A Mail Order Bride For Franklin (Brides Of The Coloma Gold Rush Book 2) Kindle Edition
Coloma, California – 1850
Sheriff Franklin McQueen and his son, Geoffrey, work tirelessly to keep the town of Coloma safe from bandits and other nefarious villains. A few years prior, Franklin’s beloved wife, Gladys, passed away; now, the sheriff longs for a new wife on which to bestow his love and care--and with which he can better run his jail house.
After placing an advertisement in the newspaper for a mail order bride, he begins corresponding with a young woman named Miss Louise Winchester. Remarkably, she is the spitting image of his late wife, and the two seem to be a perfect match.
When Louise arrives in Coloma, however, things are not quite to her liking. She feels overwhelmed and out of her depth while helping in the jail house, and comes to believe that she may not be the right sort of woman for Franklin after all.
When she finally begins to feel at ease, it turns out that one of the bandits has it in for her.
Can Franklin keep his new bride safe from harm?

- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2017I enjoyed reading the clean but exciting and romantic experiences that individuals endured crossing from one side of the country to the other.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2017As with all mail order bride books I read, I enjoyed A Mail Order Bride For Franklin. Many of the characters in the book were the subject of other similar books by Charity Phillips but it isn't necessary to have read them in order to follow along with Franklin and his son Geoffrey. When Louise answers his ad searching for a mail order bride, Franklin knows right away that he wants to meet her. Many things in mail order bride books often times seem unrealistic, for example the speed with which the couple falls in love and marry. But it wasn't uncommon back in the days when finding someone to marry by placing/responding to an ad was oftentimes the only way it could be done. This story is no different. They write, they meet and they marry.
When Loiuse arrives she is rather dismayed to realize her new home actually shares the same building as the town jail, with it being separated only by a door. She's apprehensive about living so close to criminals but makes up her miNd she will try to get used to it since she was told about it beforehand and she wants to be supportive of Franklin.
It's a light, easy read, great for starting and finishing during those times when you want something to read before going to bed without having to sacrifice sleep in order to read it all in one sitting.
I received this ARC for review consideration. I read the book because I enjoy historical romance and Charity Phillips never fails to deliver.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2017A man out west had lost his wife ,his son was sickly and he needed help with the boy along with being lonely. He posted an advertisement for a Bride where a nurse saw the advertisement thinking it was a way to escape the memories of the war. After arriving with her Mother she was pleasantly surprised by what she found. A must read for those who enjoy historical western romance kindle books from Amazon at a special price and from a delightful author who keeps me wondering what next for the characters. The last of the book was a collection of stories about people finding real love after traveling across this great country for a new life.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2017This is my first read from this author and I can honestly say I enjoyed the story tremendously.
Never a dull moment between the scenes, which were fleshed out beautifully.
I loved how the author took the time to develop a relationship between the hero and heroine in a realistic way. Nothing was rushed. It all happened in perfect timing.
If you are a fan of sweet Mail-Order bride stories with action and realistic developments then you will absolutely love this story. I highly recommend this one.
*I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.*
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2017I really enjoy the mail order bride genre and I alway find that Charity Phillips does them well. However, this one seemed a bit bland for me. Franklin was a sheriff and his 16 year old son helped him as a kind of unofficial deputy. Louise answered Frank's ad for a mail order bride. She had a hard time with the fact that the jail was attached to his home. They had their challenges to overcome before the ending. It was an interesting story, but I didn't think it was up to Ms Phillip's normal fare.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2017I received this book in return for an honest review of it.
I love mail order stories and this was one of the better ones. I can't imagine wanting to marry someone who looked like my dead spouse though. I suppose that it may have its advantages but? I don't really know what they would be. Well anyway this is a very good book to read!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2017yet again charity philips has treated us to a thoroughly good read. these 'bride' books are well worth taking the time to read. they give us a look at a time gone by and some history too. they can be a treat at the end of a difficult day or read while travelling- however you wish...they are a joy. the characters are good and the settings and story-line are excellent. give yourself a treat and start reading charity's books. i received this arc for review consideration.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2017I read this book as an arc read for an honest review. I enjoyed this book as I learned a thing or two of being a sheriff in a fairly new town. Sounds dangerous and exciting at same time.
