The Line Between Us: Love and war conflict in a powerful historical saga Kindle Edition
Can love overcome all obstacles…?
1940, France
As the RMS Lancastria starts to sink off the coast of France with devastating consequences, Private Ifor Griffiths makes peace with the memories of his past.
Fighting for survival, and well aware he could be close to death, Ifor is haunted by the one person who has a hold on his heart…
Faced with family tragedy from a young age, Ifor helped to support his family by taking the post of gardener’s boy at Nanagalan, a grand estate on the Welsh borders.
But as a forbidden love started to blossom, Ifor began to question his place in society.
Can he challenge class prejudices to claim his soulmate? Will he survive the Second World War?
Or will duty and honour pull him away from the woman he loves?
THE LINE BETWEEN US is a shattering saga of lives changed forever by war. Class and pride combine with heartbreaking consequences in this historical love story, set against the background of the First and Second World Wars.
'A heart rending love story inspired by one of the unsung tragedies of the Second World War – the sinking of the Lancastria' – Joanna Lumley

- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2019I thoroughly enjoyed this historical saga. The characters were well defined and enjoyable. I never knew the story of the RMS Lancastria and I was fascinated to read about it, and appreciate the author’s research. This was a slow paced novel and I savored it from page 1.
Many thanks to Sapere and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2019This is a slow burning historical story that you'll love if you like Kate Morton.
The book starts during the First World War with Ifor and his family, that lives close to the Welsh border. His father and brother dies in the war, but Ifor is still a young boy and can't enlist. After the war he becomes a gardener at the manor Nanagalan, where he falls in love with the daugther of the house, Ella. Their story is heartbreaking and frustrating.
I liked the book but it isn't a perfect fit for me. It was a little too slow, but I know a lot of people who loves a slow pace, so this is just me and my preferences.

5.0 out of 5 stars of the gardens of the old house really stand out and are brilliantly done. The ending is a bit of cliffhanger ...
This is a real page turner which you look forward to returning to.The story rattles on with total conviction but you also engage with the characters. Each one is conveyed with care and detail and becomes vivid in your minds eye. The story is mainly told from the viewpoint of the main character, who is a kind of everyman, but also provides the main action - both narrator and protagonist. The book is well researched but melds in the historical detail in a way which is convincing and thought provoking . Certain descriptions such as of the sinking of the Lancastria, of the fire, of the gardens of the old house really stand out and are brilliantly done. The ending is a bit of cliffhanger and caused a lot of debate amongst friends of mine who also read this. Warmly recommended - a truly delightful and engaging read.!

5.0 out of 5 stars Desperate to use a pair o scissors.
Katie Dunn's writing is so thoughtful and engaging. Every word is there for a reason, and each scene and character is described with such command of the English language. Learning to ride a bike early on, is how people should fall in love, as I did with two of the main characters.
The sinking of the Lancastria is again superbly described, although I felt was slightly lost in the main story and only 'surfaced' sic. again at the end. Take nothing away from a superb book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Novel to Curl Up With
This is a fabulous book - irresistibly romantic. It is beautifully written and I was immediately drawn into the story of the life of this young man at a time when living the wrong side of the social divide from the one you love can bring emotional challenges. The characters are richly drawn and the descriptions of the gardens and countryside equally vivid. I was totally transported into Ifor's world. Great novel - thoroughly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enthralling Love Story
This is a well written emotional love story with enchanting prose. A page turner from the off. The class divide between the characters and historical setting is well researched. I would recommend - a fantastic read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The line between us
This is the first book I have read by Kate Dunn and I couldn’t put it down, had hoped for a happier ending but that is not true to life especially in that era. The characters were all brilliantly portrayed and you could understand their pain and the reasons for their actions. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
