Love at First Crepe: A Romantic Comedy (Sweet Escape Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 117 ratings

Who knew a delicious crepe, a kung fu attack, and an unexpected love could create such mayhem. In Heidi Renee Mason’s humorous romantic mystery, an easygoing chef soon discovers life can become complicated when you’re busy falling in lust and foiling murder plots.

Born into the wealthy Simpson family, free-spirited Willow is determined to make her own way in life. Cooking is her one true love, and she is content to keep it that way. Romance has never been on her agenda, but she suddenly finds herself in the middle of a deliciously decadent love triangle. With two gorgeous men vying for her attention, she vows to keep her distance from both, but the tantalizing chemistry is hard to ignore.

Unfortunately, it seems that someone wants to get rid of Willow, making her already tricky situation that much more difficult. One crazy night changes everything, and Willow’s life is turned upside down. Between thwarting her own murder plot, keeping her divinely tasty admirers at bay, and trying to stay on the good side of her finicky cat, Omelet, Willow’s plate is full. With far too many cooks in the kitchen, will she be able to stay alive long enough to figure out who wants to kill her?

H.R. Mason is an Ohio girl transplanted into the Pacific Northwest. She is a people watching introvert who can be found hiding out in the nearest corner. When not writing, she loves rainy days at the beach, old houses and antiques, researching family history, reading, and getting lost inside her own thoughts. She is a lover of caffeine and a hopeless romantic at heart. A multi-published author in the Romance genre, she moved into new writing territory in 2019 when she crossed genres. Nothing Hidden Ever Stays, her debut Gothic Suspense novel, became an Amazon bestseller.

Holy Sweet Deserts!!! Love at First Crepe is so funny--- so many laughs, and so many surprises. There were only two problems--all the food talk made me hungry and then they had to visit VooDoo Donuts. OMG!!! I really want a donut. Enough food talk, time to talk about Love at First Crepe.

Willow maybe a coffee heiress, but her heart belongs to her independence and and her brand new crepe food truck. She is off to a great start with her forever bestfriend, Tate, giving her support and encouragement. From day one she is making a killing. Sounds easy enough right?

But what is life would out a few challenges or attempted murders? If that isn't enough, Tate has competition for Willow's heart. Marcus caught her eye at the coffee shop. Marcus helps save her from the masked man. Marcus is prime competition. Oh and guess what??? Marcus is a Portland Police Officer--a man in a uniform, all that alpha protector vibe. When he is hired to protect Willow, Tate has to wonder if he will ever get rid of him.

Some of my favorite laughs involved the hate triangle between Willow, her wicked stepmom, also know as former classmate, Elizabeth (Awkward!!!!!!) and Elizabeth's best friend, Cinnamon. And that is just the beginning. Get out your scorecard. This one wild ride of who done it and who makes it as a couple.

Of course, the story was predictable, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. I found it pretty well-written, and quite a few funny parts.

A little mystery, a love triangle and touch of comedy....this is a perfect read. I couldn't put it down and was almost sad to see how close to the end of the book I had gotten so quickly because it meant saying good bye to characters I had grown attached to. Heidi Mason does an excellent job bringing her characters to life, and with the book set in Portland, OR (literally my own back yard) her descriptions were so clear that I knew exactly where everything was taking place. Even if you aren't familiar with Portland, you will be by the end of this book.

Willow, the main character, free spirit and "go-it alone" attitude comes into question when two handsome and caring men work to save her from a murderer. Everyone has a story and a heartbreak in their past and she is no exception. However, this heartbreak for Willow seems to have taught her that love isn't in the picture. However, Willow learns to follow her heart and learns about love, not just from one of these handsome men but from others in her family as well.

This is a most entertaining book! I hope to meet these characters again. I strongly recommend this book!

I have read from Heidi Renee Mason in the past and I truly enjoy this author. From the sounds of the synopsis, I thought I would get along pretty well with this book. I will say this was fast-paced and funny, I read it in all in almost just one sitting and got quite a few laughs. The writing was strong but sometimes I felt almost too lighthearted. I found myself asking a lot of questions after the first murder attempt that weren’t addressed and almost made it just a little un-believable. Now, I’m also a big fan of thrillers so possibly more light-hearted mysteries are no longer my thing, which makes me sad, but I just had trouble connecting to the actual mystery part of the plot. Everything else – the romance, the secondary cast, the flow of the story – I thought was fun to read. If you are a fan of light-hearted, almost humorous-type mysteries, I really think you would enjoy this one.

I loved this book! Not only do I love crepes, I was captivated by the characters. Quirky willow is delightful and who could resist the two hunks – Tate the fire fighter and Marcus the cop. The only thing that could make the story better was the addition was the addition of Omelet – that fabulous little cat! The story line never stalled, the plot was edge-of-your-seat worthy and I could not put it down until I reached the last page. I do hope Mason brings back Willow (and Omelet) in a sequel. She’s just too good for only one book. I’ll definitely be recommending this book to all my friends.

Stephanie Plumb and Kinsey Milhone make room for another independent, determined and loveably interesting new woman in the delightful neighborhood populated by fictional and often funny heroines--Willow Simpson and her cat Omelet. Mason's best book yet. Well written with a captivating plot full of all sorts of characters it is definitely a book you won't want to put down once you start. A light read but immensely enjoyable. Prepare to set aside an evening with Willow as she faces danger, love and conflict with a side of crepes in the city of Portland, Oregon! It will be time well spent!

Absolutely loved this book! I can definitely relate to Willow's love for leggings and I want to steal her cat. That thing is awesome. Tate is a dream come true. I mean who doesn't love a hunky firefighter? The love triangles in here make you switch sides for a few chapters, which is great. A police officer and a fireman vying for your love...a girl can only dream. I loved the humor in the story. Willow tends to lose clothes at the absolute worst times, which makes it all the more funny. I look forward to reading more from Heidi Renee Mason.
