- Reviewed in the United States on March 9, 2023Congratulations to D.K. Holmberg for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories. I’m really looking forward to the next book!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2022These books are great, but like all the author's series, continuity is lacking and there is a desparate need for editing. One of the key characters loses connection to all but his air dragon at the end of the last book and then that changes somehow into a shadow dragon in the beginning of this one; it really makes it difficult to stay "in" the story.

If there is a complaint, it is the proofing is terrible. Someone standing outside is in next breath in a chamber then outside again. One character had one type of Dragon at end of Book 3 and then totally different in book for. Tons of words left out of sentences. But since I liked the story I tried to not let it break the 'world' and pull me out of the story.
Worth putting up with that issue.

The title actually has little to do with the story. Just a minor bit of additional knowledge. ;)
- Reviewed in the United States on December 30, 2021Okay, I'll start by saying that I've read many of mr Holmbergs series. I keep coming back to them because he always has such compelling story lines and characters. The problems start immediately however in the awful flow of the story. This entire series could have easily only been 3, 300 page books simply by getting rid of absolutely EVERYTHING being repeated 10 times or more just to try and drag out the books longer to try and make more money. More books equals more money right? A lot of authors recently are trying this approach and it sucks. More pride needs to be taken in putting out quality over quantity. Not only is it beyond tiresome to have to read the same feeling or event or memory over and over again, it also completely throws off the flow of the storyline, and makes it drag on at a painfully slow pace while doing nothing to further the plot. We get something the first time you tell us, the only purpose repeating things that many times serves is to fill pages for longer stories. See hoe tiresome it is to have something explained again and again in slightly different ways? Okay now beyond that, it takes you out of the story, where I found myself skimming over pages and pages because they served zero purpose. I like the premise for almost all of his series. The characters are well done for most, the overall story line is always an interesting one and there's originality within that keeps them fun. This story is no different and has all of the same likeable traits that his other series have, but also the same negative aspects. My main point, Love the stories he's coming up with, but please for the love of God stop repeating things sooo much. Same thing I said while first reading this author, but if non of that bothers you then you'll surely enjoy the series. Even if it does bother you, you can still find enjoyment in it.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2021I don't understand why author or editor or beta readers didn't pick up or didn't think readers would notice when they changed dragons from book 3 to book 4 for Dorian. For me it was one I constantly confronted to the point I was wrong and went back to double check myself. I wasn't. That is why this book was rated low. As a reader, and one with a pretty good memory making a blunder, or just not caring about the reader enough to notice or come up with some explanation for the change ruined any scene with Dorian in it an probably will u less explained in book 5, which hmI doubt,, which means the last book will be disappointing if hesusing his dragon.
As a reader I try to understand when writers and editor and beta readers mis typos, incorrect words, etc. These days with autocorrect, I try to be tolerant, but it often interfers with the story itself. It usually stops the flow of the story and I have to reread fixing the error to fully understand what change is needed to correctly fix and move back into my reading. Book 3 has Dorian loosing 2 out of his 3 dragons to Roson James who throws them into the lava lake. In that book he looses the shadow and stone dragons. Book 4 begins telling us how he lost 2 of 3 dragons and only has shadow dragon left. To a reader who is reading these books in order one right after the other it was jarring to have this inconsistency at the start. I rarely mix up facts no matter how fast I read, but having the loss at end of one book and then changing to something entirely different at the beginning if the next book in the series was so obvious to this reader that I blamed myself for getting it wrong. especially when the author didn't have an explanation for the change. Not kept nagging me,, to the point I stopped and went back to reread book 3 where he loses his dragons, and sure enough I was correct. If editor, beta readers, or author could explain this blunder I would greatly appreciate iate it. For me, once Dorian was out of the picture I was able to become absorbed in the story better. However I was more sensitive to the blatant typos of wrong words and mixed up he/she's. There were over 10 errors on top of the dragon oops, which made me slow the pace of reading this book, compared to the 6 in book 3 and the 4 in book 2 and the 4 in book 1. I am typically a 5 typo reader which means as long as they aren't too bad I don't have the need to point the errors out in my review. However, instead of decreasing as the books in series were written, it is like the author forgot who was female and who was male and the editor and beta readers didn't catch that. I'd get a better support especially if you don't want to be known for your errors, but known for the great story being told. Typos in mixed up info from book to book tells this reader that the author is getting distracted in a different direction or just doesn't give a crap. Neither site erll either me. It is the authors job to do it right. It is bad enough when TV or movies change the storyline from the book to movie to make it easier or cheaper to film, but for the author to do it doesn't make a lack of sense to me unless they are looking at quantity instead of quality, which means you have stopped valuing your reader and is a big turn off for this reader.
THE STORY ITSELF WAS GOOD and for those readers who can get past the errors or simply not notice then you will like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story, bit long winded
I love the story but I think there was too much repetition of the story line and that the whole thing would have been better condensed into 3 books.

I do enjoy DK Homberg,s books but all the spelling mistakes, incorrect words, he instead of she for example and missing words, really do Mar the flow and enjoyment of reading them!
