Method Acting Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 1,845 ratings

Chase Soria

Every budding actor knows acting is a difficult gig. There will be grueling auditions and punishing rejections. If you’re lucky, there’ll be roles that pay the bills and even roles that won’t.

Roles we don’t believe in.

But that’s what acting is—acting as if we do believe in them.

So when the semester’s production project is announced and I’m cast as one of the leads, I’m ecstatic. A lot of responsibility, a lot of work, but I’m up for it. Even when I find out what my role is and who my partner is. Amos, the brooding James Dean wannabe, is my on-screen boyfriend. Which is great, except for the fact he hates me.

I can do this. It’s just acting.

Nothing more.

Amos Beddington

The 90s are back, apparently. 90210 and Friends, but with a reality TV spin, which means cameras following us around as if they’re capturing the everyday lives of Franklin U students.

Me, but not me.

Me, with no more than a character description, no script or screenplay. Method acting, being the character 24/7, not just when the cameras are rolling. With a campus boyfriend.

Method acting is immersive and intense, and it can be confusing if the lines begin to blur. I mean, I’ve dreamed of being with the irritatingly gorgeous and annoyingly popular Chase Soria, and now I have to be his on-screen boyfriend?

I’m a good actor, sure. But how can I be convincing when I’m not sure I can even convince myself?

Not for me

Not for me
This one wasn't for me. While I absolutely loved the concept of Method Acting, I was disappointed by the characters and the superficial plot. Amos and Chase are both drama majors at Franklin U, and for their senior year project, they are cast as one of the main couples of a reality TV-like production. The whole project is based on method acting, where they need to immerse themselves in their characters for the duration of the filming. I love this concept because it's pretty close to fake dating, which is my favourite trope. However, the lines blur almost immediately, which makes the relationship a tad superficial. Amos is a grumpy introvert who's not big on social situations. Chase is a sunshine baby with childish tendencies and not a single serious or committed bone in his body. They are basically polar opposites, which makes their Pairing very promising strongly building on the grumpy/sunshine trope. Their relationship is intense from the very first moment even though they are acting. What was a bit weird for me is that I really couldn't find an actual ac5ing phase that morphed into more. It was more like feelings from the very beginning, and they were both in colossal denial. I can't tell you why this bothered me so much. I like Amos's character. He is very relatable and tries very hard to establish some boundaries with Chase to keep his calm safety. However, Chase quite literally bulldozes right through them. There were quite a few conversations about consent, mostly because of the intimate roles they were playing, but I never quite got the enthusiastic yes from Amos. He went along with a lot of things because of the role that he would rather not do. And Chase took full advantage of it. I think Chase's overwhelming golden retriever energy was planned to be cute and funny, but for me, it came through as rather immature. (Clue melodramatic storming out at some point). It was never really explained why he is so commitment-phobe, other than he had no clue cuddling can be so much fun. And without the backstory, his behaviour is just childish. Amos, on the other hand, is the very positive voice of reason. He makes sure the communication is clear between them and that they are on the same page. It is a very mature thing to do. Other than their story, there is a brief subplot for their fellow co-stars, which is a lot of fun and a lot interesting. (I also kinda think the timeline of the story was messed up a lot.) Overall, this book had a few great features, like the concept and Amos's character and a few not so great ones, like Chase's immaturity and the superficial plot. This won't be my favourite book from the author, but it fits in the lighthearted world of the Franklin U series.

Method Acting by NR Walker is an awesome addition to the FU 2 series! I love the fake-dating, acting like boyfriends scenario. Amos is the emo loner and Chase is the witty, popular, & charming boy next door. For one of their acting classes, they must pretend to be established boyfriends.
It's such a fun story! The line between reality and acting is often blurred until they discover they weren't really acting at all!
Plus it's always good to see glimpses of the other FU couples!

When I first picked up this book, I had no idea. No idea what the tropes were, no idea what I was getting into and I was here for all of it.

I love the unique aspect of how these characters came to be a part of each other’s lives.
It was completely unique and I enjoyed every moment of being a part of their story.

Amos & Chase are actors, part of the FU drama community. They know each other but they aren’t friends.

Chase is the epitome of boy next door charm and charisma. Everyone likes him. He needs everyone to like him. He plays the part well. Underneath all that charisma is a guy who goes deeper than his good looks, and craves attention. He has no filter, he has no qualms and he has no shame. He is a bit of a chaos goblin and I love it. He is honestly the best.

Amos is the opposite, he’s the introverted “rebel without a cause” who isn’t a rebel at all. He’s a person who struggles with peopling. He needs to recharge more often than not and it makes him seem aloof, and unapproachable. A weapon he wields well. Unfortunately he’s about to have his orderly world disturbed by chaos. I understand Amos on a whole different level and watching him fall was perfect.

