    Alfie and his band of misfit detectives are back for the third book in the series, Murder On Stage. The murder mystery sucks the reader in from the very first page and keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for the excitement to end. The clever gang solve the murder and save the day just in the nick of time. I can't wait to join them for the next adventure.

    This book is a young adult mystery set around 1858 in London. Several poor orphans are drawn into solving a murder. Alfie, his blind brother, and his two cousins are hired to be a part of a riot at a theater, and Alfie sees a man killed on stage during the rioting. Because he tried to help the man, he's now the prime suspect of the police. His family and friends must do most of the investigating. There's one main clue, but how to find the 3-fingered man and prove to the police that he's the real murderer?

    Historical details about what London was like at the time were woven into the story without slowing the fast pacing. Suspense was created by the danger to the children (since young children were hanged for offences like murder). The characters were interesting and engaging. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this enjoyable historical mystery.

    Mit "Murder on Stage" hat Cora Harrison bereits den dritten Band von "The London Murder Mysteries" veröffentlicht. Wieder gelingt es ihr, ein aufregendes, spannendes Abenteuer zu präsentieren, welches junge Leser ganz sicher ansprechen wird.

    Auf 256 Seiten entfaltet sich eine faszinierende Geschichte, die im London des 19. Jahrhunderts spielt und sogar einen Gastauftritt der jungen Königin Viktoria aufzuweisen hat.

    Alles beginnt damit, dass Alfie Sykes und seine Bande Gratiskarten für eine Vorstellung im Theater bekommen. Doch statt einer tollen Aufführung erleben sie einen gewaltigen Aufruhr, fliegendes Obst und jede Menge Geschrei.

    Bei all der Aufregung sieht nur Alfie die Hand zwischen dem Vorhang auftauchen, die eine Phiole in ein auf der Bühne stehendes Glas entleert. Als er bemerkt, wie einer der Schauspieler aus dem Glas trinken will, eilt er in den Orchestergraben und versucht von dort aus, über eine geheime Falltür nach oben auf die Bühne zu gelangen. Doch als er dort ankommt ist der Schauspieler bereits tot. Vergiftet! Alfie versucht, sich aus dem Staub zu machen, doch man hat ihn gesehen und jetzt denkt die Polizei, er wäre der Mörder!

    Dieser historische Kriminalroman bietet ein rasantes Tempo, spannende Szenen voller Witz, Dramatik und Herzenswärme. Man folgt als Leser atemlos den Abenteuern von Alfie und seiner Bande, während diese durch Londons düstere Gassen hetzen, auf der Suche nach dem wahren Mörder.

    Auch das unheimliche, bedrohliche Gefängnis von Newgate spielt eine wichtige Rolle und die großartig beschriebenen Figuren des Buches, begeistern genauso wie in den beiden Vorgängerbänden.

    Gute Englischkenntnisse sind für ein ungetrübtes Lesevergnügen wünschenswert, doch stellt der Roman keine allzu hohen sprachlichen Anforderungen. Man kann dem Geschehen auch ohne häufige Zuhilfenahme des Wörterbuches problemlos folgen und die auf Dialoge ausgerichtete, flüssig geschriebene Handlung macht das Buch zu einem wirklich empfehlenswerten Leseerlebnis.

    Vom ersten Satz an werden die Leser in den Bann der Geschichte gezogen und die kurzen, zumeist mit einem spannenden Cliffhanger endenden Kapitel, laden zum Weiterlesen ein und machen es schwer, das Buch aus der Hand zu legen.

    Besonders Jungen werden sich mit den Helden identifizieren können, aber Cora Harrison gelingt es, durch die Figur der sympathischen und klugen Sarah, ganz sicher auch Mädchen für diese herausragende und wirklich großartige Serie zu begeistern.

Durchweg eine tolle Serie, die wirklich zu überzeugen weiß, gespickt mit interessanten historischen Details und sehr spannenden Kriminalfällen.
