No Masters Or Kings: A sci-fi/fantasy adventure with a crew of misfits Kindle Edition
Born to be a queen, brought up a sky pirate. No castle, crown or wedding ring will hold her down.
Kai is running. Out of breath and out of options.
She stands on a landing pad wearing only a torn, muddy wedding dress and searches for a way out.
There is solace and safety to be found on The Magpie, with its misshapen, half-formed crew led by Captain Bucky Winters. He thinks he’s getting a cook in his new passenger but he’s getting so much more.
Kai isn’t the only one on board with secrets, and her secrets aren’t the only things chasing them. With money scarce, Bucky is forced to take a job from a dangerous man and if this job isn’t finished on time, he’ll lose everything and everyone he loves before he’s killed.
Can Kai outrun her destiny long enough for her new crew to finish this potentially fatal job?
No Masters Or Kings is the first book in an upcoming swashbuckling sci-fi fantasy series, perfect for fans of The Ketty Jay series and all the Browncoats out there.
'Great stuff! A really fun and funny read. A band of misfits on the run barely hanging on and just trying to survive. I can see the Firefly appeal. I literally laughed out loud a few times and that is pretty rare for me. Like Firefly, you can't easily classify this book. Part sci-fi, part fantasy, part mystery, part romance, and a decent amount of humor. Throw in a little western and pirate feel and you have a pretty powerful mixture.' ★★★★★
'The story of a crew of misfits, each with their own tales and secrets, had me hooked from the start. I was instantly invested in the characters and wanted to know more. The story moves forward in an exciting way, with the odd surprise thrown in! Looking forward to the next instalment.' ★★★★★
'Marvelous ! This book was great, I loved the characters ! I’m not exactly sure how this would be classified other than MARVELOUS !! I mean you have different genres so I believe this is in a league of its own. Misfits coming together to become a family, who are willing to do anything for each other, even those who just came aboard. Who says a ship (in the sky) can’t be a home. These misfits are lost or were lost at one time. Some are or were running from things or people. Love the suspense and action !! Very surprising parts and boy did I laugh !!' ★★★★★

- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2020A very elegant story that starts out being pure science fiction and then edges ever so slightly into fantasy. Like steam punk meets the Dragons of Pern. Plus A cast of the nicest pirates in the galaxy. Nice is an author to follow and I can’t wait to meet the crew of the Magpie again.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2019I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I liked the people; to me that's important. And I'm looking forward to the next story.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2019Author did a wonderful job creating the characters. A bunch of misfits working together on an airship. Trouble seems to follow them but as a "family" they can help and support each other.

Part sci-fi, part fantasy, part mystery, part romance, and a decent amount of humor. Throw in a little western and pirate feel and you have a pretty powerful mixture. The title, unlike most fantasy books ("The Sword of X" or whatever), actually fits the book. The first part of the book went a little slow for me because I was still learning the characters but the rest of the book was quickly absorbed in one sitting. I can honestly say I wasn't sure what was going to happen next which is another rarity, a lot of books telegraph what will happen early on. I figured out one key part, for the most part, but the rest was a surprise. This sort of ends on a cliffhanger but not really. The ship goes on deliveries from point A to point B. Like life, the story is about the journey, not the destination. This could be a series of books, like Star Trek, the possibilities are endless. I look forward to reading the next book. I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

5.0 out of 5 stars A slightly steampunk Firefly with action and witty banter.
No Masters or Kings has the feel of Firefly with the great characterisation, action sequences and a (mostly) believable, slightly steampunk, universe. I hope, unlike Firefly, this is a series that keeps on going. I want to know what future exploits the crew of The Magpie have as well as their back stories being revealed. I also want to know more about the ship itself, how does it work, does it have a history of its own... Without spoiling anything..What about other dimensions?
I really hope this is the start of something special.

5.0 out of 5 stars A solid enjoyable read
Thoroughly enjoyed this book!
The different points of view added depth and flowed together seamlessly, teasing at the mysteries but never revealing until time
I look forward to further adventures

5.0 out of 5 stars A fast-paced story that hooked me in.
The story of a crew of misfits, each with their own tales and secrets, had me hooked from the start. I was instantly invested in the characters and wanted to know more. The story moves forward in an exciting way, with the odd surprise thrown in! Looking forward to the next instalment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant
The story twists and turns as it picks up pace.
The characters are all so different but work so well together.
As with all JE Nice` novels there is a mix of humour, danger, romance and fantasy.
Can't wait to read the next book when it is released.
