- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2014I have to admit I was surprised once I realised that this story was based on a current movie. I enjoyed the similarities of the movie but some how found I didn't like that I already knew the ending and what was to happen before reading but the story itself was written well and thoroughly enjoyed.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2015As a 79 year old romantic, I have always been an avid reader and written my own love stories in my secret diaries and entertained my high school friends with gift writings which I never kept a copy. In high school and college I was a prolific letter writer to pen pals and boy friends. (Sometimes in long, long rolled up tubes with pasted on cartoons added from magazines.) I wrote a book for children and typed it on primer typewriter, which was never returned to me --- but I was graded A and given an A for the creative writing class. I wrote a family history for my father's father landing from Sweden to Mobile, Alabama and had news pilctures of the ship to back it up. I found a lady who at sixteen knew my grandfather at her mother's boarding house. I really need to rewrite this history. I have written many short stories about my maternal grandfather and his strong influence on my life and memories. All have been accepted favorably by listeners and readers.
My early goals were to write children's books and teach music. Instead, I taught school 34 years , married and had four beautiful children.
I DO WANT TO TELL YOU HOW MUCH I ENJOYED YOUR WRITING. IT CAPTIVATED ME . I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. IT IS NOW 3:30 am and I must tell you now or at 79 years old I may forget. or put this aside as I have always done with my writings, giving them much less value than I should have all my life.
Whistler's mother did not take up art till her 80th year so it is not too late for me to seriously write. I have promised one of my six grandchildren that I would write my memories and dedicate it to her. She loves my tales and my dancing .......another story there. I am a devoted Mardi Gras Ball and parade street corner dancer here in Mobile, Alabama. Another series of memories.....for stories.
I hope I have not rambled past your interest . I write what I think, not for your enjoyment but for my own. Forgive me Nancy Jean Miller.....nmiller1135@gmail.com.

*** minor spoiler ***
Yes, it's a HEA (it's a romance, after all) but the H shirks all his responsibilities to be with the h- which seemed like a cowardly way to end the book. After introducing the reader to all the people depending on the H to support them, I was shocked when the author chose to end the book with him leaving them all behind to be with the h.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2014If you like historical love stories, you will like Masquerade. Although it is a little different from JS Taylor's other books, it is well worth the read. It gives you a great perception of what life was like for all classes in old England. Would like more of Elizabeth and Edward's story.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2015Good author, with a well written romance. Another 'new' kindle author I'll be buying books from!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2015This book is a scene for scene copy of the movie "Pretty Woman". It is just short of plagiarism as far I'm concerned. The lead is even named Edward in town to buy a ship. The friends sport car is substituted with a high strung thoroughbred horse that he can't manage in town. (seriously?).
The lady in question comes to his aid and leads the horse (in this time period, humiliating) and he even dismounts and lets her ride (drive, just like the movie). She mounts unassisted in a full length dress with petticoats and rides astride. RIDECULOUS!! Another chapter of this unbelievable copy cat writing and I had enough. I got it for free and it wasn't worth the price. RENT the movie instead.

3.0 out of 5 stars Reworking of a Good Screenplay
Considering the author had the story already, she made a pretty good job of adapting the modern to Regency times. The writing is slick, the characterisation good and of course the lead is a very Pretty Woman.

sorry to be so hard, but the story is far from original. Some reviewers have pointed out similarities to pretty woman, I think that the only difference is the historical setting, the hero is even called Edward, the heroine is called Elizabeth Ward (Vivian Ward in the movie) he meets her on his horse instead of the ferrari in Piccadilly instead of Holliwood Blvd, he wants to buy a ship, her best friend is Kitty (Kit De Luca in the movie) need I go any further???? Also I have no idea where people get the idea this novel is set in the Regency era, when the description of the clothing - dresses with wide skirts, towering hairdos etc - is clearly Georgian, think Georgiana of Devonshire rather than Elizabeth Bennet. Really a poor unimaginative offering of a book.
