- Reviewed in the United States on December 13, 2017Format: KindleImagine what it would be like to remember doing something that technically hasn’t happened in your timeline yet.
The time travel in this story was incredibly complex. Multiple timelines interfered with each other over and over again, so I was glad that the author spent as much time as possible showing the audience what happened in each timeline before and after they were changed yet again. This made for a pleasant reading experience, especially once the pacing picked up and Amara’s mission became even more urgent
There were so many other conflicts going on that I was a little bit surprised when a romantic twist was included as well. While I liked both of the characters who were involved in it and it is a minor criticism, the plot would have been even stronger if it had stuck to the main storyline. The characters had plenty to keep them busy as it was.
As usual, the world building was spectacular. I know I’ve mentioned this in previous reviews of this series, but I love the way all of these stories build on each other over time. There are little details in each one of them that are later expanded on. This makes it important to read everything in order, and it also makes it rewarding for longterm readers who may have wondered about a small detail early on that is only now being fully explored.
I’d recommend Of Noble Blood: Out of the Darkness, The Demon Series Part 7 to all of the fans of this world. It was one of the best instalments in it so far!

- Reviewed in the United States on June 22, 2018Format: KindleFrom the moment she was given her unexpected quest, Amara's life has never been the same. Throughout the years, she's traveled to a good many locations, intent on helping the Chosen One save humanity. Darting back and forth through time hasn't been easy. At times, it's taken quite the toll, yet she refuses to give up on helping to restore the fragile balance that exists between her world and the one she was sent to protect alongside Jesse Miller.
Broadening upon Jesse's story, Of Noble Blood takes one step further and opens our eyes to the sacrifices Amara has to undertake in order to achieve an end to her own means. This is a woman who's had to grow up in the blink of an eye. Never once has she had the chance to live her life the way she once thought she would.
E. H. has created a complex world where every character we come across adds more to the story. In this book, we get to see how far Amara and Jesse will go in order to restore balance to every existing timeline. The lives they've led have been difficult, yet never once do they waver from the task at hand.
I like the fact that the author has been able to tidy things up for each subsequent book in the series, thus far. Something tells me the journey is far from over, however.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2017Format: KindleWow, this was another amazing story. I love how the author takes each story and makes it the POV of each character and how these characters connect at some point and cross paths.
The characters in this story were once again phenomenal. The POV of this story was Amara and it was so fascinating to see how her story unfolded and cross paths with Jesse.
The story-line was incredible. The turn of each page was so addicting and refreshing. I loved the detail that the author went into to explain what happened from beginning to end and the flashbacks and the heartache that the character went through had me in tears. This is the first book that the author actually had me crying instead of the edge of my seat frightened for the characters. This is by far my favorite story out of the whole collection and I highly recommend this read.
The author provided me with a digital ARC copy of the book for review purposes only. No remuneration was exchanged.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2018Format: Kindle“It’s a mystery. Has been for centuries. All anyone knows is it appeared one day.”
Canadian author E.H. James is a prolific writer of short stories – stories that test the imagination and call forth ghost like thoughts of the dark world about which we know very little. James is part of that conundrum as there is no biographical information on this gifted author as though that is meant to be part of the mysteries presented. We learn that she has read and researched in the areas of parapsychology and metaphysics, for the past 40 years, and has woven the real and imaginary together into stories of the strange and bizarre. The fruits of her labor show!
James’ mastery of the short story is obvious to those readers fortunate to have been introduced to her craft. In a matter a few pages she is able to conjure an atmosphere that challenges the reader’s courage to enter past the initial page, and the manner in which she quickly sketches lifelike characters and draws us into their interactions with the challenges they encounter is masterful.
THE DEMON SERIES of which OF NOBLE BLOOD: OUT OF THE DARKNESS is the seventh volume demonstrates James’ mastery of the short story. In a brief 63 pages she elevates the suspense for the entire series even more. The entire Demon Series covers centuries; the sixth volume returns to California, 1962.
James’ synopsis covers the story well ‘Being the queen’s daughter doesn’t exclude you, when the fate of the world is in the balance. And when Princess Amara has the opportunity to help, she readily accepts. Transformed into a shape-shifting time traveler, she journeys back through the centuries to the year 1522. Here she retrieves a baby boy and brings him forward to the year 1995, where he becomes Jesse Miller. Unaware he is chosen, he comes to realize he alone must save the world. And with the help of Amara, he must travel further yet into the future, to destroy the demon infiltration and repair the damaged timeline. But the story is far from over, and when he returns to 2233, where he lives with Amara, he discovers there is far more to experience than he can possibly imagine.
Knowing that the series continues makes the mystery of part 7 a very exciting continuation and growth. E.H. James’ masterful uses of the back and forth time frames for the series adds immeasurably to the suspense, with backgrounds offered in a near random fashion to explain the destinies of her characters. She is a master writer. Grady Harp, February 18
