Only A Good Man Will Do (The Good Man Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 15 ratings

Daniel Goodman is one of a set of triplets—natural, identical triplets, a rare kind of birth. He is a serious man, often feeling estranged from his wild and carefree brother Jonah and his free-spirited parents. He's also distanced from his other brother Mark, a genius who might or might not realize that he's unlike most other people and doesn't seem to care.

Daniel is a man on a mission. For years he has striven for perfection, fighting for the pinnacle of achievement in his world of academia—Headmaster of Westover Academy. Westover, established before the American Revolution, is still one of the most prestigious schools in the country. They accept only boys whose parents fit a certain mold and only those teachers who hold to a stringent set of mores, on and off campus. Jonah considers his brother a prig. Daniel sees himself as doing his best to serve his students. How much better can he serve them as headmaster? That is what he seeks to find out.

Suddenly, into his cut and dried, strictly black and white life of moral and upright behavior, comes Eve Star, formerly one of Europe's foremost exotic dancers. Her life is anything but cut and dried, black and white. Bad enough that she's enrolled her son in Westover Academy under false pretenses. More, she runs the town's most disreputable bar. Worse, much to Daniel's dismay, he finds himself drawn to her like a kid to chocolate. Nothing good can come of this attraction. Or can it? He is, after all, a good man.

So after my mom read my first book she said, "Honey, how do you know about all this sex stuff?" I said, "Uh, mom, you know I'm married, right?"

Actually, I never intended to write erotic romance. I never intended to be an author at all--I kinda fell into it. But maybe I have a knack for storytelling. And now I enjoy it. I hope you do, too! Find out more about me on https://nomadauthors.com.

I enjoyed this sweet and spicy romance. Daniel Goodman, English teacher at a prestigious boarding school for boys, couldn’t be more different from his triplet brothers in lifestyle and aspiration. Far too concerned with appearances, Daniel seems like an insufferable prig striving for the headmaster’s position at Westover Academy. Fear not—his interactions with his students reveal his sweet side and deep devotion to their well-being and growth. He truly wants to make the school into a more progressive, nurturing place. But to do that, he must walk a fine line, doing nothing that might displease the stuffy, tradition-bound board. To make matters worse, he must constantly dodge the amorous attentions of a board member’s daughter—and her father is his staunchest supporter.

One stumbling block on the road to respectability: Daniel’s parents, an ex-con and a former stripper, are finally getting married, and the wedding plans are drawing massive media attention. If the board won’t approve of an illegitimate son as their headmaster, they definitely won’t approve of a headmaster found dating a former exotic dancer.

Enter Eve Star, whose left behind her dancing career in Europe to settle in New England. In order to get her adorable young son into Westover, she’s posing as a wealthy widow. Actually, she’s living above a bar she manages, one with a bad reputation, though she’s working to fix that. Rejected by her son’s wealthy Italian father, she’ll do anything to give her child the best possible start in life.

You can see where this is going—isn’t it fun? The stuffy schoolteacher and the sexy stripper/sultry widow meet, and sparks fly. Lots of juicy sex scenes as their inflammable attraction pulls each toward reconsidering everything. Add one really nasty ex-boyfriend and you’ve got a fun, steamy, angsty ride.

At times, Daniel’s priggishness made me want to bonk him over the head with a Lacrosse stick. Likewise, it took the heroine a long time to see the light. The ending left me smiling, if scratching my head a bit. A very enjoyable read, and I look forward to reading the other triplets’ stories.

Emotions run sky-high in the first book of The Good Man series, where a very proper man meets a woman who hides many secrets about her past. I have always enjoyed stories written by the talented Dee S. Knight, as she has a knack for making her characters particularly believable while they face some difficult challenges in their lives. There are definitely some trying moments in this story, where a decision could lead to a blissful future or years of wondering about the what-ifs. The convincing developments all through ONLY A GOOD MAN WILL DO convinced me that the characters really must exist.

As a teacher at Westover Academy, a top school for boys, Daniel Goodman always sets a good example for how the students should conduct themselves. His own actions when a child were unusually somber and seldom lighthearted, and he is happy acting the same way as an adult. Since he aspires to be the school’s headmaster, keeping his life free of scandal and always following the guidelines is a must. But when Daniel becomes entangled with Eve Star, a woman whose son is a student, he has to weigh the risks when several facts about her are revealed.

There are so many likable characters in ONLY A GOOD MAN WILL DO, and their appeal is based on a wide variety of personalities. The students at the school are often adorably entertaining, while one of Daniel’s brothers has a charming nature. There is another sibling in this set of triplets yet to be met, but he sounds like a unique person. As for Daniel, he is way too serious most of the time, but upon interacting with Eve, his life is thrown into chaos. He is totally confused by his response to a woman the complete opposite of him, and I so enjoyed seeing him work out what path he should accept when it comes to her. Eve is a wonderful mother to a delightful young boy, and she always puts his needs before hers. My respect for her only grew after some of the choices that she was forced to make.

The passion between Eve and Daniel is often off-the-charts, yet there are still genuine emotions behind their reactions to one another. While they do explore lots of fantasies, they are also forming a surprisingly close connection. I could not stop smiling during some of their more candid scenes, as they were having fun along with expressing their sincere feelings in various ways. This is a notable start to the series, and I am very eager to see what takes place when the next brother tells his personal story.

Daniel tries to be as perfect and upright as possible, even though his parents and brothers are content with their not-always-respectable and carefree lives. He aspires to become Headmaster of Westover Academy, one of the most prestigious schools in the country. They only accept a certain type of boy from a certain type of family. And, they expect their teachers to be morally clean, above-reproach, and have the best credentials.

Enter one Eve, a former exotic dancer, who runs a questionable bar and enrolls her son in the school under false pretenses. Sparks fly when she and Daniel meet, and neither of them have a clue what the future holds. Problems abound a nothing could possibly work out between them, right? Or could it?

Conflict, sizzling attraction, heart-felt goodness, arrogance, compassion, respectability, dreams for the future, nice and unpleasant characters—this story contains all these and more!

I was looking for a sweet read with some steamy scenes. This delivered nicely. I loved the young boy characters, especially Mr. Torrington, who tugged at my heart and made me smile. The romance was also fun to watch, and you just knew it was going to all work out, even though the couple didn't until the very end. The writing was excellent with great evocation. Now I'm going to have to pick up the next book and see what happens to one of the other triplets, Jonah.

I really liked the story and can’t wait for Jonah’s story. My only problem is there were a few scenes at the end that felt rushed. Everything was there just a bit rushed.
