Not Her Gargoyle: Romantic Comedy (Not This Series Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 840 ratings

Welcome to New Port where shifters, witches, and vampires live openly next to humans working jobs, ordering take-out from the blood bank, and looking for love in all the wrong places.

Ruby is done with jerks, dead-end jobs, and eviction notices. Everyone else she knows is finding ways out of this crappy neighborhood, so why can’t
she? Since opportunities refuse to fall from the sky, Ruby makes her own. To hell with the little voice in her heart whispering about love. She never met a man she wanted to keep…then she met a gargoyle. Men were boring after all.

Nick was a con, a thief, and a rogue. He couldn’t keep a dime in his pocket even if it was glued. Then he met a ruby. Not one from the earth but one of flesh and blood. And ass. Let’s not forget the ass. Stealing her heart was now all he wanted. He has a plan that could make both their dreams come true. It only involves an itsy-bitsy risk. All they must do is rob a witch. Oh, and avoid the
dragons.

Warning: Beware of despicable gargoyles with hearts of gold. They will sweep you off your feet when you're not looking.

    Title: Not Her Gargoyle
    Series: Not This
    Author: Annie Nicholas
Designation: Book 5, Full-Length, *Can Be Read As Standalone, Paranormal Romance, NO Cliffhanger
    Reading Platform: Kindle Edition
My Rating: Five Delightfully Entertaining Stars*****
*Although the author gives ample backstory, this reviewer recommends reading the books of the series sequentially for maximum enjoyment and to avoid possible spoilers.

I love, love, love Not Her Gargoyle, the fifth outrageously cute release in the Not This Series by Annie Nicholas! I became completely smitten after reading Not His Dragon, the first delightful story in the series and became hopelessly hooked. I now await each new release with bated breath and once again, Annie Nicholas didn't disappoint! I snickered, snorted, giggled, and sniffled through the entire story but by the end, I was happy, satisfied and well entertained. Not Her Gargoyle is a sexy, fast-paced, easy-to-follow, full-length, standalone paranormal tale filled to the brim with side-splitting humor, endearing characters, heartbreaking angst, dreamy romance and of course, a heartwarming happy ending. The narrative is beautifully written in the third person with his and her perspectives. The dialogue is snappy, hilarious, well-executed, and flows effortlessly. No one appreciates a well-written story better than me, but no matter how great the technical components and execution, without a cast of great characters, it's all for naught. And that's what I love about the work of Annie Nicholas, she delivers the whole package, time after time. Each time I open a Nicholas book, I'm always assured a satisfying read, and Not Her Gargoyle was no exception. If you've been following the series, remember Trixie's protective older sister, Ruby, and the bungling gargoyle thief, Nick, from Book 3 (Not Her Vampire)? Well, they're back! Plus Nick's three brothers are in town so you can only imagine what kind of trouble they're up to. I felt so sorry for Nick and Ruby. Nick had been imprisoned and chained to the castle by Eoin for attempting to steal from him and causing Trixie's accident. Unlike shifters, Nick had only his gargoyle form. He could never pass as a human, but he really wanted to, so he could get a job and help beautiful Ruby. And poor Ruby...she was happy for her newly mated younger sister Trixie, really she was, but she missed her terribly. She was so lonely. All she ever wanted was to find a man who would love her and never abandon her. But once Nick and Ruby found each other, it was kismet - and shenanigan central! lol... And their sexual chemistry was smokin' hot! These two sweet, lonely free spirits were so perfect for each other. Although the banter, bickering, and interaction between Nick and Ruby are often laugh-out-loud funny, don't let all the humor fool you. Nick and Ruby had a difficult journey to find their happy ending.

No spoilers from me but I will say this... A handsome, sweet, lonely gargoyle who means well yet always finds himself in deep trouble-check! A beautiful lonely human woman who can't hold onto a job and longs for a happy ending of her own-check! ! A caper gone very wrong-Check! A vengeful witch who wants her pound of flesh-check! A curse that could cost Nick his wings and Ruby her happy ending-check! Vampires, dhampires, dragons, werewolves, gargoyles, and black magic-Check! Danger, heartache, and lots of angst-check! Humor, attraction, passion, steamy sex, and sweet romance-you bet! That and a whole lot more!

