MESSAGE in the FIRE: A psychic suspense thriller (Messages of Murder Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 3,111 ratings

Psychic visions are tricky things - especially from a woman in a coma
I find the murdered woman crumpled under a tree. Blood stains her back and her hands are bound. If I touch her, my psychic abilities will show me what happened to her. But I’ve lived through murders before and the visions leave scars. Fighting my fear, I touch her – and only see four names –
Addlynn Jeanette Claire Margaret.
The unmistakable cry of a newborn infant shatters the calm of the woods. Her body is wrapped around the tiny boy, impossibly small and fragile. I scoop up the screaming infant, and the woman moves to protect her son. She’s alive.
Alive, but in a coma - a complete mystery. The detectives, my brother and his handsome partner, desperately need information. I’m the only one who can communicate with the woman. Touching her hand in the hospital provides only snippets of her life. Terrifying snippets, like how she got the scar burned into the palm of her hand.
Visions are tricky things. The details float like smoke - lost in the haze. I can’t tell what she’s running from, but the woman’s terror burns inside me. I will find out who hurt her, and I won’t stop until I bring them to a fiery end.

Psychic mystery readers say, "I can't stop reading this series. The characters feel like friends and I worry what will happen to them. More please."

Enjoy this short excerpt:
I step around a large tree and I see her.
The woman lies on her side facing away from me, half hidden under a fallen tree trunk. Her torn nightgown glows bright against the darkened blood stains on her back.
Unable to look away, my eyes lock on the blood. Fear freezes me in place.
“Go,” the voice in my head commands.
Stepping carefully, I walk towards the body. Her long hair, braided in two blonde ropes lay tangled in leaves and twigs. The dirty braids upset me as much as the blood.
Plastic zip cables bind her hands behind her back, her wrists torn and red beneath.
Nausea washes over me and I want to run to escape the horror.
Swallowing hard, I step closer.
Curled on her side, wrapped in a tight ball, she seems so tiny, so exposed. My heart aches for the woman.
Jet sniffs curiously, looks expectant with his large puppy eyes. He shakes and whines, urging me to help. His adorable innocence a sharp contrast to the brutality before me.
I force another step, then another, and kneel next to her body. My knees crunch the leaves, the sound loud in the morning silence. This close to her, I can smell her blood. The metallic scent mixes with the earthy aroma of the woods.
I can’t bring myself to touch her. I’ve had visions of death before, and they scar.
My tattoo burns insistent, commanding me to touch.
Leaving my gloves on to dampen the contact, I slowly reach towards her shoulder.
An inch from her body, I snap my hand back.
“I don’t want to do it,” I plead to the sky. “I don’t want to see it.”
Tears burn my eyes and shame fills my heart.
The wind picks up suddenly, tossing leaves and dirt into the sky. It swirls around me, urging.
I obey.
My gloved hand trembles a breath-width from her shoulder.
I lean towards her and touch.
Addlynn Jeanette Claire Margaret
Nothing more, just the names.
I’d expected death, pain and fear. Baffled, I sit back on my heels.
Grandma's dog, Jet, pushes against the woman with his nose and licks her face.
The unmistakable cry of an infant shatters through the woods.

Good read! Really enjoyed the story, although Gabby is a bit childish. I enjoy her strong emotions and 'get out of my way' manner.

Lucas, he's really into her. Sweet! Preston, I am not sure about him. I guess the story will tell me more.

    Highly recommend this series.

When Gabby finds an unconscious woman who has been stabbed, wrapped around her newborn child near her grandmother’s church, she doesn’t expect her to be alive, or to set her on a path where she is determined to discover the girl’s identity, and what happened to her.
Using the gifts she has been given, Gabby finds herself knee deep in another mystery, and facing new dangers.

This book picks up a few weeks after the end of book one, and puts Gabby with a new mystery, and the same old tense relationships she has had with her brother and his partner Lucas.
As Gabby tries to find the truth, she also tries to find out how she can work with her abilities, and with the people around her. She faces a lot of discrimination along the way, but tries to stay true to the guidance of her tattoo and her faith.

An entertaining paranormal mystery, this is a standalone mystery but not a standalone book. It builds upon the events found in book one, and has a few mysteries mentioned that are ongoing.
This is a book that paranormal mystery fans will enjoy reading, with its hints of slow burn romance, ongoing mysteries, and a mystery completely resolved.

I've had this in my TBR for an couple of months. It is a story that sucks you in. I had to stop reading for a few minutes to turn on the dryer and for some crazy reason I was tapping my kindle screen like I was trying to pause it, like it was a movie. That's what it was like, I was so drawn into the story I was seeing it so clearly in my mind. The characters are so real, you'll want to kick her brother in the leg. When you read on you'll understand.
I didn't leave a comment on the first book because I had to get the next one.

I felt this. Not because of any similar situations, but because God calls to her, directs her, guides her, and teaches her to be a good person so she may help others.

Gabby, using her God-given gift, is able to see and feel what others are experiencing just by a touch. This helps her to discover what happened to a young, comatose, new mother.

I was hooked after the first book. Now I'm into the next in the series.
