Lost in Him: A Small Town Standalone Romance Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 1,878 ratings

“It’s an interesting tale about how the princess rejects her riches and flies free from the castle.”
My story isn’t quite so glamorous.
Well, not the part worth telling.

After my parents tried marrying me off to the wealthiest investor, I ditched their sheltered nest and set off with my own agenda.
This summer is my chance to begin again.
Fulfill the dreams that were previously ignored.
The adventure starts at a secluded cabin in the middle of nowhere.

That’s where I find him avoiding civilization.

Nash Hudson is a broody recluse holding a major grudge.
With stormy eyes and a perpetual scowl to match, his dark mood tries to steal my sunshine.
I take his hostility personally, only to discover he doesn’t like anyone.

Little does he realize that my stubborn streak rivals his.

As it turns out, Nash is the tortured hero my love story is missing.
Too bad he’s very reluctant to fill that role.
Thanks to a little luck—or a strike of lightning—he’s forced to face me.

I’ll break down his walls as if this soul searching depends on it.
Or maybe I’ll end up getting lost in him instead.

"Let it burn."

"Let it burn."
Lost in Him takes the tall, dark, and broody recluse to a whole other level! This is a slow burn, angsty, opposites attract romance that I could not get enough of! I absolutely love Harloe's writing style & how she draws you in from the very beginning. On the outside looking in, Nash and Penelope could not be any more different; however, they are much more alike than what may seem. Leaving her sheltered life, Penny is determined to reinvent herself and make her own decisions. She finds herself in a small town, middle of nowhere called Hacken, Minnesota renting a cute and quaint cabin for the summer. Here she meets her tortured hero, appropriately nicknaming him "Thorn." Nash has appreciated his solitude, steering clear from society for the last seven years until he gets a glimpse of Penny. She is complete sunshine to his dark mood! Nash is used to loneliness and being left alone, not expecting Penny to turn his world upside down! "There's a fire between us, Darlin'... what do you wanna do?... Let it burn." I completely devoured this book! If you love small town, grumpy/sunshine romance where the heroine is set on breaking down the hero's walls; read this now! You will not be disappointed!

Lost In Him was everything I didn’t know I needed in my life right now, and then some. GAH!! Nash and Penny’s story is an unforgettably swoony and emotional tale that is sure to stick around in your heart and mind long after you have read the last page. This book tosses the ultimate blend of genres your way combining grumpy/sunshine, slowburn, forced proximity, and plenty of fist clenching angst just to name a few. Get ready to pull an all nighter if need be because I assure you…You’re gonna be “ Lost in this book” until you have devoured every single syllable. Nash Hudson and Penny Blair are utterly addictive and I fully admitI’m completely OBSESSED with them.

Penny is truly an amazing character. If you read Screwed Up (Bayside Heroes Series) you might remember her backstory from when she was Dr. Larsen Belle’s patient. If you have not read Screwed Up, the highlights are mentioned. But Screwed Up was awesome so I would recommend reading it anyway If you have the chance. Anywho, Penny has not had an easy go of things in her life up to this point. She is trying to move forward and change her situation. Take charge and control of her own life. So she rents a cabin for the summer in the woods of Minnesota. She’s strong, brave and sassy for going like that on her own. Feisty and fierce when honestly she rightfully could be the opposite because of everything she has been through. I just loved how from the get go she was obviously blown away by Nash’s gorgeous looks but she saw him beyond that, she could tell that like herself he has been through some stuff, and she knew he needed her, he just didn’t know it yet. I loved that even when he was gruff, or sarcastic and sometimes even down right mean she seemed to see the emotion behind his eyes. The guilt for lashing out at her.
The way she pushed him, or pushed back when he pushed her was next level PHENOMENAL!

BACK OFF LADIES! Nash.Is.MINE! He is 100% my favorite of all of Ms. Rae’s book heroes. He came right in with his moody and broody, broken recluse self, that only loves his dog, and STOLE this country gals heart. The beautiful but annoyingly sunshiney new tenant for the summer, Penny captures his attention in a way no one ever has before. She annoys him as much as she captivates him. The more she shows up the more he tries to drive her away. Until he just gives in and things change for them in ways neither expected.

