A History of Murder: 3rd book in the Old Maids of Mercer Island Mystery series (Old Maids of Mercer Island Mysteries) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 300 ratings

When Julia finds a strange, hidden room set up as a nursery in the attic of the old horse barn, it sets her on a dangerous path to find a killer.

When Julia finds the hidden room during a restoration, she and the girls decide to use it as the catalyst to write a book about the history of the Inn, which dates back to the 1950s. Bad idea. Their journey will take them down a dark path, revealing a sordid history that includes the sex trafficking of underage girls when the property was used as a brothel, multiple murders, and the tragic death of a baby. In the end, Doe and Julia will be pitted against a diabolical killer in the tunnels of an old mansion on Camano Island, hoping that Blair and Rudy will rescue them. But don't despair. All your favorite characters are back to help them out, including the ghosts, the Dachshunds, Ahab, and two good-looking detectives.

What people are saying about A History of Murder.
"A group of women friends of mature age stumble innocently into murder and mayhem, and collectively solve mysteries, with a dash of comedy and paranormal elements on the way."

"This book has everything I like to find in a mystery - women of a certain age who are the best of friends - a nice dose of paranormal activity - light romance - and, of course, murder."

"I love this one! I love the Old Maids of Mercer Island. They are an awesome, eclectic group of women. You know what I love about these books? They keep me wanting MORE! It's agony waiting for the next one to come out!"

Ms. Bohart kills people for fun and profit (on paper, that is).

She holds a master's degree in theater (directing) and has taught both acting and directing. She has been published in “Woman's World” and "Dead on Demand", an anthology of ghost stories that was on the Library Journal Bestsellers List. She also wrote for the Renton Reporter and has taught writing classes through Kent Parks & Recreation and currently through Green River College.

As an avid dog lover and canine rescue advocate, she weaves dogs into all her novels. In fact, they play major roles. "I want the dogs to be realistic, though," she says. "I don't like books that make animals seem like cartoon figures."

Ms. Bohart now has ten paranormal mystery novels on Amazon, along with two short story books, and two nonfiction books. Her most popular series is the Old Maids of Mercer Island. The first book in that series, "Inn Keeping With Murder" remained on Amazon's top ghost story list for over ten months.

She recently launched the NO ALIBI ZONE on her website as a resource for both mystery writers and mystery fans. The No Alibi Zone takes a deep dive into how homicides are investigated. Through her newsletter “Let’s Talk About Murder,” she interviews police officers, mystery writers, forensic technicians, and others who work in the field of murder investigations. She also writes the MURDER BRIEF, which are blog posts on topics like the serial killer gene, the Body Farm, whether eyewitness testimony is reliable, and more.

I loved the whole series, this is the last in the "Old Maids of Mercer Island" series. I am waiting for the forth and can't wait. I was so thankful I had all three books available because as soon as I finished one I wanted to read the next.. Love the characters all intelligent women, loved the setting and . a great mystery. The lead runs a Inn on Mercer Island and gets together with her 5 friends, all female frequently to solve murders, they are all self sufficient women with brains maybe a little eccentric along with guests staying at the Inn that are also a little kooky. There is a parrot that is always quoting lines from famous movies and just makes you smile. You really will get more out of this book if you read all three in order. This is a fun quick read

This is the second “Old Maids of Mercer Island” book I’ve read, and I enjoyed them both. A group of women friends of mature age stumble innocently into murder and mayhem, and collectively solve mysteries, with a dash of comedy and paranormal elements on the way. These are quick, easy reads, but they keep you interested, reminiscent of my youthful love of Nancy Drew books that always delivered a good mystery. I’m happy to know there are two more in the series that I haven’t read, and I hope the author continues with more stories about this fun group of characters.

I was not disappointed. I had purchase this book and the third one before I was half way through the first one and I am glad I did. I really am intrigued by the spirits that inhabit the in. The author introduced two neighbors in the last book and then developed them more in this book. Goldie is quirky, and I also like the husband she created for the neighbor. The little girl from across the street who can see the ghost Cloe and speak to her. Each character she brings in enriches not only the book she has completed, but for future books in the series. The other 4 ladies that make up the main core are so endearing. I love that the author has made these older lady so youthful in not only spirt and mind, but also in body. They have not become redundant as society can make older people, but women in especially. They contribute to life and the community they live in. I am not yet 50, but I hope I can be as energetic and lively as these lady when I get to my 60's one day. Worth the read.

This book was charming, love the setting and the characters. The storyline had a sense of innocence to start and took a sinister twist early on. I did have a sense of the murderer before the reveal but still fun getting there. Love this author and would recommend her books to mystery lovers!

I am lost today as I finished the book. I am wondering what the "old maids" are up to now. I have enjoyed ALL the books in the series, but this one may be my favorite as I liked the intrigue of past historical times throughout the plot. While Historical Fiction has always been my favorite genre, I am really enjoying these mysteries! Anyway, I miss the gals and will be waiting impatiently for the next in the series !
