Magic Brew Kindle Edition
Something bad's about to go down at a supernatural gangland summit. Being part Djinn gives Edge a razor-sharp ability for knowing what’s ahead. It’s why his gang, the Forsaken, is undefeated. But this time he’s plagued by a vague, supersized case of the dreads.
Sure enough, the brown stuff hits the spinning thing at the summit. The gang’s been double-crossed and Edge finds himself at the center of an ancient power struggle he never knew existed. Now he’s running with what’s left of his gang through enemy territory thick with bloodthirsty gangs of shifters, witches, vamps and demons hunting them for the bounty on their heads.
Good thing Edge has an angel sitting on his shoulder–albeit a depressed one–because it looks like it’s going to be a hell of a night.
If you like The Mortal Instruments and A Modern Faerie Tale, you’ll love this fast-paced urban fantasy.

About the author

T. Rae Mitchell is an incurable fantasy junkie who spent much of her youth dreaming up worlds and bringing characters to life. While most kids outgrow such things, T. Rae didn’t and she sometimes took playing make-believe a bit far. Like the time a wizard hid a bottle of dragon beans in the back yard and left her son convinced he could grow his own dragons. Needless to say, the beans failed to produce and disappointments were had. That’s when T. Rae decided to funnel her crazy imagination into writing young adult fantasy.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2015The wide range of powerful misfit that are either pure bred or mixed bred overpowered this unique gang story. Gangs? All takes place in the vicinity of New York City, a summit of all gangs in New York will gather. but something goes terribly wrong, two separate being joins forces and havoc errupts. Got to get back to Coney Island where the 'Forsakens' home turf is safe and sacred grounds, which they control. Now the travel back to Coney (southwestern Brooklyn) right there made this story the thriller and adventure I certainly enjoyed. The abundance of characters and let me tell you I made a mental note of who and what they were and to top it off their unique abilities is mind blowing. Did I get confused at some point? Maybe a tad but I found myself so absorbed in the intensity that I dismiss that hiccup and moved on. This one particular gang called the 'Forsaken' a tight knit and uniquely bonded group of colorful characters of half breeds. You have, Djin mixed with something and this something is part of the mystery. Besides the Djin, you have various demons mixed with pixies or witches or warlocks, vampires. Japanese Oni demon, okay that really got my interest. Shadow walker, fire elemental, selkies, goblins, gnomes, so much and so good. That is not the half of it, the gangs, well . . . well . . . well . . . Deathwalkers, Wraiths, Shifters, Bonegrinders, Shamrocks, Red Dragons, Mechs, Pink Ladies, Carnies, of course I cannot leave the Bad Hat gang out of this mess and if you read the story you will know the reason why. Each gangs have gnarly abilities that you would not wish upon your worse enemies. After reading what they could do goosebumps crawls all over my arms, eek! The struggles the protaganist 'Edge' endures, being half Djin and half?. Okay what's up with the other half, the essence of this story is based on the other half of his hereditary gene. Edge knows one half of what he is but the other half will dumbfound him so much so it might change the course of events or will it? The Forsaken is a misfit of a gang but what binds them together, the pain, the banishment, the rejection and abandonment? All the above but friendship and belonging equals family. So much more to read and so much will unfold that this story will leave a smile on your face like it did to me. You will have your moments of displeasure and pleasure and you will feel their disappointment and their pain and lost, sniff . . . sniff . . . shucks the water works will happen. The author eloquently wrote with such flair and vigor to make you feel and believe and I truly did. Now I must confess I saw a movie that was made in 1979 called the 'Warriors' uncanny similarity but the difference the mythical creatures and paranormal vibes. No matter, because I was entertained. There's more to the story but I will leave it up to you to read it, I cannot write anymore on this review or else a novel of a review will be displayed. Thank you to the author for giving me the opportunity to have a free ARC digital download, oh yeah I ordered my digital download when it comes out. Thank you, Darlene Cruz
- Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2016After reading the 8 book series, "Fate's Fables" bring T. Rae Mitchell, I had to follow up with, "Magic Brew" - the book that supposedly made the character Fate a famous fantasy author. It is wonderful stand-alone story, and the author weaves the tale together in a way that makes the reader not want to put the book down until you've reached the end. Seriously, I spent all day reading this book, alienating myself from my family until I'd finished reading from cover to cover. I have to say, there had better be another book coming soon, because I NEED to know what happens to Edge, and whether or not he meets his father and frees his mother!!! And what happens to the rest of the characters, Maddox, Sienna, etc.? Mitchell, please don't leave us hanging!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2015T. Rae Mitchell's latest story, Magic Brew, reminds me of a favourite Cornish prayer from my childhood. "From ghoulies and ghosties and long-leggity beasties and all things that go bump in the night, may the Good Lord preserve us." Mitchell has come up with an amazing cast of ghoulies and ghosties and other magical characters in a story that grabbed me from the first page and didn't let go until the excitingly unpredictable ending. Edge is a strong, smart, larger-than-life hero who battles evil with just the right touch of humanity - even though he's a mixed-blood djinn. I found his story irresistible.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 21, 2015Magic Brew is a fast paced, imaginative and totally captivating novel from start to finish. At first I was surprised by the sheer number of supernatural characters--each with their own unique abilities--but I soon bonded with them and rejoiced and mourned in their victories and losses. I especially liked the kickass pixie, Nyx. (the words kickass and pixie not often seen in the same sentence)
I'm definitely looking forward to more works by T. Rae Mitchell.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2020I felt throughout the story it was building towards Edge meeting his father or saving his mother but it fell flat. I just felt like there were alot of loose ends that needed tied up. What ultimately happens to Maddox? Does Edge meet his parents? Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed reading this, and the Fate's Fables series---still a good read, just wish the ending came full circle.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2016This book was actually better than I thought it would be as I have been reading books with heroines instead of hero's. Magic Brew was a fantastic read and even tho I was never sure what would happen next it would be totally thrilling. The ending was awesome and unexpected. I hope there are other stories with Edge and the gang. Thanks T. Are Mitchell for this fabulous book. If you have not read this book I strongly urge you to rest it.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 3, 2018I generaly don't write reviews as I believe everyone is different and just because i did or didn't like something doesn't mean everyone else will agree.
However I found this book to be one that I enjoyed very much, and to respond to a request in the authors notes I would like very much to see a sequel, thumbs up T. Rae you have a new fan.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2016Didn't enjoy the writing style and lost interest. May pick up the book later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Writing
Being offered the chance to review the book of someone you know is an honour. It can also be uncomfortable. What if you don't like it? I strongly believe artists need to hear the truth, not be patronized with a pat on the head & sent on their way. Awkward if the novel, painting, pottery, song is a dud. I needn't have worried.
I'm not going to give a synopsis ~ that's been done. What I will do is roundly applaud this second offering by T Rae. Although the tale is always important when one chooses a book, equally crucial is the skill of the writer. Nothing is more annoying than being ripped out of the story by grammatical errors, sloppy dialogue, lazy story line, weak characters, repetition of words...the list can be endless. T Rae approaches her Magic Brew world and the folks who populate it with the same care, professionalism and dedication as Ann Rice or Stephen King. Without a doubt she has the chops to reach that level. I was so very pleasantly surprised with the flow of the plot and storyline. I did have a couple of "AH-HA! THERE'S a mistake!" moments only to realize that the error was not T Rae's but mine. Dang.
A great story, poorly written isn't worth the ink for the printer.
But this is a really, really well crafted book. The tale's a dandy too! Congrats T Rae!

5.0 out of 5 stars An action-packed race/chase through a New York full of magic and chaos
I love stories with action and adventure, so this story was a huge win for me. Vivid world building and vast and varied characters combined with seemingly unbeatable odds turned this story into a thrilling but also nail-biting race/chase through New York. The magic and chaos were woven in with just the right blend. My favorite characters were Nyx and Pandora - two sisters with unique strengths and weaknesses who more than hold their own against challenges from enemy gangs and the super-powered (and super-troubled) guys in their own gang. Loved the ending!