The banter between them, the burn and the build up. 🔥🥵🔥 I was on fire. Words just don’t seem adequate enough to convey just how deliciously naughty this slow burn was. Nash had such a dirty mouth and I couldn’t wait for him to unleash it. All.Over. Penny. 😈

The character growth in this book was “chefs kiss💋” fantastic. The way what they both had been through in their younger years impacted them. How they both responded to their trauma differently, but they each brought something uniquely special, their own love language that was the exact healing balm needed for the other's heart. 🥺🥺
This story is original, the characters relatable, loveable, and unforgettable. Nash and Penny’s journey will take you on a roller coaster of feelings. You will be frustrated and then fanning yourself. You will laugh, cry, swear, and swoon. You will hang on every scene and get so caught up you will forget you're not actually in the book. You will just love every single moment. I promise you Lost In Him will give you a bit of heartbreak, leave you with a little book hangover, but you definitely get a HEA!! 🥰 FIVE! My new FAVORITE Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

When Penny's parents try to marry her off to a business partner, she think it's time to reject the princess life and take off and live life as she pleases. Her adventure starts at a secluded cabin in the middle of nowhere, literally. She'll spend the summer there. Her landlord is Nash Hudson, a grumpy recluse who has crossed off "peopling" from his daily life for the past seven years. His dark moods will not steal her sunshine.

Nash has avoided human contact as best as he can. He spends his time making exquisite furniture with his sidekick, Rune, his dog. He is satisfied with his life... until he sees her, in her underwear, dancing her little butt off. All it takes is one storm to bring them together, but events from the past might bring them apart.

Penny is an interesting heroine. Though coming from wealthy she embraces "the simple life" with glee. Nash is the quintessential broody, sexy hero who hates everyone but Penny  (even Penny in the beginning!). Their romance is a slow burn, but then it bursts into flames. Penny is a virgin and I like how her first time was not romanticized as it usually is - it was fumbly, painful and awkward and Nash, who was completely unaware of that detail, tries his best to make up for it when he finds out.

The book is basically the journey these two make to each other. I only wish wet had a lot more backstory for both of them. I was also a little confused as to why Nash thinks he is so underserving of Penny's love. His reason for living in seclusion didn't mesh with this self-loathing he shows for the whole book.

All in all, a swoony story!

Narration: I picked this one up for #moorvember and Samantha Brentmoor killed it! No surprise here. Her Penny is perfect and her male voices are scary good! She's accompanied by some unknown guy, this Jacob Morgan guy who is not too shabby. ;)

Possible triggers: toxic relationship with parents, mention of loss of parents

Overall this book wasn't really great for me, just ok. While I did like Nash, his back story makes no sense. POSSIBLE SPOILER: the details of his parents death are given very late in the book and when we get them my first thought was "that's it? Why would that drive him into a life of silence and solitude?" It was lame and childish. And just reaked of poor little rich boy.

Penny...oh Penny. I actually loathe her. She's bratty and not in a good way. She has issues with her parents who I guess are controlling and uber traditional, not sure since we only get one scene with them in the first few pages and a lot of vague mentions of past issues but no real detail. We also get a mention of a phone call with the mother that Penny says was very negative but no idea what was said because the call was only mentioned, not described. She then basically treats Nash like she says her parents treated her, not listening to what he wants and ignoring anything but what she has decided she wants. She's awful.

Overall this book has lots of different things happening that lack detail or depth and you get no resolution with anything. Nash shows some growth but Penny does not grow in any way. She gets her way in the end.

My main issues with this book revolve around the lack of detail and story. Even the sex scenes are mediocre even though there's lots of mention of being "filthy" it never actually hits that mark. This book felt more like a first draft than a fully fleshed out book. I don't know if I'll try another book by this author. This one is a two thumbs down👎👎 for me.

Nash is a gruff loner who stays on his land and doesn't talk to people. He decides to rent out one of his cabins for the summer
Penny rents said cabin for the summer to find herself, and gets more than she bargained for.
