.

Listening to God’s whispers CAN lead to happy endings
This book is so well written. I’ve been a fan of Ericsons for awhile now and it’s been truly amazing watching her writing style develop. The way she writes about the characters and their feelings/life draws you in. This book is one of those sit down and read-for-hours-before-you-know-it, books! You can’t stop as your taken into the life of Lavender Bloom. She comes across several set backs and hard choices that are quite unique but her faith never ceases. Lavender’s story is one that shows how Gods plan isn’t always clear at first-but he will always work things out according to his will. Highly recommend!!

The main characters are well developed. The side characters could be more rounded. Regardless, I enjoyed reading this book today.

Ah, there's nothing like a book where the two MCs are an author and a social media influencer to be relatable! And they're adorably awkward when put together.
Lavender and Emmett challenge each other to overcome their prejudices and by rooting their identity in Christ, find the freedom to represent themselves honestly and consistently across their spheres. They learn to surrender their fears and futures to God and forgive in the face of betrayal. This was a solid addition to the Bloom family series, giving us more time with each member of this beloved family.

Not having read any other books in this series, the Bloom sisters got confusing. But not too much. It definitely focuses on Lavender and sets up Lily for the next one.

As a fiction author myself and a blogger, I could relate to both Emmett and Lavender. I really appreciated the authentic struggle between being the same person online as you are in person. I still struggle with that.

I loved the modern take on You've Got Mail, one of my very fav rom-coms! I was slightly disappointed that the plot twists were the exact same as the movie – I guess I was hoping for something more dramatic. But this was still so cute and romantic and inspiring.

I really loved the addition of a Christian theme!

There were a few typos and errors, though, which brought it down from 5 stars for me.

    Favorite quotes:
“God had blessed her in many seasons, and in this one, He would give her the strength she needed each day.” (p. 5)

“She was incredibly well-read. Could there be a more attractive quality in a woman? Probably not to an author.” (p. 10)

“Usually, people expected him to be grumpy or intimidating with his muscular frame and tattoos, but Emmett had quickly realized that Josh was one of those 'fullness of joy' believers. No matter how hard Emmett tried, he never seemed to be able to get there.” (p. 12)

“You'd think by book four, he would know what he was doing. But this manuscript had him totally lost.” (p. 21)

“Online, she could carefully choose and wordsmith her thoughts. In some way, she could control the perception, just like with her carefully edited videos.” (p. 31)

“Josh would kill him if he knew, but Emmett kept a duffel bag packed, just in case. Too many placements ended with an unannounced visit from his caseworker and a five-minute window to grab his meager possessions before climbing in the back of the car again.” (p. 64)

“Perhaps that meant she still cared too much about what others thought, but she was being honest. And sometimes the most difficult person to be honest with was herself.” (p. 75)

“He was surprisingly thoughtful for an egotistical author.” (p. 150)

“'A bitterness takes root inside you, ruining the soil for all the other fruit that needs to grow.' 'Very nice, God. And not subtle at all. I get it.'” (p. 170)

This is the first in the series I read and loved it. This was cute and well done and it was also nice that I could still follow along even though I had not read any of the other books in the series. Which I will now read.

    Very Cute and deep!

I also love the christian focus while still being a romance between two people as well it mixed very well.

A fun online dating type of story, Emmett and Lavender are a slow burn. I enjoyed learning Emmett's back story, and seeing Lavender finally get her HEA.
  • Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2020
This one kept me up late, as I anticipated the truth about the characters to unravel at any given moment. I enjoyed watching the characters grow from judging each other to realizing they love each other. I also enjoyed watching Lavender grow more confident and seeing the reach she had to so many people with her new resolve to be authentic and open about her struggles and her faith.
I loved that Emmitt was a writer for Silver Fountain Press. 😉 I identified with Lavender as being the shy one, but definitely not as the fashionista. 😅 I also identified with Emmitt’s desire to simply write and to not be forced to put on a show online for everyone and brave the feedback. I’ve learned from both of their journeys.
I’m super excited about Lily’s story next!

On-line friendship, a chance meeting at the library. Misunderstandings and attractions. Falling for two different people at the same time. This book has it all - and it was only strong self-discipline that had me closing it and not reading until 2 or 3 am (so I could finish it all in one sitting.)

As I am intense about books and words, I enjoyed this one. I especially liked the quotes. Like Lavender, I usually read the ending first. Pity it's not always easy to do in real life. In this case, it ends up well. A good read.
