“I guess if the worst thing I’m doomed to in life is mediocre sex, my life isn’t too bad.”

Self-starter and business analyst Zach Keller is living his dream life. He spends his days working from home in his favorite Tolkien t-shirts and pajamas while mothering his best friend-slash-roommate. The fact that his sex life is a bust and his love life is nonexistent? Unimportant. After his college boyfriend berated him for his unconventional desires, Zach doesn’t plan on sharing that part of himself ever again, anyway.

“I’m tired of feeling like I missed out on something by not going to college.”

Craig Pela isn’t lonely. He has tons of friends and weekends packed with activity. He hasn’t needed anyone since he left home at eighteen and never looked back. But everyone around him is moving forward in life, while he still works the same retail job at the same video game store, and it’s making him question his life choices. After all, he doesn’t want to be the loser still playing video games at fifty, does he?

As their relationship develops, Zach’s shy nature melts away to reveal an irrepressible geek that charms the pants off Craig. And Craig’s kind patience and ability to match him obscure quote for quote leaves Zach wondering if he’s finally met the man he can be his true self with. After all, how can someone else love you when you keep a part of yourself hidden?

About the Author

JD Chambers wanted at various times to be Indiana Jones, Pat Benatar, and Wonder Woman when she grew up. She never considered writing down the stories she crafted in her head. They provided nothing more than entertainment for long drives or sleepless nights, until one particular story insisted it didn't want to reside only in her noggin. She hasn't stopped writing since. JD finds unlikely heroes, humans courageous enough to be themselves, and spreadsheets incredibly sexy -- the last one much to her husband's chagrin. Together, they raise three teenagers and the world's most mellow Chihuahua on the Oregon Coast.

This book made me smile. It was so cute and sweet and hot and dirty. I couldn't even believe how much I loved this book. Sad backstory and all, Craig is so perfect and Zach is so dang kinky behind all that shyness. It's so good, everyone who loves some kink should read this! I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Love finds Craig and Zack unexpectedly. Zack has family issues and Craig has no family. Zack, while not shy about his sex life, has needs that he can't explain. Voicing those needs in the past didn't work out well for him. Craig decides that fulfilling Zack's need might work for him too. Be prepared for some angst and multiple partners. Happy reading

GREAT non-binary character in here!!! There were a lot of ups and downs (kinda like real life).

    Here’s the jist:
Straight guy, Parker, is attracted to non-binary Mal.
Parker cheers Mal up with a blowie (first time doing anything with a dick no his own).
Parker has no problems with Mal or their dick
    Sort of relationship
    Happy Parker
    Happy Mal

    Family issues

I didn’t have issues with Mal, they were great and so sexy. I had a problem with Parker’s disbelieving easy acceptance of being queer—although he never labeled himself.

Other than that, I enjoyed it.
Not a lot of sex scenes, but the ones that are there are awesome!

My rec? This series is a pleasant surprise. Go for it!

I loved Craig and Zach. Getting to learn about them, and their friends, was truly inspirational. Watching them open up, and come to peace with their insecurities was beautiful.

This book won’t be for all readers due to the kinks of one of the main characters. On the one hand, this novel could have been totally fine without that kink if it focused instead on a typical romance between Zach and Craig (with Zach’s family issues being the only “big bad” of the story). But after letting the story percolate for a bit before writing this review, I find that I prefer that the book also included conflict relating to how the sexual aspect of Zach and Craig’s relationship evolved. (This is one of those moments where I remind both myself and everyone else that all kinks are valid, even if we don’t share them.)

That’s a lot to unpack, and I don’t want to give away any spoilers. I had difficulty in the first few chapters with the alternating points of view, but once I got into the flow of the story, it was easy to tell Zach and Craig apart. Neither man has followed the typical life trajectory, which made them unique in their own right, a fascinating pair together, and led to some interesting story conflict. Craig is just emo enough to be adorable rather than annoying, and Zach’s issues with his family are enough to make him a sympathetic character rather than an irritating doormat. The ups and downs in the relationship arc feel more “natural” than in most romance novels, which allowed the author to introduce more secondary characters that I look forward to seeing get their own happily ever afters later in the series.

Overall, this is a solid first installment to a series that I intend to keep reading. I hope that Craig and Zach make appearances in future books because they wormed their way into my heart.

Awkward cuteness, emo hotness, intense and fast describes them once they finally make their connection and I loved every minute of that. They were both unsure in equal measure, just in different ways. Drama was not far behind, though, between insecurities and vulnerability and secrets and neither one was immune to any of it.

Zach is a nerd. In the best ways, obviously, but a nerd nonetheless. He's misunderstood by just about everyone except for his best friend Ben. With an unfortunate experience in college where he let his nerd and kink flag fly with someone he thought he could trust and was summarily dumped, shamed, and crushed, he vowed to keep as much of his true self under wraps as he possibly could. Until he bumbled his way into Craig's life.

Craig is immediately charmed by everything the nerdy and blushing guy who came in with his coworker's lunch. Unable to get him out of his mind he has Ben arrange a way for them to meet and spend a little time together as a group on the off chance that Zach would be more comfortable with Ben along. With a chance to get to know him he's not merely charmed, he's enchanted and seeks out more time with the shy man. He finds that he's falling fast for Zach and can't help but be worried that it'll end sooner rather than later because he doesn't feel captivating enough for how smart and motivated Zach is.

As they get more and more involved with one another they reveal more about one another, but it seems that it's only Zach sharing his past. Zach is aware of that and is willing to give Craig time to open up whenever he's ready. In the bedroom, however, things are moving along quickly and he thinks he's found someone he can be truly honest with. So he shares a little...and grows to regret his passionate admissions. Craig isn't sure what to do about Zach's confession so he does what he shouldn't do and that's to pull back. It becomes pretty clear that his go-to solution is to edge away from uncomfortable situations until he's far enough away to bolt.

But he misses Zach and everything they could have so he sucks it up and decides to talk it out. With things on their way back to trust it seems like things are looking up for the clumsy couple. An incredibly awkward and embarrassing family moment, however, prove that assessment very wrong.

Being on the outs devastates both of them but it's Zach's open honesty that's left in tatters. Craig is going to have to pull off something big to get back in his good graces.

I really enjoyed this story. There were moments that frustrated me because of the characters' reactions as well as a lack of openness on Craig's part until almost too late. I get Zach's love and needing someone like Craig but I wasn't a fan of how quickly he forgave Craig. I'm not saying I wanted him to withhold forgiveness, but I was hoping for a bit more discussion both ways and a lot more groveling. Aside from that I enjoyed this story quite a lot. And while I'm not a fan of the brand of kink here, I respect that other people enjoy and sometimes need those things and appreciate the honesty and the safety measures discussed surrounding said kink. Well done. Hot and awkward is always a winning combination for me.

Enjoyable, but there were a couple of things that just didn't sit right for me. One was Craig accepting Zach's Kink so quickly when his insecurities would have him feeling like he wasn't enough. That's just my opinion though, I'm sure others would probably understand. Also felt like slapping both of them. Craig for being a douchebag to Zach and also Zach for not telling his mum to take a hike, but I've never been good about people allowing themselves to be ridiculed & treated like garbage by those that supposedly love them
