This is the first in a brand new series by Dianne Harman!-it is a winner!!
This is the first in a brand new series by Dianne Harman! If this first in series is any indication it promises to be a winner!! Dani Rosetti is truly happy with her life--she is single and has no plans to get married-ever! She has been the chef on a very popular TV cooking show but has decided to start a VIP catering service so she can travel to places she has always wanted to and still be a chef! She has a brother who she doesn't speak to. Then she got a call that her brother died and left behind a little girl--a niece Dani never kbew she had--and he left instructions that Dani was to be named guardian! As you can imagine Dani is frantic but dhe decides to abide by his wishes. Her body guard and her soon to be Sou Chef and Dani go to get the little girl at the airport. Once they get home and get settled things start to happen--- I really want you to read this one--you will love it. Lots of twists and turns as they try to discover who is trying to kill Dani who is an independent female who won't give up her independence but does take in a little girl and forms a family!!

This is another excellent mystery by my favorite contemporary mystery authors. She writes mysteries that fit the cozy mystery category in that they can be read by people who dislike gratuitous sex and violence, or by preteen readers with good vocabulary. But the plots and characters have much more depth than some cozy mysteries. So you have the best of both worlds, elaborate, tightly plotted mysteries that will not offend even easily offended readers. I am only moderately easily offended, but some of my friends and family have much higher standards and I would not have any problems recommending this book to any of them.

And her plots rival the plots of many of the all time great mystery writers. The results when they are revealed at the end clearly fit the clues that have been provided throughout the story, but the results are not obvious enough for me to guess them in advance. I often reread books by this author just so that I can see how she provided enough clues for the ending to be believable without having me guess the whole answer or even most of the answer, although I occasionally guess a few small parts of the answer, which I enjoy doing.

So if you enjoy Agatha Christie, Arthur Conan Doyle, G. K. Chesterton, Earle Stanley Gardner, and other great mystery writers, and want a change of pace from short, simple, "cozy" mysteries, but are not a fan of "horror", this is one of the best current authors that avoid both extremes.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of horror books that have nothing else going for them, which do not interest me at all, unlike well written books that have some elements of horror.

Fortunately there are lots of cozy mysteries and some of them are well written and interesting, and I have given many of them four stars and a few of them five stars, but it is really hard to write a shorter mystery extremely well, so I am delighted every time Dianne Harman releases a new mystery. I know that I am about to read an in depth novel with an intriguing story that involves a mystery that meets my high standards.

I wanted to like this a little more, but I felt it was a little short. When I was done reading, I felt a little as if I was left hanging - but I guess that's the point - so the reader keeps reading the next cozy mystery to follow up on Dani, the jet-setting fancy schmancy high end chef. Dani and her constituents live a pretty privileged life: private jets, guest houses for the hired help, a private security/sous chef, and access to resources - but with that privilege comes bigger problems. In short, Dani becomes a target and several people want to kill her. The plot doesn't get into deep detail, it's basically a tale of bad jealous people who hate her and want her dead. In the meantime, she has been awarded guardianship of a niece who she has never met. As an almost pre-teen she is sweet and blends well with Dani in spite of the hardships she has endured. Since Dani has access to resources, the newly blended family falls into place without relationship turmoil and growing pains. As the story develops, the bad guys try to kill Dani a few times. Although the story was short and there wasn't a deep mysterious whodunnit or plot, I enjoyed the quick read. I also liked the inclusion of two fun dogs that belong to Dani. I'll be reading more of her adventures.

I love this series and Dani Rosetti, the chef to the stars. It's so interesting how she becomes involved in murder or murder attempts with her high-society and monied catering clientele. There is interesting travel, her newly acquired niece coming to live with her, a sous chef, also a former Navy Seal and her bodyguard. The characters are real and relatable. This is the first book in a very good series. I've read most of them, and loved every one of them. They are not your usual formulaic cozy mysteries.

A well known TV chef who starts her own catering company is given custody of her 10 year old niece and has her life threatened. Interesting story, but I felt the niece was too mature for her age. This one brought in a jealous potential sister-in-law along with a former sous chef who didn’t get her own cooking show. Dani’s life was in danger. The premise was good and was a quick read.

Dani and her so use chef / body guard Arthur are set to cater a huge dinner at the famous St. Regis Hotel. Things go terribly wrong and Denies life is in danger. Arthur has to find the culprit, help Dani find a murderer and keep everyone safe. Full of excitement and ends with great recipes. Good read!

Dianne Harman is a favorite author. One of her writing methods I enjoy is that she starts her books with introducing her readers to the characters who could be the villains. Then we sit back and watch for any hints of who is the actual bad guy or girl. The characters are well developed, and the mystery is unique. Bravo!!

It was like watching a movie and the power went out. Some loose ends were not tied up. I think if the author was a bit less prolific and thought out her endings she would not lose readers like myself.

A relatively light hearted story where the different factors blend well together. The end doesn’t leave you an a cliff edge just wanting to know what happens in the next story.
This book being about a renowned chef I wouldn’t have given recipes using cake mixes though ! .
