Is mixing business and pleasure ever a good idea? Will her relationship with CCIA special agent Charlie survive the challenge of the two of them working together? And then there’s the added complication of agent extraordinaire Martha, a man-eating goddess, also assigned to this investigation, who clearly has designs on Charlie.
Working on the case leads Amber to a glamorous red carpet film premiere, learning to dance at a party in a grand country house - and the distinct possibility of becoming the murderer’s next victim.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAmber Reed is a new recruit with the Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency (CCIA) in Scotland. Amber and her boyfriend Charlie is the lead agent and Martha another agent are investigating the case of murdered former rock star Flynn Garrison. Flynn had retired from the limelight and was pursuing his dream as a geologist in Scotland. Amber, Charlie and Martha are sent to the Scottish island of Farra to solve the case of the murdered rock star. I really enjoyed this hilariously funny cozy mystery novel.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was a fun story and a good mystery.
The romance aspect is still a little heavier than
in most other cozy mysteries, but it never overtakes
the story.
the Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency (CCIA), is the
agency that Amber Reed works for. On her first official case,
a former lead singer who has walked away from the spotlight
is murdered.
I don't understand why the CCIA was investigating this one to start
with. They're called in when a celebrity asks for help in quickly solving
a case to help clear them.
The celebrity in this case is dead.
He couldn't have called anyone, and as far as I could tell nobody else called
them either.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAmber wanted to join the Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency (CCIA). She has completed her enlistment training and is officially the newest recruit of CCIA. There is something to that old saying, ”Be careful what you ask for”. As a support officer in training she finds herself lowest on the totem pole. Even so, there are a few perks to the job. Unfortunately, Amber is still full of zany antics that land her in danger more often than not. Will she be able to enjoy any of those perks? There are plenty of twists and turns in this story to keep you guessing whodunit until the very end. And of course, there is just a little romance (and tension) thrown in for good measure.
I thoroughly enjoyed this less than believable, but more than entertaining story of murder and mayhem. It is a clean, fun, and easy read. The tale is not really believable, but it sure is entertaining!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAmber and Charlie are on their first real case together...and another agent is tagging along, too, to round out the experience of the team. Flynn Garrison, pop star turned geologist, is dead, and it's up to the CCIA to figure out if it was murder. Could be the wife. Could be the mysterious woman he's been hanging out with on the island. Could be the geology company he's been working for on the island, reconning the site for an Edinburgh company. Who knows, but it's a small town in Scotland, so everyone knows everyone's business, which is pretty handy for these CCIA agents who are trying to wedge in.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchasePrecious is a great follow-up to the first Amber Reed CCIA Mystery. Amber is just getting her feet wet as an agent for the Celebrity Crimes Investigation Agency, and she’s got a lot to learn. She’s paired with her boyfriend, Charlie, but things get tense when stunning agent Martha gets assigned to help them on their latest case, and shares a tiny house with them on a secluded Scottish island. Martha is perfect, and Amber is still trying to learn how to keep her cool and appear to be a professional investigator. I love the inner torment Amber goes through and how she struggles so hard to keep it all inside. Amber, Charlie, and Martha’s odd relationship makes for a lot of laughs.
The rest of the characters are interesting as well, especially the people they meet on the island. I had no idea who the killer was until the end with all of the red herrings sprinkled throughout the story. Another winner from Zanna Mackenzie!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI get all caught up in the characters in a book just like most other people do and so we judge a book on how we feel about those characters and what they’re doing. I like it when the characters learn from their mistakes and they grow and become better. So I give an author the opportunity to work that into the storyline. If the character comes across as very flawed and has deep issues that need to be worked out then hopefully that author finds a way to let that character learn and grow. I like a cozy mystery better when there’s less romance and more mystery . Other than this I really like the storyline. And I enjoyed reading the book!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is the second book in the Amber Reed CCIA series. If you have not read the first book I would recommend doing so, as you will enjoy the story more. We follow Amber Reed after she finishes her 6 month training for he CCIA (Celebrity Crime Investigation Agency). She is in a relationship with Charlie but he is also the agent in charge for the next assignment - Ambers official first case as a support officer. Sent to a Scottish Island named Farra they are trying to solve the murder of a former pop star.
I again enjoyed the story. The mystery was solid and the relationship of Charlie and Amber is tested when a pretty colleague joins them on the island and is obviously interested in Charlie. I liked the fact the insecurities of Amber were touched upon. It kept it real. The combination of crime solving and romantic tangles made me like this book.
Looking forward to the next one!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOn their first official case together, newly trained support officer Amber and her boyfriend, investigating agent Charlie, are tasked with finding the murderer of a former rock star who abandoned the limelight in favor of using his education in geology. The setting is a rugged Scottish island with friendly people and capricious weather. The case twists and turns, requiring trips to another island and back to the mainland. The tale is well written, with believable and mostly very likable characters who are not perfect but who strive to put their jobs before their personal lives. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series, and catch up on Amber and Charlie’s love life and work adventures!!
