On Circus Lane (The Wright Brothers Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,518 ratings

The first time Bee Bannister met Tom Wright, he couldn’t stand him.

Everything about the man aggravated him—his perfect hair and body, his confident arrogance, and the way he looked straight through Bee.

Which is why it’s such an unpleasant shock to find that he’ll be sharing space with him while on a Christmas holiday with friends in Scotland.

However, as the days fly by and snowy Edinburgh begins to work its magic on him, Bee discovers that sometimes first impressions can be very misleading. Tom is kind and funny, and somehow, rather than looking through Bee, he actually sees and likes all of him.

The two men grow closer, but will Bee follow his heart or his head when the holiday ends? And can relationships that start so badly ever lead to love?

From bestselling author Lily Morton comes a festive romantic comedy about enemies to lovers and the magic of Christmas.

This is the first book in the Wright Brothers series.

I enjoyed this delightful story immensely. It is one of the best holiday feel good books I've read in a very long time.
A running theme of (to quote/paraphrase) "To be (Bee!) or not to be (Bee!), that is the question". Forgive that corny throw away line. Please!
But, that was an important issue in this story. Recognizing your soul mate but having to tread softly enough so as to not frighten him away but insightful enough of his defenses to open his mind and heart to the possibilities of forever.
I also really enjoyed the many lovely descriptions of Edinburgh and the insightful glimpses of it's history and architecture. I love that historical connection to the past. It somehow gives a feeling of comfort to our hectic modern lifestyles, knowing, no matter what life brings, we'll be able to offer the same " connection" to future historic observers.
This was a delightful walk "On Circus Lane" by Lily Morton. And, I highly recommend you take the journey and enjoy this beautiful and heartfelt love story.

Oh thus is just plain charming. I'm completely smitten with this lovely story. Tom is so beautifully solid and sweetly steady and Bee is so brightly quirky. Watching how quietly Tom saw and listened to Bee but was able to truly be peaceful enough for Bee to feel safe with was amazing. I love this group of friends and can't wait for more. Steven can go through.

Bee gave me so much secondhand embarrassment—like, please stop this madness! 😂😂 The moment he kissed the guy he slept with the night before, pretending he was his boyfriend without even knowing his name? I couldn’t deal. And don’t even get me started on all the times he tried to seduce Tom; I had to take a TikTok break the first time because it was that much. LOL 😭😭😭

Okay, enough ranting, but can we talk about their chemistry? OMG. Like, I know they got off to a rocky start, but even before that misunderstanding was cleared up, the tension between them was sizzling hot. Afterward? Next-level. This is also the first book in a while that actually made me laugh out loud—I found myself chuckling so many times! 😂😂

It’s such a sweet story, and honestly, what a way to kick off 2025. My first read of the year, and already my favorite! This book is such a gem. I love these idiots together—they’re both so charming and funny. Ugh, I’m going to miss this book so much!"

I buy every book Lily writes on preorder because she's simply hilarious!! On Circus Lane is a perfect example, with a bunch of (sort of) friends sharing an apartment for an Edinburgh Christmas holiday. Bee and Tom are absolutely perfect for one another -- if they can get past the fact that Bee can't stand him. The cast of characters -- and I do mean characters! -- along for the inasnity are Bee's best gal pal Ivy, her uber-efficient workmate Sally (Tom's sister, incidentally), sweet Jack and his completely obnoxious byfriend Steven, and Theo and Georgina, who could keep Dr. Phil busy for a week. Oh, and let's not forget Freddie, who's proclivity in finding hookups right next door world be annoying of he weren't so darned funny about it! If it weren't for Lily Morton's skill in crafting unique personalities, you'd need a scorecard to keep up with the banter. But through the messiness, the warmth of Bee's and Tom's blossoming love weaves throughout. Nobody writes MM romance like Lily Morton, and this is an absolute delight! Buy it, read it and then order Merry Measure to find out what happens after!

First in series (The Wright Brothers). Slow burn. Dual POV.

When Bee meets Tom for the first time he seems like a real jerk, and of course they will be on holiday together with a group of mutual friends, but Bee’s sort of a genius so he can certainly stay away from the hottie for a few days. Tom works to get on Bee’s good side, but he doesn’t want just one night, Bee might be “the one” for Tom, so he sets out to woo Bee as they tour Edinburgh together.

The attraction is obvious, but Bee and Tom start a flirty friendship that allows them to discover each other and find similarities and differences that make them enjoy each other’s company beyond lust. I enjoyed that there is a sweetness to Tom working so hard to make Bee happy, and Bee doesn’t realize just how important Tom becomes to him until he almost misses his chance with him. Luckily, Bee and Tom have supportive friends and family that encourage them, and Tom never gives up on the clueless Bee which is swoony all on its own.

On Circus Lane is a delightful beginning to the Wright Brothers series. I enjoyed getting to know the characters from Merry Measure a little better and seeing where their stories began. What excited me even more was the author’s decision to backtrack and write this love story. This is everything I could want for Tom and Bee.
I don’t know if I’ve ever read a character as patient and endearing as Tom. He is sweet, kind and lovable too. Not to mention attractive. Add in a mostly good-natured personality and Bee didn’t stand a chance.
Bee is a quirky and brilliant sweetheart, always thinking the best of people until they prove him wrong. I was excited to watch his head finally figure out what his heart was telling him.
There is plenty of snark and humor and when I wasn’t basking in the warm fuzzies, I was busy laughing.
Their chemistry is off the charts and I could have swooned seeing this aspect of their relationship lead them even further into love. So beautiful.
I have every confidence in their HEA and only wish the story had never ended.
I look forward to more from this author.

*Both stories in the series take place at Christmas, but I’m sure I won’t restrict myself to the holiday season.

5.0 out of 5 stars sehr süß!

Another beautifully written book by Lily Morton filled with fun, humour, romance, steam and laced with her usual snarky banter.

It was the perfect book to get you in the Christmas mood, I lol and felt emotional at times. The angst was low, Bee and Tom were adorable and the rest of the characters were interesting and funny and all added to the enjoyment of the story which was set in the snowy city of Edinburgh in Scotland.

As usual Lily writes an epilogue that pulls on your heart strings and gives you the warm and fuzzy feelings you expect from the queen of the epilogues.

I shall have to re-read Merry Measure, Tom’s best friend Jack and his brother Arlo’s shot at romance in snowy Amsterdam now.

Highly recommend you read this book.