Did I like this book? No, I LOVED it! Would I recommend it? You bet, and I am but only for adult readers. Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Just as soon as she releases her next book! And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!

Holy gargoyle Batman that was a great book! I laughed a lot and had a few heart felt moments, I love gargoyles loved them since watching the cartoon show as a kid. Religiously every Saturday morning, this book was adorable and fun at best.

    Character breakdown;

Ruby: it isn't easy working your butt off just to survive, and it can get discouraging as well. But I loved her devotion and how easily she accepted Nick for who he was rather than try and change him. Proud or not Ruby was an admiral character in the book.

Nick: his sense of humor and loyalty to his brothers made me fall in love with him. I laughed so many times at his jokes and enjoyed his persona. And that he was a gargoyle was a plus!

This series is all enjoyable it's light and funny but with enough romance to satisfy the romantics out there. Enjoy a good laugh? Some fussy feelings? Give it a try!

I haven’t run into many books with gargoyles in them so this was truly a treat! I absolutely love that this author chose to make these gargoyles very light hearted and sweet. Ruby played the role of the down on her luck waitress perfectly. Nick doesn’t seem to have much good luck either so pairing them together seemed like destiny. There was enough conflict to keep this storyline moving quickly. Witches, dragons, good werewolves and bad, and don’t forget to throw in a lewd landlord here and there. This truly had an HEA I didn’t see coming so....very much worth the read!

Not Her Gargoyle can be read as a stand alone. I read book one, Not His Dragon, and then skipped to four, Not Her Gargoyle. I enjoyed Not Her Gargoyle, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to pick it up or purchase. I only picked this up; because it was on sale at the time for 99cents. I’m always looking out for a book deal.

Not Her Gargoyle gives us some comedy, romance, and a bit of intrigue imbued with certain disasters. I’ve noticed that the heroines in the Not This series are all down on their luck in someway and the heroes are all well off and can swoop in and save the day, but here we get both a hero and heroine that are not so well off and both in need of help.

I liked that we don’t have the life bounding/mated pair plot-line. The thing that kept me going in this story was the banter; between Nick and Ruby. It was also nice to see them both try to change their lives from shady too the straight and narrow path. The relationship between Nick and his bothers was something that I enjoyed. Nick is also super cute and clueless.

The world the author has created is filled with a verity of supernatural characters. It’s got charms, cures, and dark magic grimoire. The secondary characters where fun. I liked the vampire, can’t remember his name, we meet that the Gargoyles befriend.

I will say I didn’t care for the non-explanation for Nick’s imprisonment which leads to his breakout in the beginning of the story and also at the end then him and Ruby leaving town. With this plot-line Elon, who we meet in Not His Dragon, is also portrayed as a dick throughout the story and I’m not sure why the author went this way.

Not Her Gargoyle was an ok read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not Her Gargoyle more like So Her Gargoyle
Reviewed in Australia on June 20, 2018
This book is a hoot. If I didn’t know you could mess up something so many times it would have lacked some appeal. Nick and Ruby just can’t seem to get things right well more so Nick, when the hell is he going to learn not to annoy the dragons. This book had me laughing, groaning at some of the stupidity but wow was it a great read.
Ruby is down on her luck and can’t seem to find mister right whilst her sister is a new vampire and with her vampire boyfriend. Her best friend is now a werewolf shifter and with her mate, why can’t Ruby find someone.
Nick is a gargoyle who is over making mistakes and just wants to try and have a go at making the right choices, but as we find out making those choices are a lot more difficult then he realises.
And my gosh his brothers well let’s just say there is brotherly love there. I love how the book ends but I’m curious as to if the book gets destroyed. Guessing that one may be in another book. Anyway if you love Annie Nicholas books then this is another great read by her. I recommend this book all the way.

2.0 out of 5 stars Zu verlogen und illegal , sonst nette Chemie zwischen Pärchen
Reviewed in Germany on July 26, 2018
