Moving Maverick: Made Marian Series Book 5 Kindle Edition
Maverick: I haven't been back to Rabbit Island, South Carolina, since my parents died and my grandmother, Mimi, rejected me. I'm only returning now to attend her funeral and sell an estate I never wanted. But the moment I step foot on the island and fall into Beau’s arms, I realize it might not be so easy to say goodbye after all.
Beau Talmadge was always the boy next door, but now he’s no longer a kid. The man is hot as hell and pushes all my buttons in the very best way. I'm supposed to leave in a week. Sell everything, close the door on my past, and walk away forever. So why am I letting myself fall for someone who lives thousands of miles away? And how the hell am I going to break it off when it's time to go?
“That I’d come back.”
Beau: It took one short summer to fall in love with Maverick Mitchell and fifteen long years to forget him when he left. I’d never expected to see him again, but when he shows up at Mimi’s funeral looking lost and lonely I can’t resist doing anything I can to comfort him. Falling into bed with Maverick is easy and the nights we spend together are as hot and steamy as a South Carolina thunderstorm.
I know it's not smart. I know it's not what he planned. But dammit, Mav belongs in my arms, in my bed, and in my life. So how the hell do I get him to stay?
“Took you long enough.”
Fair warning: Moving Maverick is a 73k word gay romance novel featuring sweet tea vodka, fancy salt and pepper shakers, guys catching crabs (not that kind), Aunt Tilly with a knife, and multiple detailed instances of man parts touching.
Moving Maverick is the fifth book in the best-selling Made Marian series. It can be read on its own but is much more fun read as part of the series. The series begins with Borrowing Blue and each book follows a Marian brother's search for his HEA.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2017I like reading. I like reading a lot. I've been reading for a really long time (several decades). But you know what? Unlike when I first started reading many many moons ago with a tender heart and fresh perspective, I've found that it's a lot fewer and far between that I fall in love, that when a book is finished I can't just simply move on to a new one, that the characters and their story make me feel warm and fuzzy and smiley all over and just stay with me for days and days later. That I look forward to right after reading, also listening to their audiobook so I can hear them come alive. That I also want to own them in paperback so I can hug them close and pet those pretty pretty covers. That in a couple of months or even weeks I want to re-read the story, not because I've forgotten, but because I remember. Moving Maverick is the fifth book in Lucy Lennox's Made Marian series and the fifth time that this has happened to me. I fall in love with all of her characters. I smile big cheesy smiles during all of her books. I laugh out loud and have been exiled from reading in bed at night when the SO is asleep. I've wanted to hug the hurt out of several of her men and in this book I needed a hug too. I want to be best friends with everyone in this family. The world needs the Marians'.
Besides lovable characters, stories infused with interesting little details about work, or locations, quirks, and endearing small casual shows of affection (massaging a foot or rubbing a calf while cuddling on the couch), humor and witty banter, intelligence and thoughtful motivations, I have been greatly impressed and extremely appreciative of the consistency in writing. These books have been coming out fast. I love that because of course I'm impatient to read another great story and fall in love again, but if I have to wait longer for a book in order to guarantee quality than of course I'd rather wait. But these books? they have not suffered one bit for how swiftly they've been produced. They are amazing, each one in it's own way, and that is a true testament to the talent of this author. I don't expect this pace to necessarily last, but what it has done, is reassured me that I won't be falling out of love with Lucy Lennox and her stories. I have a few authors I adore and if I couldn't read anything new by anyone else ever again, I would be just fine with only reading their stories because they have proven their talent and love for what they do. They are not writing to just write. They love and care for the subjects of their stories. I don't have to worry when the next book comes out in a series if it's worth the money. If I'm going to enjoy it. I know because of who wrote it. And Lucy Lennox is one of those few authors who fall into that category. Her books are must reads. Re-reads. Go to reads. Going out of my mind waiting to read. No matter how I personally feel, it will be a good time read.
I don't go into specifics of a story in my reviews because that's what a blurb is for. Because I know other reviewers will have that covered. I'm not looking to closely inspect and dissect the story. What I want you to know is:
Did I fall in love? Yes, my heart has been stolen.
Would I re-read? Absolutely! over and over.
Were there moments- sad, funny, sweet, fantasy fueling- that I replay? You betcha.
