- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2019Another fantastic book by this author. Her imagination continues to amaze me. Love the characters and the story line kept me reading late into the night. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book and chose to leave this review.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2019The main character in this story was so flighty and never seemed to stick to her decisions. There was more graphic violence than I like and the descriptions of the places she went left me feeling dirty, accept for random clean places that were never explained. I felt confused through most of the story and the intimacy was written in a vulgar manor that didn't seem romantic at all. The rendom use of the F word was out of place the two times it was used, almost like she thought "lets put a cuss word in here to make it more adult" or something. The writting style just didn't apeal to me so I won't be reading any more of her books .
- Reviewed in the United States on December 10, 2019What a peculiar story. I was provided a copy of this by the publisher, so I really hadn't a good notion of what it would be about. The idea was engaging, and the action, too. But overall I found myself wondering what exactly I was reading.
I was surprised to learn the author has so many books out, as this one seemed a bit...amateurish. It actually had the feeling of someone not writing in their native language, and someone who has never even lived in or visited America.
Sarah was all over the place, as a character and emotionally. And where in the world does a 19-year-old-woman think of herself as a child? And her aunt and uncle were worse about it, the uncle even calling her a child to her face. I wanted to smack him for her sake. Archer was all over, too. In fact, the only character who made any sense was the abused little girl.
I didn't buy the idea that they were in New York. New York is a big state, and much of it is NOT the big city, so I didn't have trouble with that, but the talk of being by the sea flummoxed me. The only real access to the sea in New York State is Long Island, which IS in the city, so how were they on a country estate by the sea? The lack of any refence points to real world places other than this generic "New York" bothered me, probably more than it needed to, but there you go.
Overall, the story was okay, in a weird, acid trip kind of way. But based on this offering, I won't be seeking out more work by this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2020Sarah thought her life with her aunt would be exciting but was quickly disappointed by what her new life has to offer. When she’s given a glimpse into a parallel realm, she takes the opportunity without thinking twice. While the other realm is filled with beauty, mystery, and intrigue, it is also rife with danger. Will Sarah make it out alive?
Sarah was not my favorite character. I’ve read a lot of Miss Elizabeth’s work at this point, and I was a little disappointed at the choice of main character in this one. Sarah was flaky and irresponsible. She made some questionable decisions that made it difficult to want to root for her.
As usual with Jordan Elizabeth’s work though, I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and worldbuilding. I’m always a sucker for parallel universe stories, and this one was thoroughly entertaining. Suspenseful and engaging, it becomes a race against the clock for Sarah to gather herself together and step up to save those around her or let her home be destroyed.
Narration was okay.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2019I really enjoyed the world that Jordan Elizabeth created in this book. Sarah is an immature 19 year old girl, but Lock develops into a woman who knows her mind. If you enjoy books about parallel universes or usurper kings, you will enjoy this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2019Another great book by Jordan. I absolutely loved it.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 13, 2019Received a copy to read at no cost to the author. It was a good read. There are some great twists and turns to the story. Readers will be drawn into the story from the beginning.
