Made Mine: A Protectors / Made Marian Crossover Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 3,456 ratings

What happens when a group of tough vigilantes meets up with a big-hearted family with boundary issues?

Reese:
It's supposed to be an easy job. You know, the kind you get after you've been gone a while and the boss is unsure of how capable you still are? But then there's a mugging, an abduction, two thugs, and a blackmail scheme.

And smack-dab in the middle of it is a beautiful lost soul who needs me. The scared, young gamer-geek pushes all my protective buttons and awakens something inside me that's ready to dive right in and inhale the man.

But how could I have anything to offer someone like Ben? I'm a mess. Injured, scarred, practically closeted, the recognizable son of a famous man... There's no way I can ask him to give me a shot at forever. Right?

Ben:
It seems like I've been looking out for myself my entire life. Heck, I was even given away the day I was born. And, yeah, maybe if my adoptive parents had survived, I would have had a nice life. But they didn't. And I don't. Instead, I'm forced to put up with a hateful, scheming foster parent for the sake of sticking around to care for my little sister.

Only, when a blackmail plan lands little Georgie in the hands of thugs, it's clear I'm her only hope. At least... until I meet the big, strong bodyguard someone sends to watch over me.

Reese is everything I've ever daydreamed about: protective, attentive, affectionate, and dedicated. But he's hiding something, and I don't have the time or energy to figure out what. Because time is running out, and Georgie is the only family I have left.

Until the biological brother who never wanted me shows up and turns everything on its head.

After having finally accepted it's just Georgie and me, suddenly falling for my protector and being surrounded by Griff and the Marian clan makes me question everything I've ever known about myself and what defines a family.

Can a guy with a broken past ever build a family with someone who seems too good to be true?

***Reading Order Note***
CAN BE READ AS A STAND-ALONE.

While the authors recommend reading both the Made Marian series by Lucy Lennox and the Protectors series by Sloane Kennedy, it isn't required in order to understand the story. At the least, you may want to consider Grounding Griffin (Book 4, Made Marian series by Lucy Lennox) and Unexpected (Book 10, The from the Protectors series by Sloane Kennedy) to get a little bit of background. However, this novel, despite being a crossover, has been written in a way that it can be read on its own.

An amazing read.
Wow this book was amazing. Reese is the Presidents son and he has just reconciled with his father Everett and has tried to keep under the radar. Whilst Reese works for Ronan his next job is to shadow a young man who has been beaten badly and released himself from the hospital and when Reese finds him he is being confronted by some men and it looks like Ben is in trouble again. Reese takes it upon himself to care for Ben until he can find out why these people are after Ben. When Reese finds out what the problem is it is much bigger than expected.

Made Mine was just....everything! I loved it so hard. For those who don't believe in love at first site, they need to read this. I was in love with Ben before the end of the second page. I have Floved every novel and short story written by Lucy Lennox, and while I'm, to my detriment, unfortunately not as acquainted with Sloane Kennedy's work, YET, I know from their previous collaborations, beyond a doubt, that she is also amazing. With that in mind, I will say that you should have at least read Grounding Griffin before reading Made Mine. Made Mine is a crossover of the Made Marian stories and the The Protectors stories. Again, I haven't had the pleasure of reading any of The Protectors, but I didn't feel lost not having done so. Had I not read the Made Marian series, especially Grounding Griffin, I would have been lost and not gotten nearly as much out of it. I'm sure, despite how much I loved Made Mine already, and even though I can't imagine how it could be possible, I would have had an even better experience had I been familiar with Reese's story and all of his supporting team's. So I highly encourage you to do yourself a favor and read both series, which will be no hardship, and then fall in love with Ben and Reese in Made Mine. Or, again, at the very least, read Grounding Griffin.

The easy fun writing style, the literally laugh out loud humor, the sexy, the quirks, the small touches and moments, the sweet lovey-dovey sappy melt-your-heart squees, and the pull-on-your-heartstrings but doesn't bring you or leave you down in the dumps touches of life, plus so much more is what has made me fall in love with these authors and their men. Made Mine has all of that, and while I've fallen in love with all of Lucy's couples/characters I don't know if I fell quite as fast as I did with Ben. From the first page he called out for love and my heart happily gave it to him. Reese is his perfect compliment and equally as lovable. I don't have words to express how much I loved catching up with all of the Marians. This story was twofold amazing because there is the romance of Ben and Reese that gave me all of the happies and feels, and then there was catching up with the Marian clan, which alone would have filled me to bursting with joy. (I can't wait for the audio to come out because I'm dying to hear Michael Pauley handle all of that craziness!! :D ) So yeah, it's been a week since I've read the arc and I'm still gushing inside writing my review while waiting for Made Mine to finally go live so I can purchase it (despite already reading an arc!) and share with the world how much I love this story and hopefully encourage you to read it for yourself.

Written in dual first person POV. Decent amount of M/M sexy times. Little bit of humor. I read the Made Marian series first (as well as the first two Wilde books) and then read this one when I realized that one of the two main characters (Ben) is Griff Marian’s long-lost brother. The plot was fairly predictable but easy to follow. My biggest issues were with the reason behind Ben’s anger to towards Griff as well as the reasoning behind and the resolution of the assault and kidnapping. There are lots of minor characters to keep track of and while it’s not necessary to read either the previous books in the Protectors or the Made Marian series, I think that it helped me to at least keep the Marian family straight (pun intended).

