Hello world, I'm Jemma Bell.

I released my debut novel Nerd Girl last year and released the follow up to it, Moxie Girl this past March. Nerd Girl and Moxie Girl are the first two books in The Modern Girls series.

I like my romance sexy with a little bit of humor thrown in and that's exactly what you'll get from my books. I love strong female characters, HEA, hot sex and mild angst. I got so sick of reading about wishy washy heroines that I simply HAD to create a series chock full of sassy chicks.

I have an unhealthy addiction to Goldfish, Milk Duds and Iced Coffee. I love 80's music and Romantic Comedies.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I'm the mother of three terrific kids and the wife to the man of my dreams. I met Mr. Bell at a country western nightclub and when I saw his Watermelon Crawl I simply swooned. His rear end looked fabulous in those Wrangler jeans as well. As the story goes we dated for a few years and got married. A few years after that the babies joined us and now we live the poster life of the modern suburban family.

I'm a stay at home mommy to my three and an avid reader. I had the opportunity to meet my favorite author at an event last year and she simply blew me away. A wonderful woman with a challenging past. Going to this event and meeting her inspired me to start writing. So here I sit a few months later telling you all about the release of my first book. You never know when inspiration will strike, but when it does run with it. It may take you to great things.

I hope you enjoy the fruits of my labor and can relate to my characters.

Awesome, wonderful debut for Jemma Bell!! I knew I just had to have this book, but after reading it..... omg you need this book!! I absolutely adore it!! This book has steamy, hot scenes (which made me need a cold shower on some), sweet romance, humor, heartbreak.... it had it all!!! I absolutely FLOVE Amy! She has no self esteem and a bland opinion of herself. She's just another nerd. And then, she gets a chance to meet her favorite cover model of the romance books she likes best. Derrick is running from the mob of "horny housewives and lonely bookworms." To say the least, Amy might be quiet, but she doesn't take anything from anyone. That's the first, and definitely not the last, that she gets riled up. I laughed so hard at times that I was crying. Chapter 11!! Just the thought of 2 grown men freaks out over a bug... its hilarious the way they act! I did want to jump in there and smack Mitzi around..no I take that back..i wanted to make her eat her teeth!! Derrick I wanted to smack around for being such an idiot, but you will have to read to get the full details ;) Oh, and Layla!! She's freaking fantastic!! I can't wait til her book comes out!! Jemma, thank you for such an awesome read!!

This is a really great debut story! Amy's quirky nerdiness is excellently written. She's a nerd, but not a wimp. She's shy, but willing and able to stand up for herself. Derrick is not really what I would call an alpha. He's kind of... an alpha-in-training, or a good potential-alpha, but he never quite makes that leap. He's still got the makings of a great book boyfriend, however!

The story is well written & there are so many laughs!! The first 60% of the book is full of the quirky, the sweet, the hilariously funny & moving. And then we get to the SOB portion (for those of you unfamiliar w/ my acronym, that would be the "seemingly obligatory breakup" portion). *sigh* First of all, Derrick's wishy-washy attitude about the reason for the drama was annoying. Secondly, we had their group of friends who wouldn't just come out & TELL HIM the backstory on the drama. The SOB portion lasted an unnecessarily long time, and when everyone started to come around, I had almost lost interest. It took a little bit for me to get back into the connection I'd felt w/ these two from the beginning, and that was hard. That's really the only thing that took this down from a 5+ story, for me.

The last 10% or so DOES redeem that feeling for me, but also made the ending feel a little abrupt. All in all, I would call this a cute, sweet romance w/ likable characters. I'm hoping there will be more to this series, as I'm looking forward to spending more time w/ everyone. So, overall, I do recommend this story! : )

When I start reading a book with a laugh where I end up snorting out loud and continue this throughout most of the book...you know it's a GREAT book. I got to read this on the way home in the vehicle and my hubby thought there was something wrong with me with as much laughing as I was doing. He kept asking if I was okay...I kept telling him he wouldn't understand...he never does!

Can I just say the the way Amy feels in this book, I feel the same way in real life most the time. I swear Jemma peeked inside my head and wrote this story. I honestly feel like I'm a "book nerd" most time time...but where's my cover model? I must have missed that part of my story!!! LOL!!!

