Rex Dalton Thrillers: Books 1-3 (The Rex Dalton Series Boxset Book 1) Kindle Edition
Life is a chain of defining moments that determine our choices, change us, and shape us. Sometimes they fly by us in a blur or a series of blurs, barely marked or remembered. But every so often, a moment comes along that is so forceful, it becomes a fulcrum that sets us on a new course. Such an event happened for Rex Dalton on March 11, 2004 at Atocha Station, Madrid, Spain.
Power of Three
Rex Dalton was sent on a mission to Afghanistan to gather information about the opium trade. His mission brief was to find out who were the key players, the trade routes, and to follow the money trail from the producers, distributors into the coffers of Taliban and other terrorist organizations.
Before long he had opened a can of worms revealing spine chilling deceit and corruption that reached into the highest hallways of power in Afghanistan, America, and Europe. His submissions to his superiors to take action to wipe out the drug stores, labs, and the drug lords, fell on deaf ears.
Eventually, the deliberate inaction and ineptness of US politicians drove Dalton to take unsanctioned action and it stirred a hornet’s nest which even he, one of the world’s most lethal assassins, might not survive.
Unchained
Rex Dalton and his new friend, the military dog, Digger escaped from Afghanistan and made their way into India where they started a new life.
Within a few weeks, Dalton had a new name, a new passport and no worries about money. He and Digger were on their way to Kapal Mochan, India, where Rex intended to dip his hand into a sacred spring. But then Digger started shifting around in the front passenger seat and looking at him as if to say, “So, when are you going to stop and give a dog a chance to go to the toilet?”

Sheila LS - Top Contributor. Can't Read This Series Fast Enough!! I had no idea these books were so good when I first started or I would not have already downloaded other Kindle Unlimited books... I haven't read any series as exciting as Ty Patterson's Warrior series until now.
You really need to start reading this series from the beginning because what happened to Rex in this first book is what made him the way he is. He is a very determined person and does not stop at anything to take down the bad guys--especially if they are terrorist or if it is a group that is funding terrorist. Even though this is his main mindset, he still wants to protect the innocent that inadvertently get in the way...
Texas - This author belongs on the same shelf as Ludlum and Follette and those other guys! My first read by this author and I couldn't put the book down! Mesmerized by the writing style, the vivid descriptions and the storylines, I read without stopping. Fast paced, action packed and interesting on several facets.
Margaret Bentley - I love reading about Rex Dalton's exploits, but my favorite character has to be Digger, his military-trained super-intelligent dog.
Greg D - Rex Dalton was the deadliest agent the government had at their disposal- a one-man unstoppable force in the war on terrorism in the Middle East. With his famous ability to pick up new languages with ease, he figures he can blend into almost any culture and root out evil. What could go wrong? Well, it turns out, plenty.
E. I. HOOD - I was not a fan of the first Rex Dalton book but plunged ahead with the second hoping JC Ryan would not disappoint. I loved it. Now here I am after reading the third book in this series. I had a hard time putting it down and found myself wondering about it when I was not reading.
40 year pioneer - Each book in this series gets even better. This has a fascinating, even though hard to fathom, plot, worked out in intricate detail. Rex Dalton is a mirror of all of us - overcoming seemingly overwhelming odds to achieve great things.
Kindle Customer - From a master storyteller comes another thrilling ride by Rex Dalton. From the sands of Afghanistan to the culture of India the story moves at a breathless pace. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.
Kindle Customer - Rex Dalton rocks! Another great read from JC Ryan. I've read all of his books and am never disappointed! All I can say is....MORE!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2024Excitement on every page. If you are not already a Rex Dalton fan this box set will get you going.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 25, 2020Book 1 is really the background story of how Rex Dalton came to be-a super-trained operative much in the vein of Jack Reacher but on a more international scale. This book is heavy with multiple plots & a bit sparse on details. But as you get into the 2nd & 3rd books, the character development & plot details improve significantly, making them great reads. I'd give book 3 stars but books 2 & 3, five stars each.
Rex is a one man phenomenon who takes on terrorists, drug dealers in Afghanistan with ties to US protectors, to rescuing women in a Saudi Arabia harem who were taken against their will. Twists & turns galore! I'm looking forward to the rest of this series as Rex also adjusts from dog-hater to reluctant dog owner of the impressively trained Digger by his side.
Thanks JC Ryan for what looks to be a terrific series of novels you can't put down.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2019An excellent series that starts with a horrific and in this age of terrorist organizations, believable bombing of a Spanish train station. Rex Dalton life’s decisions from this point on will change his and the worlds history. After months of losing himself in alcohol to numb his pain from the killing of his entire family, Rex decides take enlist into the Marines. His one wish is to kill as many terrorists as he can. As his training is observed by his superiors, they notice his determination to be the most accomplished in any situation that he is placed into. Rex already had skills in martial arts that he started as a teenager. The marine corp training and discipline only enhances what he already knows. The Army next takes an interest and Rex is passed through another training program. Finally, Rex is given a choice for another training program, though this one will be top secret. The story of how Rex could have been recruited and trained in the spy field may happen more than we know. Government sanctioned secret agencies have been hinted at many times. So overall, a believable story.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2022If you were expecting a thriller with lots of action you will find it in this collection. You will also find no romance to get in the way but you will find intrigue and much more humanity than you would usually expect from this genre. This is a modern day knight in shining armor. Well worth the read for all ages and definitely movie material.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 10, 2021These three books are a great read, interesting and very entertaining. The development of Rex is very well handled. Now Digger is something else. He is a hand full that makes any dog owner wonder. The things Digger can do are better than a human character. Digger is a character that really makes you think. Very character in the book are well place and developed. The story lines all have good flow that keep you interested and wanting more. Read and enjoy.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 5, 2019A unique pairing of a covert operator with his own moral values and a skilled military trained dog he committed to care for despite his reluctance. Betrayed, he extracts some local justice and then while plotting to find and reveal the traitors can’t help but get involved in helping others with the assistance of Digger his reluctant charge who becomes his most trusted companion and teammate. Solid series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 19, 2023Rex Dalton reads much like a good Western. Strong male protagonist dealing violence and death on the bad guys, helped by other brave and violent men, but strangely gentle and generous to those wronged. JC Ryan focuses attention and skill in developing his characters. Jack Dalton evolves from losing his family to terrorism to becoming a lone wolf terrorist hunter.
As in other JC Ryan novels, you will enjoy the (bumpy) ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Man and his Dawg !!
I read books 1 to 3 whilst on holiday and they gave me lots of hours of enjoyable reading. I read about 200 books a year BUT these 3 were amongst the best in the last 10 years.
I realise that REX is a bit of a superhero - BUT the action and the plot are great. The introduction of DIGGER is a mster move and it's quite obvious that J C Ryan is very much a dog lover !! Bit like reading about a "RAMBO FLUKE" !!
