I went on tour at seventeen and never looked back. Fifteen years later, I have more fame, fortune, and success than I ever imagined. Now I’m the bass player for a new band and all I want to do is get back on top.
Pop star Ariel Fox has been under her father’s thumb for so long she doesn’t remember what freedom is like.
My goal is to make her remember.
When she’s invited to record a single on our demo tape, it’s the one chance I’ll have to get to know her without being under the watchful eye of her father.
Falling in love isn't part of the deal.
But when the record company tries to sabotage my band, I’m going to have to choose between protecting Ariel and protecting myself.

About the author

USA Today Bestselling author Kat Mizera is a South Florida native. Born in Miami Beach with a healthy dose of wanderlust, she's called Los Angeles, Long Island, upstate New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Atlanta home. She's never been able to pick which locale is her favorite, but if pressed, she'd probably choose the west coast.
Kat's a typical PTA mom with a wonderful and supportive husband (Kevin) and two amazing boys (Nick and Max). When she's not writing, she's either scrapbooking or indulging in her second love (after writing) - traveling. Greece is one of her favorite places in the world. She loves that Athens is a big city with a small-town feel. The food, beaches and culture keep her going back as often as possible. She hopes to retire there one day so she can spend her days writing books on the beach.
As you can guess from her series, the Las Vegas Sidewinders, Kat loves hockey. She is also a freelance hockey writer, covering her favorite team, the Florida Panthers, and any other teams that have an interesting story. The rest of the time, she writes novels: sexy, romantic fiction that she hopes makes you as happy as it makes her. There's something enticing about hockey players and romance...

- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2025But I didn’t know about the King series prior. I am a huge Kat Mizera fan now and looking for more things to read. I wish I could picture the characters more clearly this one didn’t do that for me, but you’ll love it.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2022I wasn't sure how this book was going to go when it initially seemed like it was going to be a "love at first sight" story, but it is in no way that kind of story. There is so much more to the story than two successful musicians meeting and falling in love. Ariel is a beautiful you woman who has been a huge pop star since she was a teen. Tyler is a talented and sexy bass player in the hard rock band Nobody's Fool. They have an immediate connection when they first meet. The record company wants them to work together, but they want Nobody's Fool to be more pop, than rock and dangle a huge contract in front of the band. As the band and Tyler get to know Ariel, they learn how controlling her father is over her life. She's never had a chance to enjoy her life and have any friends. She finally decides it's time to take control of her life and get out from under her dad's control.
There is so much that goes on in this book. You find out what an absolute jerk her father is (and I'm being nice). Even in the end he claims he was just trying to protect her. Tyler makes some stupid decisions when Ariel needs him the most. The band, including Tyler and his parents, a King, psychologists, a pharmacist and more all come together to support Ariel to help her get her freedom and what is truly hers. Did the Judge rule on Ariel's favor? Did Tyler win her back? Will the band go on? You'll have to read the book to find out.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2022This was an interesting book, almost sweet definitely sexy. My only negative was the bipolar diagnosis. I knew in the middle of the 2nd mention of bipolar disorder that Ariel didn't have it. I'm bipolar and have been on.medication for more than 30 years and trust me when I say you can tell when I'm not taking them. I also argue with the fact that the meds muddle your thoughts and the other descriptions used. While true years ago the biggest complaint I've heard in the past 10 years is an.upset stomach..... Like I said that was the only part I had issue with and made the identity of meds not a show stopper. I wish more research had been done on that.
All and all the story was a sweet one and definitely worth reading! Im excited to read the next books in the series!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2021n Play, Kat Mizera brings back our favorite musicians with a few new characters. Tyler was the bassist’s for Casey Hart’s band, but when she left marry a king, the band Reckless Harts was disbanded. Tyler now has a new band with several new band mates. While the band, Nobody’s Fool, is playing a live show, he sees the pop start Ariel Fox in the wings. Something just clicks into place, beginning a new experience for the playboy.
Years ago, as a teenager, Ariel lost control, drove her car into a pool, and then hit a policeman. Her father placed her in a mental institution, told her she was bipolar, and became her conservator, controlling every minute of her day and her finances. When she meets Tyler at the show, she lets go for a moment, sneaking off with him. Soon, they are trying to get together again, but away from her controlling father.
I liked how these two were complete opposites, their music, their lifestyles, and their freedoms. But one thing connected them, they both were lonely in their own ways. Tyler is this smoking hot bass player, a known player who can have any woman he wants, although he seems to want more. Tyler was invited to join Reckless Harts when he was 17, and although he is a great musician, everything has come easy for him, fame, fortune, women, while never having to work at it. He is sweet but clueless. Ariel has practically been locked away in a tower, no friends, no relationships, since she was a teenager. She lacks self-confidence, and while her beauty and musical abilities have made her professional life easy, her personal life has been hell.
I love this start to a new series, and the bandmates are all so different from each other. I'm looking forward to the next book in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2024I read Rock romances for the guys in the band, the performances, the tours, the contract negotiations, the complications at after parties, the tough manager playing rough to keep the band in line, the label execs making unreasonable demands.
And first and foremost the hot romance with a woman, preferably in the music industry, our hero just can't resist.
I don't read Rock romances for exploration of illness and disease, dysfunctional family dynamics, hospitals, day care, courtroom drama, timid female characters so delicate and fragile they're afraid to live a full life after a former boyfriend "cheated."
Too many Rock Romance authors use the exciting rock music setting to then go off on dreary tangents that have nothing to do with the world of rock 'n'roll. It's frustrating for the reader.
And then there's the ever popular dual first-person narration, which is limited and boring. Not sure why this structure is used so often when third person narrative is so much more inclusive of all characters in a story.
Much of the time, the first person "voice" of the two characters sound so similar it's too easy to confuse who is actually speaking, partly due to the male main character sounding too girly.
This story interested me at first when it seemed to be going in a rock direction. But then it quickly took us to a palace in a remote European country that had almost nothing to do with the music industry but a lot of does she or doesn't she discussion of bi-polar disorder. Sigh.
I know it's only Rock'n'Roll but I like it. Could we please have more of it?
- Reviewed in the United States on April 23, 2024This novel starts out really great. Author waited 6+ chapters too late to get into the female leads real issues. Last 6 chapters began a decline in the QUALITY of this novel. But I am looking to read the whole series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Miss the mark
The story and characters were fine. Love scenes are good but there is no way the judge, in particular, would speak like that in court. Or that a king would go to court on a whim and short notice. The whole legal wrap up was too schmultzy.
Pity that it never kept the right tone for the business and legal sides of the saga.