I am SO looking forward to more from this series and definitely more books by Jemma Bell!!! Thanks for the excellent read! Jemma is now on my list of automatic one-click authors!!! Believe me, you won't be disappointed! You're in for the laugh of your life!

This book has so much potential, the plot sounds absolutely wonderful, but personally I just didn't feel it. I connected so well with Amy. Her character growth showed throughout the whole book, and I loved every minute of her. Clyde reminds me so much of my pup, Clay. Layla was a great best friend to Amy and I loved her character.
Derrick I just couldn't connect with. He seemed to not have any growth until almost the end of the book. Riven was a great friend to him.
Derrick and Amy fit together, but they didn't. In the beginning I had such high hopes for them, but there were things that happened that I felt shouldn't have.
The sex scenes were really good, and worked perfectly for them.

Derrick has no balls and little brain when it comes to relationships and women, in my opinion. There were a ton of moments that I felt he should have stuck up for Amy more often. I found Riven defending her more than Derrick and that's not how it should have happened.

The beginning of the book was very good, to me it seemed that he was starting to grow, but then an incident with Mitzi would happen and he wouldn't do anything about it.

The fact that he kept bringing up that he should replace Mitzi as an agent, and didn't, proved to me that he didn't really want to change anything.

Him claiming he did nothing wrong, irritated me to the point where I called him an idiot out loud.

Amy nails it toward the end: "Derrick and I never have a problem when it's just us together. When you bring outside influences or other attitudes, that's when we have a problem."

Another thing that bothered me was the repetition. There was a lot of "whiskey eyes" mentioned.

    <\Spoiler>

This book was highly recommended to me and I saw tons of people raving about it. I feel disappointed that I couldn't connect and didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

Some of the ladies in my Book Blog swore by Nerd Girl, they said every Book nerd should read it.

I wasn't too sure what to expect but laughing from the start wasn't it. I was sat there from the first chapter shaking my head, chuckling and thinking 'oh my word, that's what I would do.' I spent a good chunk of the book with a little smile on my face without even realising it. Amy Jenkins is a straight no nonsense book nerd but she does have self image and confidence issues. She literally falls for Derrick, the cover model and fitness guru, and the relationship progresses from there.

The book is fun and quirky, I was worried it would over focus on Amy's confidence issues but Jemma Bell approaches it from both characters and it feels a bit more real. You can't help but love both leads, cheer on for the two best friends and want Mitzi the agent to fall flat on her face or chip her perfect manicure.

About 50% of the way through I realised the story had progressed quickly but I was so caught up in the story I hadn't realised! Then I hit a point where I just wanted to slap Derrick and just floor Mitzi. I ached for Amy and got excited when she beat some of her demons. Honestly, I was so immersed in the story I couldn't put it down and didn't realise the other half had been snoring until I finished the book!!

Nerd Girl is Jemma Bells first book, and what a beginning, I cannot wait for the rest of the series to come out! If you want a fun, fast paced and intriguing read give Nerd Girl a read. It is a must read for any book nerd.

*Arc provided by author in exchange for an honest review*

Jemma Bell’s debut novel Nerd Girl kept me entertained and glued to the pages. Amy Jenkins is a shy girl so used to blending into the background and day dreaming about her book boyfriends, but when she finds herself in the men’s washroom and bumps into Derrick Walker a cover model she is left embarrassed and humiliated, whilst Derrick is left reeling from his encounter with the beautiful nerd girl whose name he needs to discover before the day is over. As opposites attract and Derrick throws himself into Amy’s world their chemistry is unmistakably hot and sexy, the humour will make you laugh out loud and have you gushing at the adorability and romance, whilst there’s plenty of angst on hand with two fierce best friends Layla and Revin ready to throw in their two cents. I loved seeing Amy transform from a nerd into a hottie tapping into her hidden beauty and confidence. I loved the dual pov getting inside Derrick’s head from his sweet thoughts to the moments I wanted to slap him upside the head lol. Well done to Jemma on her first release now I am excited to get my hands on Moxi girl which I hope is about the two best friends Layla and Revin.
