One Day Gone: A Mylas Grey Mystery (Mylas Grey Mysteries Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,707 ratings

Mylas Grey is a private investigator but don’t call him a private detective.

That title belongs to his father—not to him.

Mylas is the Chief Investigator for Senator Davis Allen, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. His job is to do background investigations for the President’s judicial nominees, and that’s the only kind of investigation he’s interested in doing.

But then Lizzie, the Senator’s daughter, goes missing from her campus apartment.

And suddenly, just like that, Mylas finds himself back in his hometown of Columbia, Missouri, investigating her disappearance as if he were a run-of-the-mill private detective.

Nothing about the investigation is easy.

Discovering a motive isn’t easy . . .

Lizzie has a reputation for doing the unexpected, and she could have just left town for a few days without telling anyone. On the other hand, she could have done something stupid and gotten herself into serious trouble.

Staying focused on the investigation isn’t easy . . .

When Mylas meets a beautiful photographer at his brother’s church, and she offers to help him find Lizzie, he finds himself getting a little distracted from the investigation—well, maybe more than a little distracted.

Revisiting his past isn’t easy . . .

As Mylas is forced to spend time in his hometown, he begins to question his career choice, his rejection of Christianity, and his failed personal relationships.

Solving the mystery of Lizzie’s disappearance isn’t easy . . .

It gets even more complicated when Mylas learns Lizzie was researching an article for her campus newspaper about a judge with a secret past. Is the judge connected to Lizzie’s disappearance? Did Lizzie’s boyfriend play a role? What about Lizzie’s roommate?

So many suspects. So little time.

Book I in the Mylas Grey Mystery Series is a clean, suspenseful, fast-paced mystery, involving complex relationships, a fledgling romance, and a man’s search for happiness in all the wrong places.

If you enjoy an engaging, multilayered mystery with a vulnerable, endearing hero, someone who will make you cry one minute and laugh the next, you’ll love this book!

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Luana Ehrlich's excellent writing style gives life to an enthralling mystery that I could hardly put down. I have always admired the straightforward, realistic bent of her writing, and this book is no exception. Her details about the inner-workings of Washington D.C. make you feel like you are there in the room with the characters, working through the clues and developments as they come. I particularly liked the character of Mylas Grey and his sense of directness and humor."--Reviewer, Mystery/Suspense author, D.L. Wood on Goodreads and Amazon.

This is the first book in a series about a US Senator's Private Investigator. The story takes off with a bang! We are introduced to the characters that make this series work and the important locations in both Missouri and our Nation's Capitol. It is a fast-moving story that kept my interest so well that it was hard to put the book down. As with all of this author's work, this is a clean and action-packed story. There is no foul language, no sex, no gore, and minimal violence. The story is also faith-filled. Many of the main characters are strong Christians. Our hero accepts Christ as his Savior in this book, so I am certain future stories will delve into his baby steps as a Christian. It does not 'beat them over the head with the Bible', but it does discuss Christianity in a practical and day-to-day manner. I am off to read book 2 and will likely binge-read the series.

I love this series about Mylas, the investigator…NOT a detective. There is a big difference ! (According to him)
Luana Ehrlich is so able to create interesting, believable characters and to weave a great story. She must be a great INVESTIGATOR herself to be able to think of all the questions AND the answers . I’ve read this series as each book has come out…..but started over after reading Seven Days Off .
THANK YOU, so much, Mrs Ehrlich for writing past midnight ….because we who love your books are WAITING for the next one !!!!

This first book of the Mylas Grey mysteries is wonderful. I really
look forward to the exciting reading adventure.

The character development of this book opens the door for you to join in as a cast member. You a part of a wonderful group and will feel a close friendship being developed. It is a great tribute to read novels with clean stories with out foul language, graphic violance or sexual overtones. My personal life is just a wholesome as the life portrayed inthe book. I know and experience the good that can still be shared in a world such as we live in.

I hope you can experience the peace shared in Luana's stories. My prayers are that you will.

Wow! I’ve read all the Titus Ray series, and enjoyed every single word. Now, I have a second series to latch on to that’s equally intriguing.
Read the book straight through. It was engrossing, characters well rounded, and too short! The last page just left me wanting more, please!
This time I paid for my book. It was well worth it. (Usually I’m an advance copy reader)
It amused me that the story takes place in my home state, but not my old stomping grounds. I know enough about the are the story evolves in to verify accuracy. I know novels are fiction, but a truly great author knows the locale intimately. Ehrlich does! That makes reading more pleasurable for me.
Of course, Mylas solves the puzzling situation, with the help of many ancillary persons. You know, if I could draw, I bet i could sketch the likeness of all the main characters...they are so well described and brought to life.
I won’t tell you the plot. That might ruin your read

Buy the book and read it! You’ll become a fan of Ms. Ehrlich as I have. Great read!

Okay book. The investigation was well played out. But didn't have that "hold on to the edge of your seat" feeling. Took me some time to finish
  • Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2024
I normally don't read mysteries, but Mrs. Ehrlich is such a good story-teller that I took a chance; and am glad I did. Similar to the TV show Columbo, she gives hints on who the culprit probably is part way through, but you are left wondering exactly what happened and how; so lots of intrigue, a moderate amount of action, and a beautiful love story all wrapped up in one book. In a nutshell, the senator's daughter disappears and his investigation staff has to travel back to his home town to try to help the police find her. Won't tell you more than that so as not to spoil the story.
