- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2017Format: KindleVerified Purchase‘Lost Girl’ is a well-written page-turner and brilliant re-imagining of the Peter Pan tale we all know and love. All the classic elements are present, each with a new spin.
For the first seven chapters, readers follow Wendy as a child, locked in the Neverland Institution on an island, fearful of the Red Skulls who force the doctors to run further experiments on the children. Wendy is slow to make friends in her captivity, but the one she calls Boy, with green eyes and auburn hair, she knows she can trust.
Seven years later, Wendy has been adopted by George and Mary, has become an older sister to their son John, and has made a life for herself in high school. All this despite the nightmares and shadows that seem to haunt her. When the shape-shifting shadows attack in public, and Wendy can no longer fight what she sees and pretend that she is normal, she runs away from home to avoid being institutionalized again. Instead, she falls in with Peter, Tink, and the Lost Boys at their Neverwood Academy hideout, in an awkward dance of secrets versus trust.
Rumor has it the sequel, ‘Lost Boy’ will be published very soon. Get your copy of ‘Lost Girl’ while it’s on sale!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLost Girl by Chanda Hahn was a familiar story with a science fiction twist that was both delightful and fast paced. The author did an excellent job of taking the well-known children’s story of Peter Pan and twisting it into a face-paced YA Thriller/Romance. There were themes of genetic manipulation, human testing, super-powers, and even a taste of the supernatural.
Technically speaking, the book was well written. At times the repetitive use of character names could come off as a bit overdone, but it was easy to understand why the author chose to do it. The style of the book was easy to follow and understand for teen readers without dumbing it down too much or over-hinting at any of the story twists. There were some surprising twists and turns to the story, and I found the characters complex enough to hold my interest despite their familiarity. The romance was expected, but intriguing once the unfamiliar character of Jax was introduced.
Overall, I enjoyed the story and would certainly consider moving on in the series. I’ll be interested in seeing how this series pans out.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIn a secret facility, children are being experimented upon in the hopes to give them powers that will make them grow into superior soldiers. But some of the scientists in charge have come to realize that this facility is not something they want to be a part of when the current generation is ruled a failure and plans are made to start all over after destroying their “failed” experiments. Unwilling to be a part of something that will kill innocent children, a few of the scientists decide to help as many as possible escape from the Neverland facility.
Wendy has no memory of her previous life at Neverland, she only knows that she has night terrors and nightmares that she doesn’t understand. She also sees shadows that don’t behave the way that shadows should, though no one else seems to see these things and often believe that she is hallucinating or even a bit crazy. But the truth is that she isn’t crazy or hallucinating. So what is really going on, and why can’t she remember anything of her life from before she met the people who eventually adopted her?
I really enjoyed this story. It was a very unique twist on the Peter Pan story. I loved how all the familiar characters were involved, from Captain Hook and S.Mee to Slightly and all the other lost boys.
I was greatly amused at the role that J.M. Barrie played in the story. I am very glad that I picked this one up to read and will continue on with the rest of the series to find out what will happen next in this retelling. I truly enjoyed the twist that the author took in writing this tale, and how she made it all seem to be something that could take place in the “real” world. Recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 29, 2017Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLost Girl is the first book in The Neverwood Chronicles. It is a Peter Pan retelling of sorts. Peter Pan is, and always will be, one of my very favorite stories. That said, I am very picky about any retellings or reimaginings of it. Lost Girl exceeded my expectation, and I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
The characters were well developed, and I loved the combination of spunky, yet kind, and independent yet still willing to admit she needs help sometimes in Wendy. The character of Peter was perfect, he was imaginative and protective, in charge, yet still a bit immature, and sweet and dreamy as can be. All of the supporting characters had individual personalities and stood out of their own accord well.
The twists and turns throughout the story were well laid out and not very predictable. The story was well thought out, and the ending was enough of completion of this story while still leaving you more than ready for the next.
I give this book 5 dragonflies and can't wait to get started on Lost Boy. Content-wise, this is a young adult, 12+ friendly book.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 17, 2016Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLost Girl by Chanda Hahn is the story of a small girl with amazing abilities. All she has to do is remember her abilities... Wendy can't remember part of her life, but there's an organization who remembers her and wants her back. Peter has been given a great responsibility in taking care of a group of boys, but he can't let go of the one girl that he truly lost.
So this book is for all you Peter Pan fans, and for all you ladies out there that wished Peter Pan grew up :) This is really an incredible twist to a timeless tale and I loved reading every single second of it. I loved seeing characters that I've read and of course seen on movies come to life in a new way. Each one was familiar, and Ms. Hahn did a great job at keeping those characters true but in today's modern time. If you love a good read with a little fantasy, romance, and suspense you definitely need to read Chanda Hahn's Lost Girl.

5.0 out of 5 stars I could not put it down and it easily became my favourite Peter Pan retelling.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book was AMAZING!!! I could not put it down and it easily became my favourite Peter Pan retelling. It is such a unique twist on the story - it is a MUST read.
The characters were absolutely loveable. Wendy was smart and brave even though she faced great challenges. And Tink…! I was never a huge fan of Tinkerbell, but in this one, she stole my heart. Of course, we can’t forget about Peter. What a darling. ;) He was a leader, but he was also vulnerable and sweet.
The writing was enjoyable. There were a few typos here and there, but it was nothing terrible. And the plot totally had me hooked. XD I was in over my head the entire time.
I can’t go without mentioning the ending, though. ARRRGH what a steep cliffhanger! After everything that happened Wendy… Well, I better not spoil it. Haha
Lastly, this was mostly a clean read. There is mention of Tink swearing, but her words are covered by bells that ring at the same frequency as her voice.
So anyway… YOU MUST READ THIS BOOK. It is incredible and it only has 232 reviews on Goodreads! It deserves more than that so please, give it a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome start to the Neverwood Chronicles
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHonestly, all of Chanda Hahn's book are great, but the Neverwood Chronicles Triology is one of the ones at the top. Neverland is brought back to life and Peter and Wendy work together along with Tink and the Lost Boys to defeat Captain Hook, who is STILL seeking his revenge.
5 STARS!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI seem to have read a bunch of books later that seem to be "young adult", featuring a seventeen year old girl who is an orphan, and who discovers she has superpowers, and ends up in a home for similar teenages with fantastic facilities. Is that a genre?
In fairness this was one of the better ones, and the author does bring the characters to life.
It draws on Peter Pan in a bizarre way (the Disney version at that, I suspect), with many characters having the same names. Not really sure why, to be honest, and could have been annoying, but wasn't.

I can not wait to hear peters POV in book #2 Lost Boy! This series was very interesting and fun set in a modern day world! I highly recommend this series!
