The Killings -
It is the fall of Olivia Miller's senior year of college and she is busy with schoolwork and law school applications, but decides that a night out with friends is just what she needs. Arriving at a Halloween party with her friend Melissa, the young women discover a gruesome crime scene in the hosts' living room. As Olivia and her friends try to uncover clues that will lead to the serial killer, their investigation into the murders may be putting their own lives in danger.

Red Julie -
Olivia was raised by her aunt Aggie from the time she was a year old. Several weeks before Olivia graduates from college, Aggie dies suddenly and unexpectedly, riding a bicycle at night near her home in Ogunquit, Maine. The death certificate lists the cause of death as a massive heart attack, but Olivia doesn’t believe it.
Soon after her graduation, Olivia is on the highway, late at night, heading home to Ogunquit when she comes upon an accident. A man is on his back, in the middle of the road, his legs caught in the wreckage of his overturned Mercedes. He grabs at Olivia’s jacket and frantically mumbles to her something that sounds like, ‘red Julie’. The man dies at the scene, but not before he slips something into Olivia’s jacket pocket. Will Olivia figure out what ‘red Julie’ means and how her aunt really died that night before it is too late?

The Stone of Sadness -
Olivia Miller has just finished her first year of law school. She is staying at her cousin John's house in Howland, Massachusetts to dog-sit his chocolate Lab while John goes on a business trip. Olivia promises to clean out the attic and she finds a forty-year-old newspaper with an article recounting the grisly murders of a young mother and her four-year-old daughter. John tells Olivia that the mother and daughter were their cousins and that the murderer was never brought to justice. Olivia is still dealing with feelings of loss, guilt, and sorrow over last year's murder of the aunt who raised her, but she decides to research the killings and find out why no one was ever accused of the crime. By trying to uncover any piece of information that might shed new light on the old murders, Olivia may be putting her own life in danger.
Although some of the details of this novel's crime are loosely based on the unsolved murders of my distant cousins in Rutland MA in 1973, this is a fictional story and the characters and setting are products of the author's imagination.

    I found this series is not really a "cozy" mystery, as much as just murder mysteries. While the main character does have "cozy" interactions, they're mostly who-dun-it stories. Very violent, very bloody, very graphic. So not my favorite of the J.A. Whiting mysteries. But if that the kind of action that you like, these are right up your alley!

    Book 3 of this series and I would read more. The series so far could really be true with little stretch of the imagination. I like they are not back to back murders and all in the same town.. would like to see one or two more in the series and wrapped up because too many authors keep going and going... no one has that many murders connected to them

    I like this author the way she tells the story builds the mystery. Good characters and story lines. This series is different from the other series she has written but I really enjoy her books and can't wait for more books to read.

    J A Whiting is a very good author. I really enjoyed the Olivia Miller Mystery Collection and went on to read all her other books. I would highly recommend this series and the author herself.
