5 Stars! BEST Wrestling book aroundaaron garnerBeing a old school kayfabe wrestling fan I have read many wrestling books. So many have let me down and cost me money but hey became gifts for my friends lol.Pin Me Pay Me will never leave my bookshelf unless it is in my hands and I'm reading it! A perfect wrestling book about a great guy and underused wrestler who talks about growing up,training and living his dream! Awesome, entertaining and interesting and funny as well this book will be well worth the cost which is great.Look up Bobby Blaze Smedley and he will even autograph it for you!
5.0 out of 5 stars A Blazing Good StoryPin me Pay me was hard to put down. Blazes life in and out of the ring makes for fascinating reading! Full of stories about wresting, life and respect. Smedley takes you inside the world of professional wrestling, from the local high school gym to the large arenas, you have a front row seat. This book is full of humor, emotion and one man's love and respect for his sport and his fellow competitors. A must read for fans of wrestling and chasing dreams!
5.0 out ofHonest AND HilariousPin Me, Pay Me!: Have Boots, Will Travel (Paperback) is Honest and HilariousPin Me Pay Me is an incredibly honest look inside the world of professional wrestling. Bobby Blaze takes you into the locker rooms, into the spotlight, on the road, and into the pits where the show is put together. Like every profession, wrestling has its own language, with code words, labels, and unspoken rules. Reading this book should be required for every person that ever watched a match on TV - much less paid good money for a night of entertainment at a match.
ByDori Anneon October 25, 2015Format: Kindle Edition|Verified PurchaseI love this book! By the time it's finished, you KNOW Bobby. He holds nothing back, does not sugar-coat. He tells the details of his life, training, matches, and thoughts along the way. I grew up watching 'rasslin' on TV with my family. This book of Bobby's brings it all back. The book will have a similar, nostalgic feel for many.
The training, the conditioning required, and hard work to maintain it, carries one through the book in amazement.
Bobby travelled to many countries during his wrestling career. It's interesting to note how differently the wrestlers were treated in various countries. After a long, international flight, Bobby and the others would still turn out for sparring and limbering before matches, as well as greeting the locals. They did what was asked of them. They are athletes. This is an aspect of the book I liked very much, a respectful look at the art of wrestling.
Pin Me, Pay Me!: Have Boots Will Travel is an up close look at a well-trained wrestler's life. It's a good read. You'll enjoy it.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 6, 2014I wasn't expecting a lot from the book at first. Frankly, there are dozens of wrestling books out there and it takes a lot to stand out from the pack. So, does he deliver? Well, mostly. It's not as detailed as Hitman. It's not as polished as Mick Foley's books. Bobby repeats himself frequently, and rambles through topics with an odd combination of detail and abstraction that occasionally leaves one confused about where things start and leave off. But he's got heart, and he does tell very entertaining stories. It's kind of like having a guy at a bar tell a rambling story. It may twist and turn, and change topics like most people change pants, but you remain entertained by it all.
I think my favorite part was how much emphasis he put on what happened outside of the ring, those little bits of respect and friendship shared between wrestlers in the locker room. He also points out in great detail that putting the other guy over is all part of the business, and requires a sharp wrestler to make it look good.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2014I've only watched a handful of professional wrestling matches on television in my life, and I'm not what you'd call a fan of the sport. But as I read "Pin Me Pay Me," something struck a chord with me that rose above the gritty blow-by-blow account of the amazing and full life that he's led--single-minded determination.
I laughed and I cried as I read Blaze's account of his life, and I loved the life lessons that he shares through the stories of his many mentors, coaches and friends. But above all, the sheer determination to live his life the way he wants to live makes the deeper message of this book a shining ray in a world that has gotten way too used to "if at first you don't succeed, wait for someone to give you what you want."
