Mutiny on the Potemkin: A thrilling naval adventure story (Marcus Baxter Naval Thrillers Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 214 ratings

An exhilarating nautical action novel! For fans of Dewey Lambdin, Patrick O’Brian, Chris Durbin, Douglas Reeman and Antoine Vanner.

Baxter finds himself involved in an infamous revolution…

Marcus Baxter may have survived one naval battle, but his troubles are far from over.

Despite serving with the Russian navy aboard the
Yaroslovich, he is arrested by the Tsarist secret police for conspiracy and sent west on the Trans-Siberian railway to St. Petersburg. Competing factions within the secret police disrupt his journey and he finds himself in Odessa.

Odessa, though, is in the grip of revolutionary riots and Baxter finds himself trapped in the city as violence and anarchy spreads.

The crew of the
Potemkin has mutinied, killing most of the officers and bringing the battleship into port.

When Baxter realises a friend is trapped in the carnage, he is determined to get onboard the battleship.

But will he make it out alive?

MUTINY ON THE POTEMKIN is the second book in the Marcus Baxter naval thriller series: action-packed, authentic historical adventures following former Royal Navy officer Marcus Baxter during the early 1900s.

THE MARCUS BAXTER NAVAL THRILLER SERIES:
BOOK ONE: The Straits of Tsushima
BOOK TWO: Mutiny on the Potemkin
BOOK THREE: The War For Tripoli
BOOK FOUR: The Guns of Zanzibar
BOOK FIVE: Vengeance at the Falklands

About the Author

Jonathan Johns is something of a rarity, being a Cornish audiobook narrator. His unique voice, found within his Cornish heritage, goes a long way in bringing stories to life. Fully adept in character dialogue, voices, and narration, Jonathan has the ability to draw in the listener.

Tim Chant grew up (mostly), went to school in East Anglia and university in Scotland. He took his history degree and did the only thing he could with it-joined the civil service. When not shackled to his desk he writes science fiction, alternative historical fiction, historical fiction, and any other fiction that takes his fancy. When not doing that, he's an inveterate roleplayer and wargamer (and getting back into historical fencing). He lives in Edinburgh with his partner and their two rabbits. The Straits of Tsushima, book one of the Marcus Baxter adventures, is his first historical fiction novel. As T Q Chant, he also writes science fiction, steampunk, and speculative fiction.

This book made me think of the current Russian and Ukrainian war. Sad how history repeats itself more often than not.

Not so much a naval story as a political one. Keeps you moving with the antics of Baxter. Could use some more naval action.

I had surmised incorrectly that it was primarily a navel ship story, however the ship was just a small part of the revolution

Marcus Baxter in the best tradition of dishonored naval officers certainly is heroic and capable beyond anyones expectation.
These are just great stories, waiting for the next volume.
    Recommend strongly

If possible, things have taken a turn for the worse for our poor protagonist Marcus Baxter. No-one to trust, and if it wasn't for bad luck, he'd have none at all. Another great adventure through a little known piece of history.

A good, well written, yarn. One or two annoying contradictions and too much "as luck would have it" but immersive enough to carry it through. Would definitely read another sequel.
