Joan Reeves, Writing Happily Ever After—Time After Time, is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Romance. Regardless of the sub-genre, all of her novels have the same underlying premise: "It's never too late to live happily ever after. Her novels have been published in half a dozen languages, and her books are available in audio, ebook, and print.

NOTE: Since Joan has been writing for several years and had print books published with many publishers—American and foreign—be sure you choose a print book with a copyright date after 2011 because Amazon shows all of her old print books here. When not writing romance—or nonfiction to share what she has learned in life—Joan divides her time between the hustle and bustle of Houston and a house in the Texas Hill Country where she and her hero, her husband, sit on the porch at night, look at the star-studded sky, and listen to the coyotes howl.

Joan Reeves takes us deep in the heart of Texas in this work. Although we are up in the panhandle area, the passion, and the Texas feel are all deeply Texan. I can vouch for this, because I'm a Texan myself. Ms. Reeves captures the heart of Texas beautifully and then ties it up with a red bow and places it beneath the Christmas tree.
Heroine, Annabelle Cooper, blends vulnerability with tenacity, well. We see her interior self, struggling with her insecurities and her determination to not feel vicitmized, in very clear prose. For me, this war within herself wasn't overdone on any level. We didn't see her struggling with her issues to the point of being juvenile, but much the way a grown woman would. In some romance novels, the back and forth dance of doubt and insecurity can be way overdone. Not so here. It was the decision making of a grown woman, who finally decided to go with her instincts.
Hero, Rick Lassiter, is equally believable, reacting as most men would in his circumstances. Rick embodies the qualities that most women look for, but with Rick they're somewhat cloaked. It's a case of, now you see him, now you don't. I found myself waiting to get a clear view of Rick. Sometimes in life, and in stories, you have to wait for things to site in. (A little Texas lingo, here :)
I found this read to bring home the feel of Texas, the richness and joy of the Christmas season, and give me the reassurance that things can go right, even if they look like they're way wrong. It makes you believe. And for me, that's exactly what most readers are looking for in a Christmas piece. The peace, love, and belief of Christmas. Excellent Christmas read, Ms. Reeves!

If you like an authentic contemporary Texas read, you can do no better than Ms. Reeves. Her small town Texas stories are dead on, filled with the tiny details that make you feel like a native. Last Christmas is a fine example of that. Her heroine Annabelle Cooper is lovely, identifiable, vulnerable but no pushover. And the hero Rick Lassiter, well, what can I say? Yum! He’s multilayered, sporting an exterior that’s all guy, while at his core he’s fundamentally kind. Best of all, Ms. Reeves always adds a little intrigue to spice up the plot, which makes turning the pages easy. For charm and warmth and a little bit of sexy, Last Christmas is the perfect holiday read. Even better, this is book one of a series. Can’t wait for the next installment!

It was even better than I expected. Annabelle was one hurt, angry woman who felt that she had given her heart and then was used and dumped. Nothing like a woman scorned. And when he walks in unexpectedly in her hometown? There's gonna be blood, and it's going to be his if she has her way.
She does come up a few diabolical ideas to make him suffer but things just don't work out the way she planned. Even when she enlists some of the people of the small town to help her. Some of them were being unknowingly used in her plan. Of course this brings moments of humor and some surprises. The townspeople were fun and Annabelle's grandmother was a great addition to the cast.
There is a surprise at the end of the book that explains more of what Rick has been up to and there will be questions that are answered. Not bad for a shorter book, there was a lot packed into those pages. It didn't feel like it was too short to me.

Easy to follow stand-alone. No editing errors, gratuitous violence or drag-you-down drama.

Entertaining, humorous novella of reunited love with a few quirks. Flexible procedures, actions and reactions. Believable dialogue and characters with distinct personalities.

No desire to re-read this story. I always look forward to works by this author.

They met at a Christmas party. She gave him a ride home and didn't leave for 5 days. He got a call he had to leave but but promised to call. He took her number then didn't. In June she lost her car and apartment in 2 floods. Then her job.
Grandma called offering her her dream job. She couldn't turn her down. Now it is time for the annual Christmas party. Who should come but the new chief of police. The name is wrong but the face was his.
A great story with just enough excitement to move it past great. I do highly recommend it.

I LOVED the story between Annabelle and Rick in LAST CHRISTMAS by Joan Reeves. From the first paragraph I was pulled into Annabelle's world of passionate love, heartbreak, and revenge...even if things didn't work out as planned. I laughed aloud with the twists and turns of small town life and love. It was a great quick read that brightened my day and left me in love again.

Author Joan Reeves set her story in the panhandle of Texas - where Annabelle Cooper moves back from Houston after losing everything in a devasting flood. Imagine her shock when she sees the man who broke her heart at her grandmother's holiday party! Problem is - the man's the same but not his name and he's the towns new police chief! What's a girl to do? She wants answers and revenge - but revenge sometimes turns into something much 'hotter'! Joan Reeves always entertains with her romantic comedies - this one is funny, with suspense and mystery, small-town characters that are real & rich....and always a page-turning story!