Bobby's writing style is fresh, gritty and real, and it felt like I could have been sitting across a table from him listening to the stories. I recommend this book to more than just fans of professional wrestling, who will definitely enjoy the behind-the-scenes stories and history...but business owners, athletes, indie authors (like me!), or anyone that needs to hear once in a while that determination is a good thing, and that living your life by striving for your dreams is the real source of success.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2013Bobby gives an honest and entertaining assessment of his time in the pro wrestling business in this book. From training at the Malenko camp in Tampa to the daunting task of facing Dan Severn while working in SMW, he paints a compelling narrative with his story and there is an unquestioned level of authenticity in what he wrote. The little details really make the chapters fly by as he chronicles his start in the biz at indie shows in eastern Kentucky all the way to him being a contracted wrestler with WCW.
I enjoyed reading about various ribs, road trip antics and shady promoters, but some of the best touches were the unexpected tidbits, like The Barbarian being a skilled basketball player. Who knew? Bobby's recollection of a conversation Kevin Sullivan had with him and the late Chris Candido at an SMW show is making me laugh to myself as I type this -- you'll have to read the book to enjoy that one for yourself.
This book is well worth the purchase price and will provide you with hours of entertainment, particularly if you are a fan of pro wrestling. Highly recommended.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2013This book is an interesting account of a man's journey into fulfilling his dreams and provides great insight into the wrestling business from a fresh and different perspective than your typical WWE linked autobiographies.
Much like Jimmy Valiant's book, you feel like Bobby is right there talking to you as you are reading along. He comes across as likable and believable. Something that I've noticed doesn't happen with a lot of other wrestling biographies.
His time in SMW was the most interesting since that was when I remember following Bobby's career. I enjoyed his account of working with Chris Candito since I was there live for most of the matches mentioned. The Sherri Martel and the cows story (sorry no spoilers) was really nice too and gives insight into the type of person Bobby probably is away from the ring. I also like how he paid respect to the time he spent around Chris Benoit without judging what happened at the end of his life.
Bobby is surprisingly old school (For some reason I thought he was about 10 years younger than he really is) and any fans of pro wrestling should find his story to be a great read.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2013I enjoyed this book and Bobby's recap of his career and how he broke into the business and those who not only helped him but respected him throughout. It was nice that some of the major indy promotions, including Smoky Mountain made it into the book, and it was great to read the story regarding the time Bobby first met Terry Funk. The book also provided a nice understanding of how (through an enhancement talents eye's) of how screwed up WCW was. Bobby made it into their video game, yet he was never given a push.
The biggest criticism that I have of this book is the fact that every few pages, Bobby stopped to once again tell you how much he respected the business and point out those who in his eye's truly did not. While I appreciate this and respect his opinion, it was a bit of overkill on that front.
As this is a kindle book, I would recommend this to any "Pro Wrestling" fan, you can't be the price. If you are a "Sports Entertainment" fan, well keep on moving, but you probably would not even click on this selection to browse in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent
Having not previously known much about Bobby's career, I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but... well, what a great read it was!
Bobby's career has taken him through the American territories, to WWE and WCW and to Japan and beyond. It's a tale of doing the right thing, in wrestling parlance - he's a man who, as the title implies, is always happy to 'do the job' to enhance the talents of others. This is an incredibly vital role in the industry, and one which is often sadly overlooked (or, indeed, misunderstood by improperly trained talents who are only in it to become big time superstars...), and Bobby did it with enthusiasm and respect for the business.
Bobby's tale is of a man who got into the business he loved, trained under the incredible Professor Malenko and became a stellar talent, met and fought the biggest namesworldwide, had a fantastic time and made it out the other side in one piece.
100% recommended to any wrestling fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding.
I highly recommend Bobby's memoir to all wrestling fans and in particular to any budding or existing wrestlers. He pulls back the curtain in charming and honest fashion and manages to pull no punches without a hint of bitterness.
One of the last of the territory wrestlers, he won gold in Smokey Mountain, the underrated promotion run by Jimmy Cornette, with whom Bobby shares a lot in common in terms of attitudes to 'working' and the business overall.
Also, as a Brit, I loved reading Bobby 's memories of working in England and would gladly go for a fry up with the great man!

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Bobbys carerr, a good, honest hard worker
I would rather give it 4+, or 4.5, it is not great, (a bit like Bobby himswelf would no doubt admit) but a good account of, as he says one of the last to really go through the terriitory system. I loved SMW, so I guess I would be biased towards this.
