Practitioner of the Arts: Book 2, The Phosfire Journeys Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 14 ratings

In this exciting sequel to Purveyors and Acquirers, if young apprentice Zeal has any hope of learning how to control his explosive Phosfire talent, he must travel to the city of Havensharth and face the difficult challenge of becoming a Practitioner of the Arts. As he leaves behind those he loves, including Iris, the Temple of the Ladies of Life, and the Trade, who have all sheltered and protected him since he was an infant, he is joined by his best friend, Tulip, who decides to accompany him and study the warrior’s arts, herself.
Furthermore, Kit, the Shadow Cat, claims Zeal as her own and surprises him with her decision to travel along. Zeal soon learns the risks associated with his bond to this beloved, intelligent, yet fierce creature.
Zeal and Tulip are taken into the care of strangers: Master Ice, Zeal’s Mentor as a Practitioner, and Lady Mirada, a retired mercenary. While the young apprentices expand their skills and make new friends, their newfound abilities may not be enough to enable them to survive the dangers that await them.

James D. Macon has done it again—written another delightful high adventure of magic and imagination. Kit, the Shadow Cat steals the show in this volume, displaying her feline sense of humor, and flexing her frightening claws whenever the Pride is threatened. Zeal continues to surprise us as he develops his abilities with fire, taking us into the burning heart of his power. Tulip with her dagger and sword, and Tallen with his flute, do far more than just come along for the ride; they save the day with their cleverness. And as always in James Macon’s novels, there is gentleness and affection to spare, even in the midst of danger; a rare and welcome quality in an adventure fantasy, adding a loving touch to his stories. I was hooked from the beginning and read through eagerly to the end. A wonderful tale for all ages!

James D. Macon has triumphantly created a culmination of adventure, magic and mystic in his series of books. I love the way he builds upon the mystic of the characters, to draw me in and keep me wanting for more and more. What a well written, Soon to classic series of well written classics. I can read these books even to my grandchildren, and yet be drawn in to the wonderful adventures myself!! Very good books
