England, 1927

After spending ten years in Australia,

Unable to forget her, Rainier crosses the channel a few months later and asks Delphi to marry him. Equally lovestruck, Delphi accepts, and she and Flora join Rainier in France.

However, their idyllic lifestyle is shattered when war breaks out and the Nazis begin to occupy the country. Forced to flee to the Free Zone in the south, the family must now pull together to resist the enemy…

Ros used to work as a head teacher, writing reports, policy documents and stories to which young children would enjoy listening. Now retired, she enjoys the more challenging activity of writing for adults.

After living in France for eleven years, Ros found much inspiration in the people and places. More recently she is living in the UK again and likes to go dog walking or ballroom dancing with her husband. Although she has been caught out once or twice it’s not usually at the same time!

Two daughters and four granddaughters also enjoy Ros’s books and support with answering questions.

The book starts from Delphi (the mother)'s perspective, it quickly transitions to Flora(daughter)'s perspective. Having gotten to know Delphi from Sisters At War, I was hoping to get more insight into her character during WWII compared to her personal experiences serving in WWI. However, Flora's story was exciting and hard to put down. I have not read much on the war from the view of the French Resistance and I feel like I would enjoy reading more.

I enjoyed this second in the series about the Strong sisters, but also finished feeling a little disappointed. I felt that there was so much more that could have been included in the story regarding the resistance work of Flora and Luca. But that said, it's first and foremost a love story, and doesn't disappoint on that level. The characters are engaging, and grow as the plot evolves, and the plot itself is believable and interesting. My thanks to Sapere Books for the opportunity to read it. I'm looking forward to the third in the series.

I do enjoy WW2 books. This was kinda long and seem to drag in the middle. It did speed up towards the end and was much better. It’s really more of a light love story than a war story. Thanks to Sapere for the opportunity to read an early copy

I was looking forward to this, my third Ros Rendle book, and it was certainly worth waiting for. The author's use of 'Parts' I found particularly good in dividing the ongoing story into individual sections. By the time I reached Part 3 I was racing through