Was it worth the money? I've received each book as an arc, and I've bought each book anyway. This book is no exception.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2024This is one of my favorites from the series. Sweet, heartfelt, beau loved maverick for a long time and I’m glad he got his happy ending
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2021Oh the feels in this book - one minute I was laughing, the next I was swooning, then gasping, and then I was crying. The way the main characters’ feelings for each other were portrayed was palpable and heart warming. Maverick Marian is a veterinarian in San Francisco. He’s also gay and was adopted by the Marian family after living with a foster family following the death of his parents and the refusal of his grandmother to care for him. Beau Talmadge is a GC who lives on a small island off the coast of SC. When Maverick’s grandmother dies and leaves her estate on the small island to Maverick, he and Beau, who were childhood friends, reconnect. Thus the beautiful dance toward their HEA is restarted after a 15 year separation. There is a lot of past stuff that they both have to unpack on the way and this is portrayed perfectly with witty dialogue, characters with depth, and an engaging storyline. This was a swoony, hilarious, fun, sweet, steamy, heart warming story with low angst. I am still adoring this loving, quirky family and I am excited to read about the next Marion sibling.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 5, 2017My Review:
Overall: 4.25
Performance: 4.5
Story: 3.75
Hmm, this story...much like book #4 in the series, it seemed a bit inconsistent. First of all, what happened to Maverick was awful, and I totally can't blame him for being bitter about his grandmother's legacy. To be rejected like that by his grandmother after losing both his parents was horrific. My heart hurt for him...and it just seemed like there should be a bit more to all that...some sort of closure for his broken heart that didn't quite seem to play out.
Overall, I liked the story between Beau and Maverick (although I hated what Beau did early in the story to keep Maverick around). I liked their history, I was sad about their separation, and the salt & pepper shaker thing was kind of cute. It seemed like at the beginning of the story there were lots of jokes that just kind of fell flat.
This book takes place in the low country of S. Carolina and also had a lot of very southern little bits in there that seemed a bit over the top...like they were making fun of Maverick. But I did like the relationship between the guys. I liked Beau's business and how he leaves bunny (?) carvings everywhere. I even liked the appearance of the puppy at the end although that seemed a bit random.
The book has the same Marian characters, although because most of the book takes place in a different part of the country, they weren't quite as prevalent in this story. Something happened with Dante (Maverick's youngest brother) at the end of the story, so I'm thinking his story is next. Something is most definitely going on with him. I'm intrigued...
- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2018Lucy has crafted a wonderful sequence of stories (books) bringing a rich, interesting, funny and passionate legacy as we dig into each of the characters in the Marian family.
I’ve enjoyed each book. She’s given the characters real tensions, individuality, vulnerability and POV’s. Moving Maverick brings together the adopted Marian son Maverick with a long-lost childhood friend Beau. The reason this book is not getting 5stars, this story gets lazy and relies more on pornographic scenes than the sensuous characters. Don’t get me wrong, I love sexy and passionate, but this is not that.
Still a good story as you become hungry to get up close to the characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bless their hearts!
Bless their hearts! Gah! Another amazing instalment in this series.
Boyhood friends whose love never left even though it had been 15 years! So freaking sweet!
I loved em both. Beau was super cute and i loved him so much he was so all in and i loved he wanted Mav the second he saw him again. He also wanted what was best for him even though he sneekily tried to put off the sale of the house he knew he wouldn't really stop it. He just wanted the time to win Mav.
Loved Mav too. So responsible and level headed but also lots of fun. He had his heart broken just before seeing Beau again but he also felt it. He also knew Beau was the love he'd been missing.
I felt a little sad Mav was leaving the Marian crew behind but of course they'll always be there for him. Of course he'll start his own family now!
Once again, excellent storyline and lots of funny bits. Outside showers are the best! Lol One of my fave books in the series. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Favourite of the books
Maverick has come home to bury his Granny Mimi and sell the ancestral home, what he doesn't count on is Beau Talmadge his childhood friend.
Beau has been taking care of Mimi and her home for the last 15 years and doesn't appreciate Maverick wanting to sell it.
They come together thinking the relationship won't last as Mav is only back for a short time before he returns to his life in San Francisco. However Beau and Rabbit Island start to grow on him.
Like the other books in the series, great character development, plenty of heat and lots of cameos from the other members of the Marian family.
Loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loving this series!
This was such a sweet and heartwrenching story! Maverick lost his parent at a young age, and his only biological relative, his grandmother Mimi, wouldn't take him in landing him in the foster system and ultimately with the Marian clan. When his grandmother passes, he is contacted and told she named him heir to her estate. He turns up to the funeral and finds that his childhood best friend, Beau, is still in the tiny town and has been the Estate manager/keeper for the past few years, as well as looking after Mimi as her ALS got the better of her.
Neither expected to see the other, but Beau had secretly hoped Maverick would return. As Maverick is confronted with so many memories of his parents and Mimi's rejection of him, Beau steps in to help him cope with the emotional turmoil. Together they find something more - chemistry and an understanding that is off the charts.
The story flows beautifully and sees them work through many different issues, including how to make their relationship work. I loved watching them connect over different things, and realise what was important in life.
The Marian clan make an appearance and get up to their usual antics - I loved that it wasn't just Tilly, Granny and Irene who caused trouble in this book, but also the Marian siblings, including Jude which was a pleasant surprise.
I can't help but love this series, and can't wait for Dante's story. The crossover with the Forever Wilde series is getting closer too, so I can't wait for that one. Definitely a series I would recommend, as with anything from this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet
When you meet your childhood best friend for the first time in 15 years, things have predictably changed. For these 2 it have them a chance to grow up and realize what they truly had as kids.
The drunk scene between the 3 o!d ladies and 2 main characters was spool worth this read alone.
