About the author

From an early age Miranda Brock has always loved fantasy and adventure everything. Since she doesn't live in a world of enchanting powers, mythical beasts, and things unbelievable she has decided to write about them. (Although, if you happen to see a dragon flying around, do tell her.) Born in southern Illinois, where she still resides with her husband and two children, she grew up running through the woods, playing in creeks, and riding horses. What started out as writing poetry grew into short stories and eventually led to her first novel, Souls Discovered. Miranda lives in the country where she finds inspiration in the simplicity and beauty around her. With the help of a ridiculous amount of coffee and some good music she writes whenever she gets a chance.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2019Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis book was incredible! I swear, Ms. Brock gets better and better with every book she writes!
She took some twisted and terrifying creatures and turned them in a type of family.
Peyton is an awesome female character. Does she kick ass? Hecks yeah! But not in the stereotypical man-in-a-woman’s body a lot of urban fantasy uses but real way. (If she were to go to Hogwarts, she’s be a hat-stall between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw. She is intensely brave, but she uses wit rather than brawn to solve her problems (that’s not to say she doesn’t make mistakes, because she certainly does, as all well rounded characters should!) ‘If there’s a will, there’s a way’ should be her motto.
Ari, her foil/love interest is as complex a character as you can get. He’s just a fella fighting to survive in a world that has never shown him an ounce of love or compassion. Not only that, but his own beastly nature(s) makes him keep everyone at a distance as well. But come on, if you don’t close the cover of this book wanting to hug a griffin, then perhaps you need to work on your own capacity for compassion!
The side characters were quite interesting to get to know, & I hope to dig deeper into their backgrounds in future books. Also, I’d love some more chapters from Ari’s perspective in the future! I loved him just as much as I loved Peyton and I want to see more of his inner workings.
Side note: The ebook version is still on preorder but I just couldn’t wait any longer and went ahead and one clicked the paperback. No regrets, and another pretty book for my shelves! Because, yeah, you can judge this book by its beautiful cover.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 22, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDefinitely an interesting story. I loved Peyton and Ari and the supporting characters were interestinf and added flavor. As warned, this book os definitely for adults as there is use of the "f" word ans a couple of sex scenes which I found unnecessary to the story and skipped over. Overall an interesting story
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA Turn Of Pandemonium is Book 1 in the Cirque du Shadow series. This story has it all -- extremely well-written storyline and unique characters who are amazingly well developed. I loved the characters of Peyton (human) and Ari (half gryphon/half demon). Peyton takes a job in the Cirque du Shadow, a night circus, not knowing that this is not your usual circus which is made up of unique creatures. She is hired as a handler for Ari, a half-gryphon/half-demon) shape shifter who has a reputation for killing his handlers. Peyton holds her own with Ari and the two have lots of chemistry between them. It would really be great to be able to have more information about the other acts in this this night circus (Iris and Irwin, the firedrake twins, Drum the teddy bear/bouncer) -- hopefully in future books. I have always loved circuses, no matter the type, and this is a very unique one. Am looking forward to the next book in series to see where Miranda Brock is going to take us. I highly recommend this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2019Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseAdventure, illusion, romance, and an all-time favorite! There is just something about this book that instantly resonated with me and it has this sort of magnetism to it. I was hooked from the first page and find myself still getting excited about it long-after I’ve finished it. I’ve read and enjoyed all of this author’s books but feel this one demonstrates her growth in writing the best. The story flows well and I fell in love with the characters, even the not so well-behaved. The chemistry between Peyton and Ari is palpable yet believable as is the conflict with another character. I connected most with Peyton’s character arc and strength. The story speaks to the tenacity and perseverance of the human spirit, even when the odds are stacked against her, she still keeps trying. If you love paranormal romance, urban fantasy, stories of strength and overcoming, or the magic of a dark circus, then don’t miss this one!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2019Format: KindleStarted out good but then kind of fizzled out. Ending was really lame.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhen I saw this cover for this one, I had to snap it up. I'm a sucker for circus stuff (like Darren Shan's Cirque DuFreak). And I think that was more what I was looking for when I picked this up. This definitely has that wonderfully crazy, macabre feel to it, but this series is decidedly more adult. Which worked quite well in book one. The only complaint I had with this one is that it would've been better if the author had kept it to Peyton's point of view. Delving into Ari's head took some of the mystery out of it, but it was still a good story.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2019Format: KindleI’ve read the Keeper’s Way series, a YA/NA series, by this author, and I enjoyed it. This is a more adult series, and I admit I was a little reluctant to start it at first because I’m not a big fan of the circus, and I was afraid that would influence my reading of this. I was right, but in a good way. Original, unique, dark, and interesting are words that come to mind when I think about this series starter. Ari is a wounded soul, and Peyton is the light that can heal him. I found the other characters fascinating, and I loved to hate them…until I got to know most of them. Ari’s trapped in the circus, and now as his handler Peyton is, too, which is sort of how I feel about circus’ in general leading to me really liking this book. I am not a big fan of pure romance, but I did enjoy this one. Yes, it is dark, but it’s not too dark. I’m also looking forward to the next. Recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2019Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA very unique take on a Supernatural Circus 🎪! Humans aren’t aware, unless your hired.. and survive! It’s exactly what happens to Peyton. She is the new handler for Ari the gryphon demon.Peyton and Ari struggle at the beginning to even talk and get along but as the story moves on it becomes clear how they are slowly falling for each other. Many interesting friends and foes. Pretty cool new series! ❤️
