In 31 otherwise simple writing prompts, WJ Scott brilliantly develops a wide variety of composition and storytelling skills. She ignites aspiring writers’ imaginations for creating one’s own worlds and the characters who inhabit them, all while encouraging the empathy found in discovering others’ points-of-view. She makes learning fun as a gateway to discovering the fun in writing. Though the prompts are targeted to kids, the more I thought about how teens and young adults would enjoy them, too, the more I realized how much they might appeal to any age—and even to me, who found myself wanting to pause and do each one before reading the next. She makes learning fun, which is how we discover the fun in writing at ever more mature levels. I can imagine a youngster doing some or all of these exercises, then trying them again over the years, which is part of the genius in these examples—there is no correct level, but rather the challenge in nurturing the next, wherever each participant starts. I discovered WJ Scott when I gave (meaning read first) her fantasy story “Fairy Dust” to a delighted grandniece. When my local library solicited suggestions for encouraging young writers, I recalled seeing the title on Ms. Scott’s Amazon page. What a terrific find! I highly recommend this wonderful gift for all the aspiring writers in your life—young and not-so-young.

A wonderful little book for children (and adults) to bring out their creativity. It also teaches about telling the truth, following our dreams, who or what are our enemies, and so forth.
    Well-done!

What mother can’t recall her days as a young girl, putting on a fancy dress to pretend being a beautiful young princess who uses your dolls and stuff animals as your royal subjects? You made up grandiose stories of what’s happening in your life, in the castle, and of course, what’s happening with your prince charming which you would tell your mother about.

What the author, Wendy J Scott, has done in this book is to give your daughters the basis for which you’d like to them to not only make up a story but to write their stories down so you can read them. Not only will this spark the creativity in their young imaginative minds, it will also aid in developing their writing skills at the same time.

And if your inner-child would wind up liking to relive its days as a young girl pretending to be a princess again; you can take one of the 31 writing prompts and write your own princess stories yourself.

For wanting to give mothers something they can give their daughters, and perhaps themselves, to make up stories about their pretending to be a princess and the write them down, how can I not give Ms. Scott the 5 STARS I’ve given her for this book.

Princess writing prompts is a wonderful addition to this clever series of books. There is everything a princess loving little girl will ever need from a tiara to fairies... but every princess needs her Prince. There are plenty of prompts to keep little boys happy and entertained too .. including wizards, a falcon, dogs, a coat of arms and a secret room. This book is a perfect way to engage children in stories, fun and the limitless range of their imaginations. All they need are a few prompts.