Have you ever wondered what would happen if a hurricane happened inside of a black hole? You are about to find out.

This book took me by surprise. I really love it. It took me awhile to finally read this book, and that’s really because I’m not familiar with the author, but I really like this fake relationship turn real, and grump/sunshine trope.

The novel picks up strength quickly after the initial chapters. The two leads fall into a familiar trope, but they are developed well enough that their relationship is believable. The drama professor is too much of a caricature than a character, detracting from the scenes in which she appears. Likewise, the bedroom melt-down scene is over-the-top and does not feel like a natural reaction by the character.

It’s no surprise I haven’t really been enjoying this series though I’ve read the entire thing. I actually started this book but put it down to read the one that follows it when it went live since I was looking forward to that story.

Only to realize after the fact I enjoyed this one way more and possibly the best one out of the entire series for my taste. Then i remembered who was the author and it made sense. She’s someone I really enjoy reading and has a way of story telling that really gets me immersed in the character and their development.

This is a fun, funny, and warm story. Amos and Chase are a great opposites attract couple. Amos is a true introvert who is also a bit of a misanthrope. Chase is a true golden retriever character, full of energy and in need of constant attention. As much as Amos protests Chase’s clingy-ness, he loves it. I kind of wondered at the end how their instructor was going to grade them on their method acting project because they were not acting, at all. It was a delight to spend time watching them fall in love while pretending they were just acting a part. Definitely one of my favorites from this season of the FU series.

“Emotional support tiddies” - enough said! This is the 7th book in the FU2 series. As soon as I started this I could not put it down. I finished it in a day! It’s kind of a forced proximity situation. Chase is the golden boy. “Generic Hollywood” if you will. Amos is known for being quiet and mysterious. They end up having to work together for their drama class’ project. Fake boyfriends while the cameras are rolling, what could go wrong? Maybe getting to know your partner a little too much and catching feelings…
Honestly such a fun read. I love seeing cameos from couples in previous books.

This book was amazing! The wit and the banter. The back and forth the two characters have bouncing off one another in their own ways. I love they didn’t change for one another but found their own groove and their own love language and how that works together! A beautiful story about acceptance, and love, and truth and being who you are

Chase and Amos are seniors in the acting class at FU and the big project for the year is a reality TV series where they have to use method acting. They are paired up as a couple, both not that pumped about it, Amos is quiet and broody and Chase is loud and charismatic. But Chase pushes into Amos’ bubble from the word go, being, as Amos calls him, insufferable.

The lines soon start to blur between their characters and themselves once they begin spending all their time together and ‘getting used to’ being affectionate - which becomes something neither wants to be without.

Chase is so adorable, cuddly and clingy, having always proclaimed that he will never do relationships only one off hookups. He starts to realize having a boyfriend could be everything he’s wanted and more. When their relationship becomes more physical the lines are basically no existent anymore - and the cameras rolling don’t seem to matter.

This story was so fun, I loved both of these characters, the silly conversations, their intimate moments and their care for one another was all so excellent!

    N. R. Walker is just amazing, she never misses.

This book was soo good, and I’ve never read anything quite like it. The whole method acting concept was very unique and original, and N. R. Walker did a great job at incorporating that in a college setting.

While reading this, not single time I was bored. The banter and chemistry between Chase and Amos were off the charts and kept me hooked until the end. And the best part is there was no angst and it still managed to keep me invested.

As for the characters, I loved both of them. Chase is our sunshine golden retriever, dramatic and over the top. While Amos, the brooding emo, keeps him grounded. They balanced each other out perfectly, and their love was adorable and gave me all the butterflies. I kid you not, I was grinning from ear to ear through every page. 😁

I highly recommend this. Even if you haven’t read the others in the series, definitely give this one a try. 🙏🏼🙏🏼

4.25/5 I’m not a fan of reality tv and don’t read many college-aged romances these days, but I trust NR Walker, and the blurb sounded entertaining, so I gave this a try and thoroughly enjoyed it. Chase and Amos are definitely a case of opposites attracting, and it’s only complicated by 24/7 method acting where “Dominic” and “Elijah” are pretended to be a long-standing couple. I liked how the filming gave them the chance to explore feelings they weren’t otherwise ready to admit, and to take a chance. I appreciated the real discussions about consent and comfort levels as they navigated the blurry lines of filming and intimacy.

I liked Chase’s friends and his octopus ways, and how he respected Amos’s introversion (though admittedly in his own way, lol). Amos not taking any of Chase’s crap was clearly exactly what Chase needed, and I liked how confident Amos was in his sense of self. I still don’t much like reality tv (lol), but I liked the overall message here and how the whole campus got into it.

I received an ARC from GRR. This is my honest review.