    ******Spoiler Alert********
I bet this was a hard book to write.
On the one hand, you have an existing character from the Protectors Series that has struggled most of his life with his sense of self-worth due to lack of affection from his parents. He suffered from misplaced anger and pain brought on by a manipulative b$#@h of a mother (I'm glad she is dead). He battled the sheer loneliness brought on by his inability to have a personal relationship without damaging his father's reputation and bringing himself into the limelight (a place he detests). Add to that the disfiguring scars he acquired during his last mission, and you have a whole cauldron of negative emotions that Sloane Kennedy had to stir thru to bring the reader a well-rounded character that we can relate to and for which we will feel sympathy. The author addressed some of those issues in Book 10 of the Protectors, but the residuals are still present in Made Mine.
On the other hand, Ben, being a new character, was a blank slate except for his separation from his blood family at birth. His character seemed to me to be strange in his ways of thinking until I remembered that Ben was heavily medicated through the first half of the book. I think Lucy Lennox did an excellent job of building his character when it had to be, at the least, interesting dealing with a drugged main character. Now, I love all of the Marian family, so it was hard for me to see Ben berate and hate them out of hand. But the author led me to the point where I could understand and commiserate with the young man's perspective and genuine pain.
The first time I read Made Mine (yes, I've read it twice already), I felt that there was something different about the Lucy Lennox/Sloane Kennedy combination. With the previous books that they collaborated on, I could tell that each author was responsible for a main character. I did not get that feeling this time. I kept expecting from Sloane Kennedy the edginess and harsh reality that I saw in the Twist of Fate series. I also expected the sweetness, humor and lovable personality that Lucy did so well in that series. I think that there were constraints on both authors, who were coming from such different mindsets and existing worlds and characters. I applaud their efforts to merge the two worlds and give us something that was needed by both of these two very damaged men. Ben gets the loving family that he has wanted but needs to feel protected. He gets that in spades from Reese and the rest of the Protectors. Reese receives support, respect, and acceptance from his Father and colleagues, and his need for love and nurturing will be satisfied by Ben, Georgie, and the Marian family.
Both authors are, without a doubt, very talented and committed to giving the reader a well-written, interesting and personality-rich offering each time. Even though the lines are blurred between the two styles this time, I truly enjoyed this book. I laughed, I cried, I got angry, and I rejoiced. I think that is all that matters in the end. I had all the feels, and it felt good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two lives collide...one family is born!
Reviewed in Canada on September 5, 2018
I am a big fan of both the Protectors books and the Made Marian books, so it was wonderful to have a crossover book involving characters from both series'.

Ben has felt alone all his life, he just wants someone to love and take care of. He finds that in his foster sister Georgie. Reese is the son of a former President, who is working his first job since being badly injured during his last job. He wants to prove to Ronan and the Protectors that he is up to the job.

They both collide when Reese 's job is to protect Ben.

The story has lots of action and suspense and family drama. It was great to see members from both series interact with each other to keep Ben and Georgie safe.

    Well done!

I can't tell you how much i love these authors!! They hit the spot every time for me. I've read most of Sloane's books but i hadn't read Lucy's. So before i read this i wanted all the info and dived into the Made Marian series. Well that was one of the best ideas ever because i binge read them in days and afterwards i needed more! Thankfully this bad boy released and my need was fulfilled as well as my need for more Protectors!!!

This is Ben (from Made Maria series) and Reese (from Protectors series) story.

Ben is lost and alone. Ending up in the city he knows his long lost brother is in making matters worse and Ben is in a bad way. Beaten and broken and looking for his sister he is all alone. His good for nothing step dad is gone and he has no one to help him look for her. He discharges himself from hospital because he knows time is of the essence and he needs to meet the people who have took her. Still on pain meds and not knowing where he is, Ben is in danger. He's vulnerable and no one has his back. Just when it looks like he's about to be beaten again a stranger steps in.

Reese is still in recovery from the burns he sustained. Months and months of rehab have left him feeling useless and low. He's never been able to be who is because of who his father is and so his confidence is at an all time low. Ronan gives him a job to keep and eye on Ben without letting on it's Ben's long lost brother who has hired Ronan to look after him. When he spots Ben leaving the hospital he follows. Ben is nearly attacked so Reese has to make himself known and look after him. He knows Ben is hiding something but Ben is keeping his cards close to his chest. Still drugged and vulnerable Reese decides to try and make Ben trust him so he will tell him what's going on.

Ben wants to trust Reese but his sister's life is at risk if anyone finds out she's missing. It's not only that but he has feelings he has no time for while his sisters gone, but there's something about the mysterious Reese that draws him in and makes his lips loose.

Reese desperately wants to help Ben but he won't let him in. It doesn't help that he finds Ben attractive. He's never felt such an attraction to anyone but because he's low on confidence and knows his scars are ugly he knows Ben wouldn't look at him that way so he's determined to help the young man.

What follows is lots of action, rescues, protection and love. After that comes reconciliation that if you're a fan of both these series will make your hear soar!!!

This duo's writing just draws me in every time. They could re-write the phone book and i'd buy it!!! Bloody love them!!

I fell in love with these two. The vulnerabilities of both of them broke my heart. But when they finally get together it's absolutely perfect. They heal each other and give each other the family they have been looking for. Both of them had very different childhoods, but both were equally alone. They were perfect for each other.

It was amazing seeing some old faces from the Protectors series and i have to say as usual the kids stole the show! Little Jamie is such a cuteheart!! And of course little Matty and Leo make appearances. Then there are all the faces from the Made Marian series. They're all in here!! My faves of course Granny and Irene and Aunt Tilly!!

The mystery and suspense had me buzzing all the way through, The love and sexy times heated me up, but the sense of family made me smile the biggest!!!

I have three recommendations for you. Firstly this book!! Go get it it's amazing. Secondly The Protectors series, it's brilliant. And Thirdly The Made Marian series which is fantastic. In fact just read anything these two have put out there. I'd go as far to say they are my fave M/M romance authors ever!! !
