“Madeleine’s Ranch” by Tessa Stockton is the kind of Romance Novel you go out of your way to find. Kind hearted and soft, it warms your soul and makes you smile. I am not sure about you, but that is the way I want to spend my afternoon – and what I look for in a ‘feel good’ story.
Madeleine Gentry is a 47 year old ranch woman in the Land of Enchantment, the great state of New Mexico. She has a ranch with her brother in law, Ed, a ranch she lost control of when her alcoholic husband passed on 2 years before. Now she is fighting for every scrap of independence and life she can find, Ed wants the land – all of it. He has already taken the house and most of the property, shoving her to the guest house. Years before they moved off the cattle and brought in Buffalo – a fact that pains her even as it costs men and money to bring them home when they roam.
Emotionally lost, yet determined, Madeleine trusts her faith yet feels deep pain in the everyday. When she meets Dan Longfeather while out riding, she finds her heart isn’t as dead as she thought. After he saves her and her horse from a bear, the handsome man finds work at her ranch – and starts looking after her too, even though she fights him every step of the way.
This is an inspiring story that keeps you reading. I love that Madeleine is in her 40’s, along with Dan. True love can come late, but it can come – and it’s beautiful.

I love the southwest and books that use this area as a setting hold a special place in my heart.

Madeleine's Ranch is a well-written and inspiring book about a woman who is going through some struggles and is unsure which way to turn or in whom to trust. There is the possibility of some help, and hope, in the form of a handsome Native American man and that part of the story is very touching. I also appreciated the vivid descriptions of the scenery and the adventure and intrigue that were thrown into the story (I don't do spoilers).

This was a fantastic and uplifting read for sure and I look forward to much more from author Tessa Stockton.

Madeleine Gentry is riding her horse, Sonny, through the Pecos Wilderness of northern New Mexico. Lost on horseback, she encounters a bear - a mountain bear. Native American, Dan Longfeather, appears just in time. Dan changes Madeleine's life forever. "Madeleine's Ranch" is an intriguing, suspenseful discovery of Madeleine - she finds herself and learns that she can shed her brokenness and begin again. Madeleine's journey is well-written, captivating, and recommended reading; enter the Land of Enchantment with Madeleine.

Romance is not my usual reading. I really enjoyed the setting and the intriguing way the romance progressed. I think my mother will enjoy it also.
Thank you Tessa for several evenings of reading when I didn't want to put the book down and get some sleep!
