Merry Measure (The Wright Brothers Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 3,272 ratings

Arlo Wright’s introduction to his sexuality came when he saw his older brother’s best friend, Jack Cooper, in his sweaty football kit. Unfortunately, he didn’t have long to enjoy the revelation because he promptly knocked himself out on a table.

Relations between them have never really moved on from that auspicious beginning. Arlo is still clumsy, and Jack is still as handsome and unobtainable as ever.

However, things look like they’re starting to change when Arlo finds himself sharing a room with Jack while on holiday in Amsterdam at Christmas. Will the festive spirit finally move them towards each other, or is Arlo just banging his head against a wall this time?

From bestselling author, Lily Morton comes a warm romantic comedy set in chilly Amsterdam.

This is the second book in the Wright Brothers series but it can be read as a standalone.

Whenever I start a Lily Morton book, I know it will be good. The characters will be well developed, funny (especially the snarky ones), and loveable (even the grumpy ones). The setting will be exquisite, and so easy to picture. And, most important, the story will be full of love, beauty, and and the most perfect HEA. So, when I started this book, I was expecting all of that. And yet, I was still shocked at how much better this book was at all of that. From the brilliant descriptions of Amsterdam's history, architecture, culture, and beauty, to the instant connection with all of the characters. I kept thinking that I need to find the other characters books, because I felt like I already knew all of them. But, this is a standalone (for now 🤭) and all of the characters are brand new. The love between Arlo and Jack is real and organic. There are no sudden epiphanies. And Arlo is easily my new favorite character. He's brilliant, gorgeous, happy, hilarious, and oh so wonderfully clumsy.

I absolutely loved this book! Arlo and Jack are perfect for each other. To say this book has everything is an understatement.: Love, snarky comments, evil ex, horrible parents, loving parents, protective siblings and friends, along with some seriously funny stories from past mishaps to an awkward dance to a Missy Elliott song all make this a great easy light hearted read when we can all use it. While I have openly laughed reading other books before, I believe I did it more while reading this one! Arlo is the best. He is funny, caring, sweet, charming and stands up for those he loves and would definitely be someone I would hang around with. Jack is also wonderful but not nearly as outgoing as Arlo, which works perfectly to balance out their relationship. The group of friends are fun loving young adults that love and watch out for each other. Some things other readers may call juvenile and that's okay. But even at 53 I still have the sense of humor of a teenager at times. Most of the time it is of a teenage boy! It is what helps me get through each day with my sanity after living through this year of unknowns.

Goodreads said I read this book 4 years ago but I’m so glad I got to read it again and review it this time. Reading Lily Morton is always fun, her characters are always so full of life and hilarity. Arlo fits this characteristic perfectly. Seeing him and Jack get their HEA after having to deal with Steven is a sweet topping.

I just love a Lily Morton story. Terrific characters, a beautiful yet fun story and hot sexy men.
Arlo is a sassy, witty man and has crushed on his brother’s best friend for awhile.
Jack is a large, strong man, a great friend and someone who survived his stuffy parents and heavy influences. He’s happiest when he’s with Tom and Arlo’s exciting family.
Jack tags along with Arlo for their flight to Amsterdam, where Tom will propose to his boyfriend, Bee.

On this trip, Jack and Arlo finally let each other relax and tell their true feelings, because Jack wants Arlo as well. Arlo’s the person Jack is most happy, at ease and comfortable with, despite his mishaps. These two guys are fantastic together.

They have fun with the rest of the group of friends and it includes drinking, food and sightseeing. Then, Jack’s ex shows up wanting Jack back, but no one wants that, especially Jack.

The snark and sass is funny and well written. Our guys have some awesome sexy times, and they learn more about each other. Plus they ditch the group to visit an art gallery, and more.

You’ll like the big proposal splash, and the epilogue which is one year later !
    I highly recommend this tale.
    Enjoy !

I loved this one. I fell in love with Arlo in the first book and he didn’t even make an actual appearance so I was really excited to read his story with Jack. Impossibly cute. I love the way the city is described, makes me feel like I got to travel too. Jack is so swoony and romantic while also somehow being entirely practical. He’s a very well drawn character.

It has been a while since I read a book that made me laugh as much as this one. Arlo is a clutz and a bundle of joy. How Mr perfect Jack and Arlo get along, you’ll have to read to find out. Very enjoyable.

The characters tend to be two dimensional and the story is pretty light on plot. The humor is broad - think klutzy Jerry Lewis visits Amsterdam with a fellow he has a crush on. At a certain point the clumsiness gets unbelievable. There is very little plot. Two young men harbor hidden feelings for each other, they find out and do the wild thing, obnoxious ex shows up, he's told to go away, our heroes do more of the wild thing. That is it.

But, where the book shines, is the escapist trip to Amsterdam. It is like a little holiday in book form. I've had a mild interest in visiting Amsterdam before reading this book, but now it is high on my places to go list. She describes the city so beautifully, the book should be endorsed by the city's travel office as recommended reading. (Obviously only for those who are comfortable with reading blow by blow accounts of bedtime antics... but granted it's Amsterdam... visitors should be comfortable with that sort of thing). To the book's credit, the sex scenes always forward the emotional journey of the characters. It was a light read, but significant as I will now be going to Amsterdam as soon as this pandemic is over. Preferably at Christmas.

Arlo has to be the most witty of Lily's characters and helped to make this book very enjoyable. I found myself smiling, smirking and sometimes chuckling aloud due to Arlo's sarcasm. His relationship with Jack is lovely and I loved the side characters of Tom and Bee.
Lily really can't write a bad book and this is another little gem.

I rate most romance novels a 5 if they don't have bad grammar and angst and entertain me. But now I wish I could rate this higher than a 5. This book and Arlo made me laugh with delight several times and more importantly it made my heart smile all the way through.
