Melting For You: Neighborhood Shindig #1 Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 409 ratings

After his father’s heart attack, Isaiah Morrell gave up cooking in his own high-end Atlanta restaurant to return home to Reynolds, North Carolina, in order to help his father Thomas heal and to keep an eye on his business Neighborhood Shindig. A collection of food trucks and other small businesses, Shindig is a popular destination in this college town, but Isaiah longs for the fast pace of a big-city kitchen. Until he meets Joel…

Joel Fisher has been out of commission from a serious illness for the better part of a year, but now he’s ready to reclaim his life—except his apartment has been sublet, his partner is missing, and their shared food truck is stripped of everything not attached. In short, Joel has nothing. After an uncomfortable night sleeping on the food truck floor, Isaiah and Thomas Morrell give Joel an offer he can’t refuse: a rented room in their house, as well as their help creating a new food truck concept. Joel hates accepting charity, but he’s hit rock bottom and has nowhere to go but up.

Working with seemingly uptight Isaiah is actually pretty fun, and the pair bonds over a challenge to create a unique grilled cheese sandwich. Light flirting melts into a deeper connection neither man expects, but Isaiah isn’t in Reynolds for much longer, and Joel can’t get attached to the gorgeous professional chef. As Isaiah’s feelings for Joel strengthen and grow, he entertains the idea of staying in Neighborhood Shindig for good—but Joel hasn’t asked him to…

Welcome to Neighborhood Shindig, a friendly place where you can snack on a lamb kebab while getting your hair done, pick up your favorite herbal tea blend, and then go listen to live music under the pavilion. We’re happy to have you.

A.M. Arthur was born and raised in the same kind of small town that she likes to write about, a stone's throw from both beach resorts and generational farmland. She's been creating stories in her head since she was a child and scribbling them down nearly as long, in a losing battle to make the fictional voices stop. She credits an early fascination with male friendships (bromance hadn't been coined yet back then) with her later discovery of and subsequent love affair with m/m romance stories. A.M. Arthur's work is available from Carina Press, Briggs-King Books and SMP Swerve.

When not exorcising the voices in her head, she toils away in a retail job that tests her patience and gives her lots of story fodder. She can also be found in her kitchen, pretending she's an amateur chef and trying to not poison herself or others with her cuisine experiments.

A.M. Arthur reminds me every time why I can't stop reading their books. And here is another example of that. This is a quick, sweet read. Joel's life changed a year ago when his health declined and was set back a year on his food truck business that has been his dream for years. But it changes even more when he finally feels well enough to go back home to his business and on again off again lover, as he was staying with his parents while he recuperated, and finds himself homeless and his ex having taken everything they owned together except the food truck. He doesn't know what to do, but then he runs into Isaiah, someone he went to school with as kids but hasn't seen in a long time and is offered a place to stay and get back on his feet. Isaiah is a chef with his own restaurant in Atlanta, but when he gets a call that his estranged father had a heart attack, he goes back home to be by his side. He plans to take care of his dad as he is forced to semi retire while he's recuperating as running a big business is stressful but Isaiah plans on going back to his life in Atlanta when things settle down. But then Joel comes into his life, and as he starts to slowly mend the bond with his dad while also growing closer to Joel, he starts to have questions about where he's really meant to be. Joel is having one of the hardest times of his life and has been betrayed in the worst way so when feelings start to develop between him and Isaiah Joel is afraid of becoming attached as he knows Isaiah plans to leave one day. Yet even only knowing each other for a short time, these men felt a connection that they couldn't ignore, and they showed you that things happen good and bad, but it introduces you to new experiences and opportunities. They were there for each other and believed in each other, and it was beautiful to read. Their romance was sweet and deep but I also really enjoyed reading about Isaiah and his dad and them wanting to be better and have a chance to be that son and father that they haven't been in far too long. It's definitely a great read, and I'm looking forward to more books about Neighborhood Shindig!

If you are looking for a quick read that is sweet, funny and has a HEA, then grab this book. Isaiah comes home to help his ailing father, only to meet Joel who makes him conflicted about where his home is. Joel finally can go home after a long stay away dealling with an illness. Only to find his home gone, his business partner stolen everything and having to start over. Isaiah and Joel find a love of food and a healthy competition that draws them closer together. Only if they didn't have an end in sight. Isaiah and Joel are so cute together and the food truck community they are a part of sounds good and I can't wait to hear about their stories in this new series. Would I recommend this book? Yes.

Nice read. Low angst. Everyone very nice, polite, and well-mannered (except for the two villains- they are immediate and apparent). However, where in the world would you find a 25-year-old head chef in a high-class dining establishment in a major city? It takes years to work your way up to that level of expertise. I know this is fiction but I'm just sayin'.

    Four and a half stars

MELTING FOR YOU is the first in AM Arthur’s Neighborhood Shindig series, about a neighborhood collective that includes food trucks and other small local businesses. Joel Fisher owns one of those food trucks and is back in town after an extended absence to deal with a health crisis. Chef Isaiah Morrell is in town to help his father, the Shindig’s owner, recover from his own health emergency.

AM Arthur’s story is lovely, as Joel and Isaiah are able to build a friendship and more as they also find a way to rebuild Joel’s business, and restore other relationships. Looking forward to more in this series.

I can't wait to read the next books about the guys at Shindig. I loved Joel as a character. He basically gets kicked back down just as he was getting back up. Luckily Isaiah and his dad are there to make sure he is able to get back on his feet. All three of the guys need each other to help enrich their lives and help them change their lives for the better.

I really enjoyed this book and I'm intrigued to see who is next and to get to know the other food truck vendors at Shindig. I like the series concept and if the other books are anything like this one then I'm going to be super happy.

New beginnings, shared passions and discovering love create a delightful story! This is just a perfect novella in style and length. I really liked the dynamic between the MC's and how they all came together was authentic. The story-line was engaging and i loved the different personalities of the 'neighborhood'' and how their stories made a more interesting story.

The writing flowed beautifully and the characters were nicely drawn and well developed. Isaiah and Joel find their connection and i love how they set their pace and talked through their concerns and fears. I just really enjoyed these guys together from their banter to their steamy connections.

This is the first book in the Neighborhood Shindig series and i am so looking forward to the next book. We had some really good supporting characters introduced in this first book and there are several that i would love to learn more about.

This is a sweet, compassionate romantic tale involving dumped, homeless Joel Fisher and Chef, restaurant owner Isaiah Morrell. I liked the storyline, the MCs, the side characters, and the sexy bits. Even though, this is a somewhat lighthearted tale, there is just even drama to make it interesting. A.M. Arthur has created a unique world in “Neighborhood Shindig”. I must visit it again 😊

I love this author for their wildly romantic style. A reader can’t help but fall in love with the characters, and Isaiah and Joel are no exception. I loved the food truck theme and thought the challenges were sweet. Thomas was an added bonus and I just absolutely loved him. I can’t wait to read the next book in this entertaining series!

I loved every minute of this sweet tale, the food truck concept made for delicious story. Also I've always wanted to read a story with a Side couple but never came across any, this mentions it but doesn't go into much detail. The two main men are instantly drawn to each other, Isaiah who is the son of the owner of Neighborhood Shindig the park for all the local food trucks, and Joel who is returning after being very ill and sadly finding everything is different. A wonderful story.

I really liked the chemistry between the MC’s and the plot was engaging. Overall, it’s a well written book.
On the downside though, everything felt a little rushed. I wanted to spend more time with these characters and I ended up feeling a little short changed.
Nevertheless, I will continue with this series.
