4 1/2 stars. A very nice romance! Claire was an interesting young lady, intelligent and determined. Egon was a good man with some rough edges. The story had interesting characters and an interesting plot (although it was not dangerous or suspenseful). The book was quite well written, too. The only love scene was full of passion and love, but brief and subtle with the details. It was well done and I appreciated that. I look forward to reading more from this author! PS, every time I read Egon’s name, I thought of the Ghostbusters! 😎

This is the second book I have read from this author. I was again pleased with the engaging story. I liked Claire from the beginning, Egan grew on me as the story continued, from being rather harsh to much more relaxed and likable. It was predictable, but I am ok with that in a romance novel. The characters were entertaining, all having their own dramas and agendas, but it worked within the story as a whole, bringing a satisfactory ending.

This was a very good and fairly traditional romance. The writing was good enough that it didn't get in the way of the story. These days I find it harder and harder to find this in a book -- either there are grammatical mistakes that no one who calls himself/herself a writer would make, or the descriptions are tedious, or the style is too simplistic. This book was none of that, and I truly recommend it for Georgette Heyer and Joan Smith fans.

Some of the premise was good and I really liked Claire. Egon was “different.” He had moments of being super wonderful but mostly he was a jerk. Then like a switch was flipped and boom! He’s nothing but kindness itself to his wife. Also had a bedroom scene I had to skip.

This story was really well written. The author writes in a lovely Regency style, with some fun obscure words and phrases.
I especially liked the fact that this tale had some steam! I wasn't expecting any, but I dislike squeaky clean stories so that was an added bonus.
We have a plucky h and a doofus H who manage to make a mockery of a mock marriage. And a salty grandmama, just enough pathos and a satisfying, light read.

Highly enjoyed this one. I was afraid this would go into dangerous territories as most regencies with deception themes go, but this was quite nice from beginning to end - hero and heroine gradually get to know each other and fall in love. The hero, especially, was not an idiot who refuse to believe the heroine, but rather amended his perception of her through her actions. Secondary characters are nice too - everyone adored the heroine so there was little meanness in the story, which I heartily and wholesome endorse.

I loved this delightful romance between the Baron, Sir Egon, and sweet Claire, the actress, who fell in love after the marriage. She needed the money. He needed a temporary wife to secure his inheritance so they embarked on a sham of a marriage to convince his family. The supporting characters were very enjoyable and contributed much to the storyline. It was fun watching their relationship change and develop. Loved it!

Despite the unconvincing choices advanced to justify the circumstances and interaction of the H&H, the author's sheer mastery of style, pace and characterization make this recent effort a most enjoyable read.

A convoluted deception, abusive threats, dire financial disasters, and a false "mock" marriage. Although in fact it is a legal marriage. And the story goes on, with secrets, pride, and fears. Thank heavens it comes clear in the end! A charming story I'd love to see in a movie!! Several wonderfully detailed settings, a villain, manors and castles, a river... Sighhhh.
    Highly recommended!
