Review
"...My Raksha Bandhan: Promise to Protect by Priya Kumari and Komal Garg is an informative and educational book that explains why and how Raksha Bandhan, a Hindu festival, is celebrated. The story is a good and interesting way to learn about the Hindu festival and the culture. The illustrations are colorful and vibrant, just like the festival, and make the storybook eye-catching and captivating for young readers. The details about the festival have been explained in detail so that anyone reading the book will be able to understand about the festival of Raksha Bandha. It is a good book for parents and tutors to use for storytelling sessions so that they can teach their children about other cultures and festivals in an exciting and interesting way." - 5 stars Readers' Favorite
"Authors of children's literature Priya Kumari and Komal Garg are adept in promoting/inculcating joyful learning among children about Indian folklore, festivals, rituals and associated mantras by means of beautiful illustrations, imparting interesting visual and sound effects.....is immensely enjoyable.... Of special interest is the accompanying Raksha mantra or the protective chant recited while tying the sacred thread. It is this which brings out the story behind the 'promise to protect' festival and makes the event glorious. A glossary at the end explains the Hindi terms used in the narrative." - Ms. Sunita Dwivedi, Silk Road Traveler and researcher, Author of Buddha in Gandhara, Buddha In Central Asia, Buddhist Heritage Sites of India.
"...simple interesting way to communicate to young children salient details of our rich and profound family traditions, through stories from Puranas... I can call a genius product..." - Prof. Bhudev Sharma, Former Professor of Mathematics, Clark Atlanta University Atlanta, GA, USA, JIIT, Noida, India, Chief Editor- Jr. of Combinatorics, Information & System Sciences (JCISS), first President of Hindu University of America, Orlando.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2021Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseI bought this book as a gift from my son for his older didi’s for Rakhi. All the kids from age 2-8 loved it and they were all able to take something different from the book. For older kids, it has great in depth concepts including history and values behind celebrating rakshabandhan. For younger kids, they can still learn a high level review of the customs and enjoy the beautiful illustrations. Highly recommend this book to help add meaning to rakhi for our kids when they celebrate the festival.

This would be a great addition to that study. Oh and I love the illustrations, it makes the story really come to life.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2021Format: PaperbackIndians come in all shapes, sizes, and most importantly DIFFERENT COLORS!
Yet here is another book about Indian/Hindu culture for kids written by an Indian whose illustrations are most white washed Indians! The Indian obsession with “fair and lovely” has to end! It’s a disgrace! Meanwhile books on Indian culture for kids written by non Indian authors actually feature illustrations of Indians with dark skin and hair!!! How does that make sense!?!?
The author should be ashamed of herself but knowing her she probably is not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and informative
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI'm always on the lookout for books that can teach my child about Indian festivals. This book does that while making it interesting and entertaining at the same time. It managed to create a connnect with my 4 year old. The touch about tying a rakhi to firemen who protect us is very heartwarming. The illustrations are cute too. Overall i am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it highly.
