- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2023These 3 books are a wonderful trilogy of 3 families and their travel through three of the four major conflicts of the 20th century. The stories are well told, written with a strong sense of history and familial trials and tribulations. These stories are well worth reading, and will lift your heart as they did mine.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2024This book is also well written as the other three books in the series are. However this book seems to dwell more on the personal lives of those in the book than actual combat information.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2023The final book in this series, On Station is the best. The years covered by this book are the years in which I grew up. Brings back a lot of memories of this tumultuous time in our history. Book 1 was very good, Book 2 was less than riveting, and this book, I could not put down.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2020Not a bad series although there were many technical errors especially when it came to carrier operations. For instance the A4 did not have an afterburner, the A is for attack and the aircraft would not have beeen tasked with Mig cap, tow tractors did not generally tow aircraft out of the wires unless the aircraft was damaged and had lost propulsion, and was he flying an A4 or an F4 in the refuelling episode after knocking down two Migs which is pretty far fetched.
The love stories also were quite fanciful. These guys never struck out and the females were all to ready to hit the sack.
All in all not a bad attempt to describe three wars thru the eyes of several very different families but too short to give proper tribute to several momentous situations such as Cuba and Korea.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2021I hated to see this series come to an end. Over the past three weeks I have become immersed in the lives and families of Warren, Tony and Jacob; in my mind they were all good men and great friends. They were all also heroes from a different time and place. Mr Jewett continued with his diary type storytelling and to tell you the truth I became OK with this style. The only thing that disappointed me was I felt there were some loose ends that needed to be finalized ie. What happened to Arlene and Jacob; did they get married? What happened to Andrew? Did Mike stay in the Navy and advance in rank? Those are just a few items that left me hanging. However, the novel did a great job of giving you the true feelings on all sides of the issue of the Vietnam War. The Indian Country and Northern Air War action was tense, realistic and very gritty. The description of the politics and morale both in the US and Vietnam was spot on. I also felt the emotions involved with the families in the book and it went from sad to glad to frustrating to aggravating to deep sorrow to great loss and great relief. The author did a great job of showing how great friendships can support great men. All of these factors prompted me to give this novel a 5 star rating. Enjoy.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 31, 2020Again, another good follow up “Storyline” and “Character Extension”, but should not be the “Last of the Series” because there are too many unfinished storylines. Also, I would highly recommend that editing should be better with the aircraft designations. I have the series and hope their is at lease on-ramp more to rap up at least the main characters! 👏👏👍
- Reviewed in the United States on October 15, 2020Well done. It would have been nice to have more closure on Andrew. All in all a great compilation of three wars and several other very serious conflicts in involving this Great Nation and the men and women who have served so valiantly. Three Good Reads.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2022I generally like the series. When I saw the substituted names for well-known ships in certain circumstances. I began to view this as a sort of alternate history writing. But, even in that genre some things should remain the same, especially historical fact. The assassination of John F Kennedy for example. The only part I have issue with is that Tony and Miriam are watching TV the night of the Killing and Jack Ruby shoots Oswald. Actually, the Assassination was on the 22nd and Ruby does not kill Oswald until Sunday morning the 24th as he was being transferred to the county jail. I actually was watching it happen. I was a senior in High school. It didn't really register with me as it changed Americas, even the world till years later. Otherwise, it's a a pretty good series.

5.0 out of 5 stars On Station
Great series of 3 books. All very good and covered the story of 3 families from WW2 through Korea and finishing at the end of the Vietnam War. Believable characters and a first class yarn. If you like military fiction based heavily on fact give the m s read. You'll be glad you did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great conclusion to the series.
Realistic and sad that the hero’s in this book are as close to being realistic as they possibly can. Great series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The lives of US Warriors & their loved ones at home
A captivating read about the next generation of the original warriors in WWII. A different time, a different country, but war will always be war….. senseless mutual violence born from misunderstanding, greed, and opposing views. Freedom is never free. It must be fought for to be maintained lest communism becomes another worldwide pandemic. This read is about action, sacrifice, including the sacrifices made by the warriors people at home. I believe you won’t be disappointed in reading the entire trilogy with this read being the 3rd and final (so far) book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sorry the series has ended.
While this book can be read as a standalone novel, you are much better to start with the first book in the series and follow the story from beginning to end. I was captivated by the author's writing style of developing the story mainly through character dialogue rather than long sections of dry prose. Basically, the story follows three families from just before WW-2 through to the end of the Vietnam war. There is lots of action, particularly in the first two novels, and just enough "slice-of-life" stuff to develop the characters and hold your interest. I thoroughly enjoyed the three-book series and sorry the series has ended, but end it must.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent reading.
Although this book follows the lives of several individuals it ties them together perfectly and really shows the courage of both the men and women at war and the people who were at home waiting for them.
